Compact but cosy, this central apartment is a great base for exploring Lisbon. The balcony is a sweet bonus – not to mention the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastel de nata before setting off. Since it's on the third floor without a lift, this home won't suit guests who struggle with stairs. One bedroom is smaller than the other – it's a good option for kids – and the kitchen lacks an oven, so dining out will likely be on the cards. Even so, you've got a wealth of options nearby, plus you're walking distance from attractions like Praça do Comércio (twenty minutes away), Santa Justa Lift (fifteen minutes) and the Tram 28.

Dias de Amor

Situated on the bustling Rua Augusta, a minute’s walk from the Augusta Arch and the grand Praça do Comércio, a stay in Lisbon doesn’t get more central than this. Mornings begin with a stroll along the riverfront after picking up a coffee and a pastry from Martinho da Arcada, the oldest cafe in the city. If sightseeing is on the agenda, stroll over to the Lisbon Cathedral, Carmo Convent and Santa Justa Elevator, each within ten minutes of your doorstep. 

Inside, an inviting living space with warm mustard yellow and orange tones is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine at the end of a busy day. Curl up on the L-shaped couch with a good book until it’s time to cook dinner – the fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for rustling up something tasty. And when it’s time to call it a night, watch twilight fall over the terracotta rooftops from your private balcony before curling up in comfortable beds.

Marmelada

Less than a five-minute stroll away from Praça do Comércio, Lisbon Cathedral and the River Tagus, this apartment is perfectly placed for exploring. Stroll down Rua Augusta with a coffee and pastry, pop in and out of the independent shops nearby or grab a bite to eat at the array of restaurants on your doorstep. Whatever you fancy – be it historical monuments or lively bars – chances are, it's within walking distance. When you're not taking advantage of this central spot, unwind back at home with a glass of wine and music playing on the Bluetooth speaker. Set within a renovated Pombaline style building, the host's have expertly merged original features with modern design, creating a trendy and clean living space with mid-century furniture, a laid-back natural colour scheme and heaps of natural lights. Our favourite feature has to be the Juliet balconies on the windows – fling open the doors and admire the views of Lisbon's hills and charming streets below.

Hipster 'Stache

Set in the prestigious Marques de Pombal district, known for its eclectic eateries, luxury boutiques, and good connections to the old town, the location of this bolthole is hard to beat. The interiors are stylish, and both bedrooms are as light-filled as the next. There’s a workstation in a quiet nook if you plan to work or study during your trip. And wait until you see the private terrace outside – a fine spot for coffees and pastel de natas, evening sundowners, and everything else in between.

Vintage Reverie

Humbug has the iconic Gulbenkian Park right on its doorstep – a must-see for art and nature lovers alike. The surrounding streets are wide and calm making it a lovely area to explore away from the chaos of the city – it becomes quite quiet in the evenings and on weekends. This two bedroomed flat is bright and clean with beautiful high ceilings and views of greenery from the windows which look onto the Gulbenkian gardens.

Humbug

Peering over the historical Praça da Figueira, this family-size penthouse welcomes you to unwind and explore this beautiful city in style. Housed in a century-old building, the refurbished apartment is modern and comfortable with a calming blue colour palette running throughout and appealing artwork adorning the walls. It's bright and open, thanks to the tall balcony doors that wrap around the cosy living space, inviting the natural sunlight to illuminate this gorgeous home. Just outside, the cultural delights of Chiado, Carmo Convent and Rua Augusta await.  

Perch by the living room’s Juliet balconies with your morning coffee as you watch the hustle and bustle of Baixa life below, or gather together at the elegant dining table for an evening banquet while the city lights twinkle just outside. We love the decorative details – from the intricate fireplace to the azulejo wallpaper, dazzling chandelier, and beautiful blue-coloured velvet sofa. The bedrooms are just as light, with dedicated desk spaces for those visiting on business, and there's even a swanky freestanding tub to soak in at the end of a long day spent sightseeing. 

Back to Baixa

With a palatial façade, stunning minimalist interiors, and proximity to the poshest shopping street in Lisbon, Nova Inspirada packs quite a punch. But don't be fooled by the central location – this home is tucked away on a quiet street where you can relax on any of your many terraces, which includes the communal atrium. We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history. 

Nova Inspirada

Look in any direction at this home and you’ll have the Tejo river or São Vicente de Fora waiting for you in all their beauty. The terraces here are practically private viewpoints where you can bask in the sun and admire the entire city – enjoy a meal at the picnic-style table or lounge on the Adirondacks (which double as a spectacular sunset spot). Honestly, in a city known for its miradouros, (meaning viewpoints in Portuguese), it’s possible that you might not find a better one than your own personal terrace. Inside, there's another kind of grandeur with marble floors and fireplaces, rattan bedroom walls and terracotta floor tiles creating an elegant, shabby chic vibe to the penthouse. And lest we forget to mention, you’ll be staying within the walls of Castelo São Jorge. Discover the historic heart of the city, where you can explore many of the cities’ churches and sights on foot along with local seafood restaurants, Portuguese cafes and traditional Fado houses. 

Seafarer Terrace

As we walked past this apartment's hidden, shared courtyard oasis, we knew we had found something special. But that's nothing compared to the communal roof terrace with views over the city and glimpses of the River Tagus. It's a fantastic place to gather at sunset with your loved ones when the golden hour bathes Lisbon in a magical light.

Inside this home, plants and modern artwork create a homely vibe. Open the French doors to the Juliet balcony and let the warm, fresh air in. We love the marble bathroom here – very glam.

The area is a winner too. Tram 25, which takes you to the centre, is just down from the building, so getting around is simple. Time Out Market, with its twenty restaurants and stylish music venue bars, as well as shops and market vendors selling fresh food and flowers, is only a four-minute walk away. For art and history lovers, the National Museum of Contemporary Art is a twelve-minute stroll, while Lisbon Cathedral is twenty-two minutes on foot.



The Golden Hours

Located next door to the historic Rossio Square and providing a view of the Column of Pedro IV from the balcony, this apartment will put you right in the heart of the action in Lisbon. Here, you'll be within easy reach of the Carmo Convent, as well as a short stroll from the city’s historic harbour. The apartment is unique in its décor, with classy furniture and décor combined together with modern artwork and contemporary lighting to make it feel quaint yet trendy. There’s even a little leafy courtyard here, where you can sip your morning coffee while listening to the city wake up around you.

The Beat

As soon as you step through the door of this contemporary apartment of lofty proportions there’s a soothing atmosphere. Designed with Scandinavian influences in mind, it’s a light-filled home that makes for a great Lisbon base. There’s plenty of space to socialise – whether it’s cooking in the kitchen, hosting a glamourous dinner party in the separate dining room, or curling up on the sofa (or those cushy window seats) at the end of a busy day. We particularly love how spacious the bedrooms feel with outdoor balconies to let the fresh air flow through. Those looking to combine work and play will appreciate the dedicated desk area and there's plenty of space to unpack if you're staying in the city for a longer spell. Located in a charming and surprisingly quiet pocket of Lisbon, you’ll find lots of gourmet restaurants and high-end shops a few steps away, including El Corte Inglés shopping mall located just next door. Or for some culture, head to the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum with its beautiful gardens, a mere five minutes away on foot. And with the metro station (São Sebastião) a three-minute walk away, there’s no corner or stone of this captivating city to be left unturned.

Make a Face

Perched up high in the narrow unmistakably Lisboeta streets of Bairro Alto lays this breezy modern apartment, perfect for an authentic encounter with Portugal’s capital. Inside, an open-plan kitchen-living area serves as the entertainment hub of the home. Throw together some knockout Iberian finger food in the well-appointed kitchen as the rest of your clan take to the impressively lengthy modular couch. The double-height ceilings in the lounge coupled with an impressive cinema projector transforms the space into your own private theatre for cosy nights in. When it’s time to take to the white cobbled pavements, you couldn’t be better primed. The charming Number 28 tram can be caught from the end of your street and will take you on a whistle-stop tour of some of Lisbon’s prettiest landmarks. You’ll reach São Jorge castle in no more than fifteen minutes and the cathedral in ten. After a full day of exploring, return back to your locale for a hive of restaurants and bars that come alive in the evenings.
