It’s hard to choose our favourite feature here – from the living room’s curved bubble sofa to the leaf-print walls and the grand dining table with its jewel-tone velvet seats, there’s an air of modern sophistication here that reflects the city’s eclecticism. Ample natural light pours in through the living area’s arched French doors that give way to pretty Juliet balconies with views of the street below. Perch here with your evening glass of Portuguese wine when you’re not out sampling Pink Street’s famous nightlife, and end the night with a deliciously comfortable sleep in the blue and green bedrooms. Factor in the pair of bathrooms with their relaxing rainfall showers, and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, discover Pink Street’s many bars and eateries nearby, or make a beeline for Praça do Comércio, a ten-minute walk away. You’re also a six-minute stroll from the popular Time Out Market, a ten-minute walk from the Santa Justa Lift, and the Alfama district is twenty minutes away on foot. Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Freshly renovated, this beautiful apartment is the kind of Lisbon home we daydream about. In a period building typical of this ancient part of the city, it's been lovingly brought into the 21st century by owners who clearly care about the quality of the finish. The characteristic Pombalina wooden cage of the stone building shows itself in the open-plan living space. Invented after the great earthquake of the 1750s, it's an architectural structure to ensure stability. It also happens to look really cool. You may also spot some other historic features in the home – an old salting trough in one of the bathrooms, a huge stone fireplace in a bedroom and antique recovered tiles made into large panels that adorn the corridors. At the same time, it's a smart, modern home with luxurious furnishings, and an on-trend black and marble kitchen. We love the views over Lisbon's rooftops from the balcony too. When you're ready to explore you'll be a five-minute walk to Praça do Comércio, which opens up to the Tagus river. The stylish neighbourhood of Chiado is a ten-minute walk away, as are the Ribeira Market and Campo das Cebolas.

While there’s a well-appointed kitchen at your disposal, we recommend hanging up your chef’s apron and sampling the excellent selection of bars, restaurants and tascas right on your doorstep. 

If sightseeing is on the itinerary, begin with the Carmo Convent, just a short walk away, before moseying to Praça do Comércio for views of the Tagus River. Head east to Alfama, stopping at the Lisbon Cathedral, then weave through the higgledy-piggledy cobblestone streets to the Portas do Sol viewpoint to watch the sun set behind the terracotta rooftops.

This stylish apartment sits atop the highest hill in Lisbon. Thanks to the hardwood floors, stone wall, small balconies and large windows that fill the space with light, there's a cosy vibe here that will make you feel right at home. Oh, and did we mention the view? Just step out onto the balcony and you'll see the sparkling river in the distance. There's a fully-stocked kitchen that makes cooking a breeze, and your hosts are also more than happy to arrange exciting extras like breakfast delivery, home massages, surf lessons, a cruise on the Tagus and even helicopter rides. Though you're a bit far from Praça do Comércio and the city centre (it's a fifteen-minute bus ride), staying in Graça is worth it. You'll find colourful houses, local restaurants making traditional Portuguese fare and independent shops nestled amongst the cobblestone alleyways. Not to mention this area has some of the best viewpoints in Lisbon – we suggest Miradouro da Graça, which is a fifteen-minute walk away.

Summing up this historic part of Lisbon perfectly, it's in a typical Pombalina building – freshly renovated with impeccable attention to detail. Located right in front of Praça da Figueira with views of the square from its Juliet balcony, this apartment puts you in a wonderfully central spot from which to explore Lisbon’s sights. The decor is a pêle-mêle of styles that won’t be to everyone’s taste. And the great locale means street noise is to be expected. However, the interconnecting bedrooms make this spot a good choice for families, as well as those looking to spend their days visiting the myriad cultural hotspots within easy walking distance.

This laid-back home in Chiado is perfect for those looking to be in the heart of Lisbon’s action. Surrounded by some of the city’s best sights, this unpresumptuous home allows its open spaces and huge windows do the talking, with a minimalist design aesthetic that feels as chic as it does calm. We love the living room’s tall corniced ceilings and the large shuttered windows that make the whole space feel bright. The kitchen, too, is a masterclass in elegant simplicity, concentrating on natural textures – a marble countertop and hardwood floors – and featuring a long table that just begs to be gathered around for morning and evening feasts. The two pared-back bedrooms complete the home, along with an azulejo adorned bathroom that gives the apartment a touch of Portuguese traditionalism. Away from the apartment, you’re just a seven-minute walk from the bustling Time Out food market, a fifteen-minute walk from Praça do Comércio and a twenty-five-minute stroll from São Jorge Castle. Bairro Alto is also right around the corner, five minutes away, with its bohemian cobbled streets packed with hip boutiques, quirky bars and intimate fado bars.

Where do we start with this stylish home – let's begin with the location. This apartment has a fabulous address – walk to Rossio Square, also known as King Pedro IV Square, in just three minutes. Even closer is the Dona Maria II National Theatre, a two-minute saunter, while the Santa Justa Elevator is five minutes on foot. St. George's Castle, which you also have glimpses of from this home, is a twenty-minute stroll.

Back at this apartment, relax on the sofa and take in the vistas of Downtown Lisbon. We love the herringbone-patterned wood floors and chic black and white prints in the living space. Rustle up a cozido à Portuguesa in the modern kitchen if you don't feel like eating out. This place is the ideal bolthole for two couples, a family or business professionals.



King Pedro

This home feels comfortable, high-end, and characterful. It’s hard to ask for more, but we picked it apart and here’s what we found. The Handhake's baren bones are great – this home is located inside a renovated Baixa townhouse, which has high ceilings and French windows as standard, but the host didn’t rely solely on that. There are a few nice pieces of art in here, notably the statuettes and the mirrors in the bedroom, which give it a modern look.

Set on a quiet street lined with typical Portuguese buildings, it's easy to forget you're so close to the bustling centre and waterfront of Lisbon. It's an excellent choice for culture seekers after a practical pad that doesn't compromise on style, with convenience and modern comfort in mind. 

The flat is decorated in a charming Lisbon style, combining natural materials, homespun furnishings and a splash of warm colours to create a stylish home. The bedroom is kept minimal with crisp white linens and pretty prints adorning the walls, so you'll have no trouble getting a good night's sleep here. There's a sleek kitchen with traditional azulejo tiles and a bright dining space for inviting guests over and feasting together. Natural light bounces off the wood floors, creating a cool living space to rest weary legs and unwind with a glass of Rioja. 

Outside, you'll find you're right in the thick of things, with lively Praça do Comércio on your doorstep (three minutes walk), plenty of trendy restaurants and hip bars nearby, and the Sé de Lisboa only a five-minute stroll away. If you can't decide on a dinner option one night, we recommend you try the Time Out Food Market, less than fifteen minutes away on foot from your front door.

A big terrace in Alfama is quite a rarity – especially as it's almost as big as the interior, and a great place to spend a sunny afternoon. Although the insides of Saint George's Terrace are an open-plan arrangement, we liked the natural light and the big, lioz-clad bathroom. From here, the riverside and Praça do Comércio are easily accessible on foot, which makes this home a great base for urban exploration.

If browsing stylish boutiques is your bag, then this home in chic Chiado is just the ticket. You'll also find stylish restaurants, and the iconic 1700s Bertrand Bookstore here. It's just a two-minute stroll to Praça Luís de Camões with its statues of Portuguese literary icons, while the National Theatre of São Carlos is five minutes on foot. Other attractions nearby include Lisbon Cathedral, under a twenty-minute walk and the Elevador De Santa Justa, a ten-minute saunter.

Back at this lovely apartment, take in the fabulous views over the River Tagus with a glass of rosé wine – we love the traditional tiles here too. Inside, an array of plants give this place a homely feel. Enjoy a pastel de nata at the dining table or relax on the comfy grey sofa after all that sightseeing. This home is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a sophisticated setting.

In the heart of Lisbon’s historic centre, this apartment is a five-minute walk to the waterside Praça do Comércio lined with shops and restaurants on the River Tagus. Winding, cobbled streets packed with bars and restaurants lead from the apartment to Castelo de S. Jorge on the hilltop, a ten-minute walk away. True to its historic surroundings, this home retains some original features of the traditional Pombaline building it’s housed in. A wooden frame from the post-earthquake reconstruction of 1755 juts out into the living room. Bold black and gold artwork has been hand-picked to complement the wooden structure. Waking up in the master bedroom is a real treat as sunlight streams through French windows, which can be opened up to create a Juliet balcony.

Mornings begin with a stroll along the riverfront after picking up a coffee and a pastry from Martinho da Arcada, the oldest cafe in the city. If sightseeing is on the agenda, stroll over to the Lisbon Cathedral, Carmo Convent and Santa Justa Elevator, each within ten minutes of your doorstep. 

Inside, an inviting living space with warm mustard yellow and orange tones is the perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine at the end of a busy day. Curl up on the L-shaped couch with a good book until it’s time to cook dinner – the fully-equipped kitchen has everything you need for rustling up something tasty. Although it's nestled in the heart of beautiful Bairro Alto, the surrounding narrow streets have a quiet and distinctly village-like feel where locals know each other and the streets are filled with coffee shops, concept stores, restaurants and art galleries. By night, it's a whole other story – the neighbourhood fills with people and the streets become outdoor extensions of the many bars in the area. Your home will be a lovely peaceful spot that’s still near all the action – trendy Chiado is just an eight-minute walk away. Our favourite spot of the apartment has got to be the southwest-facing balcony – it’s narrow but long, and offers up incredible views of the River Tagus and the 25th April Bridge at sunset. Bring your evening aperitif outside as you watch the sky’s colours change, or enjoy your morning coffees out here as day settles over the city. The inside of the house is extremely welcoming – there’s a large marble dining table for meals all together and a bright, stylish living room that’s been dynamically designed. At the end of a long day, wash up in the roomy bathrooms before settling in the bedrooms, where you’ll rest easy in anticipation of another beautiful Lisbon day tomorrow.

Here is an excellent base from which to explore Lisbon. You couldn’t be better placed. Right in the heart of Santos, where the trendiest of cafes and restaurants can be found. Stroll to Lisbon’s most popular historical sights. Or walk for ten minutes to catch the metro from Cais do Sodré station. Trains venture beyond the city from here too. 

This home is a clean and simple affair, with some pleasing attention to detail. The trendy wallpaper in the bedroom, for instance, adds a certain edge. As does the striking use of granite in the bathroom. Midcentury-style touches in the living area make it a home. Open up the tall glass sliding doors and let the city views in as you drink your morning coffee.

Close enough to the action to feel buzzy and vibrant, yet just far enough out of the touristic centre to ensure an authentic experience. This cosy and classic apartment is filled with traditional touches such as colourful tiled floors, a light-filled living room that's perfect for putting your feet up and a compact kitchen that can handle anything you care to throw at it. In addition, the views out over Palácio de São Bento, home of the Portuguese parliament, provide a real sense of place. While most visitors flock to Alfama and pack out the bars of Bairro Alto, we'd suggest that it's Príncipe Real that is on the up. Walk 500m to the lush Jardim do Príncipe Real. Here, locals gather to sit and sip coffee, play chess and gossip – it's a genuine slice of Lisbon life. But there's a lot more going on here than bica (espresso) and board games. The neighbourhood is a haven for foodies too. Right by the park, you'll find celebrated A Cevicheria, where diners gather to indulge in flawlessly executed small plate seafood. At the same time, Atalho Real serves sumptuous steaks in a laid-back atmosphere. And the fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down – local fave Pavilhão Chinês serves up inventive cocktails in an old grocery store packed out with antiques.

If you're ready to experience the oldest and most authentic neighbourhood in Lisbon, this could be just the place for you. Set on a typically narrow street, lined with historic buildings, it's a traditional second-floor home with a very special secret. This city centre apartment comes with outside space in the form of a large patio with a central orange tree – and yes, you can help yourself to fruit in season.

Spend your days roaming the ancient streets and exploring the sights (you're never far from a Fado restaurant here) and come home to cook for the whole gang in the bright, open-plan living room, before padding out to the patio to eat together as the sun sets. Inside, it's a stylish mix of modern minimalism and country comfort. All-white walls and wood floors keep everything cool, while period touches like Juliet balconies and shuttered windows add elegance.

There's room for a large group, with one bedroom boasting a huge walk-in dressing room, and we think it's a delightful neighbourhood. With loads going on nearby, and plenty of good restaurants within a short walk, you may not want to go far, but there are excellent transport links if you do.

Rua de São Nicolau is within walking distance to all the central sights, restaurants, and cafes – but the central location does translate to a vibrant atmosphere that won't suit those who are looking for a tranquil stay. Our favourite hangout spot in this home is the balcony, which is great for a morning coffee, but even on rainy days, the living room gets great natural light. We also loved the eclectic design that mixes the old and new.

Settle into this luxuriously appointed one-bedroom apartment, situated with an immaculately renovated 18th-century building, right in the heart of Lisbon's Baixa-Chaido district.

With stunning antique pieces, vintage Persian-style rugs and plenty of eye-catching art adorning the walls, the apartment does a splendid job of blending old and new to create something totally unique. An open layout kitchen and living room contribute to the feeling of space provided by the generous floorplan, while elegant arched windows allow in plenty of morning light thanks to their east-facing orientation. Finally, a grand yet compact dining room sits just off the main living space, with stunning exotic wood furniture and a mirrored wall to maximise the feeling of space.

When your apartment is under ten minutes from Alfama, you might think it would be hard to compete with such striking surroundings. Speaking of which, it’s a four-minute wander to the Sé de Lisboa, six to the waterfront restaurants of Praça do Comércio, and only ten to the hilltop vantage point of the Castelo de S. Jorge. While iconic sights are all around, the historic features of this home also make a lasting impression. In this restored Pombaline building, its stone nooks and wooden earthquake supports date back to the 1755 reparations. As a reminder of the area’s fascinating history, the interiors still display some of these original elements. Despite this, you’ll find fresh, sophisticated, and modern updates to the decor. Painting the gaiola pombalina timber in a bright white is a touch of genius, plus we love the sleek, matte-charcoal kitchen and the lemon-yellow sofa in the lounge. With contemporary art pieces adorning the walls, this creative home has been kitted out for the 21st century. But when you’re not busy admiring what’s on offer inside, we recommend heading to the windows with a chilled glass of vinho verde. From up here on the sixth floor, the views are simply astounding.
