High ceilings, modern furnishings and a calming colour palette characterise the home, juxtaposing with the traditional tiled facade.

Make sure you sample the restaurant scene in the area during your stay. Seafood is the speciality here, and you can enjoy your mussels or cod knowing they've been freshly plucked from the sea earlier that same day. There are plenty of shops and supermarkets nearby, too, if you prefer to do the cooking yourself.

Situated right where the River Douro meets the Atlantic Ocean, this stylish apartment offers spectacular views and plenty of living space. Two balconies grant you the opportunity to relax in the sun – the one off the main bedroom is perfect for morning cups of coffee, while the downstairs balcony is ideal for cocktails as the evening draws to a close. Floor-to-ceiling windows show off the scenery all day long, a sleek kitchen makes rustling up meals a breeze and a cosy sofa is a perfect spot to kick back and relax after a busy day exploring. Our favourite room is the main bedroom. As well as the private balcony, it has all the bells and whistles you'd want – blackout blinds, built-in Bluetooth speakers and a lavish rainfall shower in the en-suite. 

When you're ready to explore, both the 1 and 18 trams run right past the home, so you'll have no problem getting to and from Porto's bustling city centre. That said, Foz do Douro isn't lacking in activities, either. Sprawl out on the miles of sandy beaches (Praia das Pastoras is a fifteen-minute walk away), grab dinner and drinks at one of the waterfront restaurants or just stroll along the river, admiring the many landmarks, lighthouses and sculptures representing Portugal's rich history.

This home is centrally located, so you’ll be able to easily explore on foot and by using the metro. You’re within easy walking distance of Casa da Música, ideal if you’re planning on catching a show during your stay.

This place caught our eye for its waterfront location. Situated on the banks of the Douro River in Porto, Portugal’s second biggest city, you’re perfectly placed to enjoy relaxing walks along the riverside. The surrounding area is steeped in history with narrow, cobbled streets, merchants’ houses and iconic bridges, and the city centre is just 2km away. You’ll have access to a shared swimming pool that’s open all year round, as well as a shared garden and a restaurant. Most of the apartments offer river views but as your host operates several apartments here, the exact view may differ from the photos.

Found in one of the oldest residential buildings in Porto, this apartment might not look 200 years old thanks to modernisation, but it remains historic. Now updated to house families itching to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City, it's comfortable – though the two bedrooms with the sloped ceilings might be better for kids – and bright with a fantastic location. Located only a few minutes from the Clérigos Tower, On The Lookout's rooftop terrace offers a rival view to the Cathedral and downtown architecture. The insides of this home are equally impressive, with a welcoming communal area all dressed in wood. Ribeira is one of Porto’s most charming and typical neighbourhoods, and this apartment blends right in. Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

To find a home this pretty and right in the beating heart of Porto, well, that’s special. But to bag a place with an all-too-rare outdoor terrace too? Then you’re onto a winner.

Inside, while this apartment is studio living, we think it’s expertly formed and feels surprisingly spacious. The designers knew what they were doing here, with earthy textures, warm wooden hues, and pops of botanical greens fusing beautifully.

Over in the made-for-action kitchen, there’s everything you could need to rustle up a bite to eat. And don’t get us started on the bedroom area with charming views over the terrace to the lofty palm trees and blue skies beyond.

From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. The open-plan living space is perfectly proportioned, with enough room for entertaining your loved ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

This is a bright home with a pleasant atmosphere and plenty of spots to hang out and relax. The design is heavily focused on functionality rather than aesthetics, but the simplicity works well with the open layout. From here, you'll have easy access to the central sights and the walk down to the riverside is filled with great bars and restaurants where you can refuel.

Porto is a city perhaps best known for the fortified wine that borrows its name, so it only feels appropriate that this large apartment in the downtown area of the city feels like it has been designed for gathering people together. 

The space revolves around an open kitchen-dining area that looks like the trendiest restaurant in town. Here, guests can get stuck in and whip up tasty dishes, or alternatively watch the action from a seat at the large island. If you’d prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there's the option of hiring a private chef at this address who can take care of mealtimes. Once dinner is piping hot and ready to serve, there's a huge dining table to seat the whole party and spend long evenings around. 

If you ever fancy a breath of fresh air at any point, there's a balcony with a pleasant view of the street below. Outside, Bolhão market is only a five-minute walk away when you want to pick up some fresh, local ingredients, while Bolsa Palace can be reached in just over fifteen if you're in the mood for some culture. We had to break from doing some serious shopping to tell you about this Porto gem. This elegant apartment, housed in a recently renovated 20th-century building, is located right in the heart of the pedestrianised retail hub of Rua Santa Catarina. For fresh produce and a vibrant atmosphere, head to Mercado do Bolhão, a three-minute walk away. It's not all about shopping, though – the Chapel of Souls is a two-minute walk away, where you'll discover its beautiful azulejo tiled façade. Or take a break in the Café Majestic, a beautiful Art Nouveau café, a five-minute walk from this home. A little further, Porto Cathedral is fourteen minutes on foot. Then stop off at the small port wine shop opposite this home and take some back to this apartment.

Inside, there are furnishings from Portuguese designers and artists. Lots of large windows allow light to flood in. We adore the spacious open plan living space with its two French doors, which open onto a small balustraded balcony overlooking the street. Off the bedroom, there's a secluded terrace too, perfect for a coffee or glass of Port. Later, chill out on the mezzanine level or have a game of chess. There's plenty of room for a family or friends to spread out here. If you prefer to eat in, whip up a bacalhau à Gomes (cod casserole) in the modern kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table. Honestly, though, you probably won't be spending that much time indoors with so much on your doorstep.

We love the enticing space with oak floors, wood beams, and exposed stone walls which make the design feel reassuringly rustic, and yet the contemporary decor adds plenty of modern comforts. Set on the elegant Rua das Flores, this gorgeous two-bedroom flat offers you the perfect base to explore central Porto. Located up on the fourth floor, you'll enjoy breathtaking vistas over the neighbourhood rooftops towards Porto's Romanesque cathedral.

Inside, the main open-plan living space offers more than enough space for four to unwind, dine and socialise in comfort. A large corner sofa is set right by the French doors. On warm days, you can open them up to the outside world and let the city atmosphere float in on the breeze. Elsewhere, there's a four-seater dining table and a well-equipped kitchenette.

Both bedrooms are decorated in similarly neutral tones, with ample storage so you can unpack your bags and settle right in. The main bedroom elevates its offering with an en-suite shower room and Juliette balcony that lets in plenty of natural light.

Down at street level, the pedestrianised Rua das Flores is lined with traditional restaurants and independent shops that occupy the ground floor of historic buildings adorned with azulejo tiles and ornate wrought-iron balconies. Not only does it place you right in the heart of action, but you're also close to some of Porto's most majestic sights, including Sé do Porto and the Palácio da Bolsa – both no more than a five-minute walk – and the waterside Cais da Ribeira, a ten-minute stroll away.


Empire of the Sun

Craving sandy, salty days spent under the sun? You’ll be just two minutes from Praia de Carneiro with its beautiful lighthouse and four minutes from sandy stretches at Praia Ingleses. Along the coast, there’s a promenade perfect for long walks or holiday jogs. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars in this neighbourhood for dining on fresh seafood after a long day, and the city centre is best reached by bus (the ride averages around forty minutes) or by car (around fifteen minutes). Inside the home, you’ll find a row of windows in the living room that open to sea views and fresh air, bringing a beachy atmosphere into the modern, stylish space. The open-plan living area beams with natural light illuminating the light wood parquet floors and furniture, creating a breezy atmosphere for unwinding. The master bedroom features sea views too (and an en-suite). If you are looking to explore the delights of the Portuguese coast, you really couldn’t ask for much more.

Leeward Waters

With its feet right in the sand, this crisp and modern apartment is as close to the beach as you can get. Windows perfectly frame the Atlantic – morning espressos accompany views of gentle white rollers – and at supper, the sun drops into the ocean right before your eyes at the strategically placed dining table. The interior takes inspiration from its surroundings – it’s all natural textures, splashes of cobalt blue, pale ochre and cream. We were particularly fond of the Crittall-style partition and plaster effect walls, adding an urban edge to the laidback design. After long lie-ins and lazy breakfasts, step outside and you’re a mere 180 metres from the seashore. Praia do Carneiro comes alive in the summer with fishermen lining the jetty and locals strolling the promenade. But it’s a dramatic affair when it’s stormy, with huge waves crashing over the lighthouse. Bars, restaurants, cafes and the Mercado da Foz – selling traditional Porto fare – cluster around Foz do Douro, a five-minute walk away. Plus, the bohemian Porto with its medieval Ribeira district and sumptuous wine is reached in ten minutes by car. 

Home Waters

Try a slice of Porto life at this immaculately presented studio apartment, standing proud along one of the city’s oldest streets. Housed in a period building once home to 18th Century bourgeoisie society, the picture windows and ornate balcony that wraps the length of this home remain to tell of its deep history. And though it’s a studio space, we think it’s beautifully formed and full of charm. Ideally suited for a romantic break for two or a single traveller, there’s a cosy nook for your morning breakfast and a well-kitted-out kitchen area for rustling up a light meal. Though let’s face it, in the land of smoked cheese, cured meats, Atlantic-caught seafood, and Pastel de Nata, we suspect you’ll be dining out, a lot. And you won’t have far to go to find all the delicacies, or indeed must-see sights, of the city. You’re just five minutes from some of the city’s most happening bars and restaurants and a twenty-minute stroll from the Duoro River. The famous Livraria Lello, where Harry Potter was born is just around the corner. So is the Clérigos Tower viewpoint – the perfect spot to admire this picture-postcard pretty city.

Uptown Rock

Relax on your private, spacious balcony with a glass of Port when you stay at this stylish home in Porto. We love the garden views from here. Inside, lots of glazing allows light to flood in. The chic living space has warm wooden floors and mid-century style furniture. Rustle up a Porto staple, the substantial francesinha sandwich in the modern kitchen. Or there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on your doorstep if you don't fancy cooking. 

There are many attractions nearby too. Head to Livraria Lello, one of the world's most beautiful bookstores, under a fifteen-minute stroll away. Porto Cathedral and Bolhão Market are both a twenty-five-minute walk. Or, lovers of sculpture can visit the Soares dos Reis National Museum, eight minutes on foot.


White Camellias

With stunning Douro River views, the equal of those from the nearby Miradouro da Vitória, this historic building offers up the perfect Porto apartment for your time in the city.

Douro Dreaming

Right in the heart of the city, this central apartment is ideally suited for those looking to visit the top sights and cultural attractions. Due to the location, there's potential for noise here. Light sleepers may want to pack earplugs. You're right by Ribeira, with the waterfront's restaurants, bars and cafes just a short walk away. There's limited living space and the kitchen is only suitable for preparing light bites, but it's a good pick for solo travellers or couples. You'll notice the colourful decor that creates a welcoming home, while the exposed stone is a nice touch. Open up the shutters and invite the sounds of Porto into the apartment, as you relax after a busy day of sightseeing.

Located right next to Jardim das Virtudes and near the iconic Clérigos Tower, this stylish studio apartment gives guests the convenience of being able to walk out to see Porto's attractions with ease.
