Steps from the apartment is the riverfront, where Porto’s famous wine cellars line the banks, and walking the narrow streets of the neighbourhood you’ll find delights like Palacio Bolta three minutes away, and Mercado Ferreira Borges five minutes on foot. The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Wooden shutters add a touch of tradition, and the darkwood dressers and artfully faded Moroccan rugs are in keeping with the building’s history. Hardwood floors lead from the living room, to the compact kitchen in an alcove and through to the bright bedroom where the exposed stone and big sash window motif continues.

From its enviable position in the centre of Porto, this stylish yet functional apartment is an excellent choice for families and groups of friends alike. The open-plan living space is perfectly proportioned, with enough room for entertaining your loved ones or enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of coffee. We had a particular soft spot for the individually designed bedrooms and we loved the kitchen’s handy serving hatch.

When you’re ready to explore your surroundings. Begin with a trip to Porto Cathedral, just a short walk from your building. Or why not head down to the water? Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. The small inner courtyard is a nice touch for sundowners, and there’s plenty of space to spill out around the dining table for lazy breakfasts of pastel de natas picked up from the nearby bakeries.

On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

This home nearly feels like staying on a boat – what with the large French doors opening directly onto the Douro River. Whether you’re sat on the sofa or enjoying a coffee at the dining table, you’ll have sweeping views of the water and the city. The windows’ second benefit is the sheer amount of light the living space gets, bathing the tasteful furniture in the warm sun. We could spend hours with a book in the armchair, taking in the sea air as the day grows to a peak. But of course, this central location leaves much to be explored. We love the views over the River Douro and Porto from this home's terrace. You can enjoy the vistas from inside too, where you'll also find stylish interiors with wooden floors, whitewashed beams and a log burner. This home is situated right in the hub of the Port industry. There are plenty of wine cellars offering tours and tastings, such as Fonseca Port Wine Cellars and Caves Cálem within a short walk. For a bird's eye view of the city, head to the nearby Gaia Cable Car, or the stunning Porto Cathedral is a quick drive away.

This minimalist home is in the heart of Porto, just a fifteen-minute walk from the narrow, bar-filled streets of Ribeira and the grand Avenida dos Aliados. Bedrooms are housed in thick white stone walls typical of Portuguese design, keeping things cool in summer and cosy in the colder months.

Location doesn’t get much better than this in Porto – on a charming shopping street just a couple of streets away from Sao Bento train station. It’s the ideal position to explore the city on foot, with the ancient azulejo-tiled churches and baroque towers punctuating orange-roofed buildings. On your doorstep, you’ve got family-run restaurants, charming coffee shops and bakeries serving oven-fresh custard tarts. Plus, the famous wine warehouses that line the Douro at Ribeira are just a short stroll away.

This studio apartment is a stylish spot to return to after a day exploring downtown Porto. You’ll find this contemporary home in the historic neighbourhood of Porto. The apartment is bright and breezy and can accommodate up to six guests. While it may not be the roomiest home – it’s certainly a great base for a family or group of friends to explore the city. We particularly love the roof terrace, complete with a seating area with views over the city. Authentic restaurants and bars are just a brief walk away, and you’re not far from Bolhao Market, Santa Catarina Street, Aliados Avenue, and the river either. 


Views Over Porto

Style and practicality go hand-in-hand at this Lapa district apartment designed by the famed architect Siza Vieira. Each bedroom is as light-filled as the next, thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, and there’s a twin bedroom tailor-made for little ones. It’s worth noting the Metro overground runs close to this home – handy for getting about the city, but the passing trains may take some getting used to. But for a home this central, that’s all par of the course.

Vieira's Place

With an address on an iconic street, this home is within walking distance of many of Porto’s top attractions. We’re talking about Mercado do Bolhão (five-minutes on foot) and the majestic Clérigos Tower, an eight minute walk away. If you love books, then we’d recommend a browse around Livraria Lello, said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – it’s well worth the eleven-minute stroll.

Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. We love that the bedroom opens out onto the balcony too – perfect for breakfast in the morning.


A Strawberry Moon

You're sure to be instantly enchanted by the blue-tiled facade of this historic building – we know we were – and that traditional charm continues inside. Follow the winding staircase up to the third floor and you'll find a cosy, light-filled apartment waiting for you. Apple red French doors open onto the sweet balcony, which grants you sweeping views across Porto's rooftops and more of that pretty Portuguese tile. It's the perfect spot to indulge in an alfresco breakfast or savour a glass of vinho verde as the sun goes down – if you're anything like us, you'll spend every spare second out here, drinking in the scenery. Although the kitchenette is compact and the bathroom is on the smaller side, we didn't mind – there's still a good amount of space to get comfortable, and the minimal, boho-chic design is a palate cleanser after a busy day exploring.

Speaking of, this neighbourhood is a trendy area full of independent bars, cafes, and restaurants. You'll find plenty of charming squares nearby to have a drink in, and several of Porto's main attractions are within walking distance – namely Clérigos Tower (twelve minutes on foot), Livraria Lello bookstore (a ten-minute stroll) and the Cais da Ribeira (twenty-five minutes away). If sightseeing, shopping and dining are on your to-do list, we think this is the ideal locale for you.
