Make yourself at home in this stunning top-floor apartment situated in the heart of Porto. The first thing you'll notice is that your hosts have taken great care to preserve the original nineteenth-century features of this home while adding sophistication and style into the mix. Alongside stone walls, exposed timber frames and original wood flooring, you'll encounter bold printed wallpaper, mid-century furniture and plenty of gold accents to add a touch of luxury.

With its elevated top-floor position and sky-high vaulted ceiling, every corner of this city-centre flat is illuminated by natural light – a real rarity in these older buildings. We loved the covered balcony, where we could imagine nothing better than sitting in the wicker throne, a glass of local wine in hand, as the sound of live music drifts up from the streets below. Despite the central location, the apartment is calm and tranquil, making it perfect for families with children – especially when you add the second bunk room into the mix.

Down at street level, the neighbourhood has everything you could need, including traditional restaurants, cool cafes and well-stocked supermarkets. Meanwhile, Porto's main sights are within easy walking distance, with the riverfront promenade at Cais da Ribeira and the Neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa both a twenty-minute walk away.

We’re talking about Mercado do Bolhão (five-minutes on foot) and the majestic Clérigos Tower, an eight minute walk away. If you love books, then we’d recommend a browse around Livraria Lello, said to be one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world – it’s well worth the eleven-minute stroll.

Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. We love that the bedroom opens out onto the balcony too – perfect for breakfast in the morning.

We love the views over the River Douro and Porto from this home's terrace. You can enjoy the vistas from inside too, where you'll also find stylish interiors with wooden floors, whitewashed beams and a log burner. This home is situated right in the hub of the Port industry. There are plenty of wine cellars offering tours and tastings, such as Fonseca Port Wine Cellars and Caves Cálem within a short walk. For a bird's eye view of the city, head to the nearby Gaia Cable Car, or the stunning Porto Cathedral is a quick drive away.

Cheery yellow accents, a well-considered layout and an ideal location combine to create this inviting apartment in the heart of Porto’s Sé neighbourhood. Location doesn’t get much better than this in Porto – on a charming shopping street just a couple of streets away from Sao Bento train station. It’s the ideal position to explore the city on foot, with the ancient azulejo-tiled churches and baroque towers punctuating orange-roofed buildings. On your doorstep, you’ve got family-run restaurants, charming coffee shops and bakeries serving oven-fresh custard tarts. Plus, the famous wine warehouses that line the Douro at Ribeira are just a short stroll away.

This studio apartment is a stylish spot to return to after a day exploring downtown Porto. Modern, monochrome artworks sit against striking bottle-green walls, but the first thing that caught our attention was the wall of stone-framed windows, looking out over the tiled buildings of your typical Porto street. Throwing these open, you can listen to the chatter from the street waking up in the morning while dozing in the comfy bed before settling in at plush velvet chairs for a classic breakfast of custard tarts and coffee.

Your host can even organise food tours on request, showing you the very best of the city's gastronomic scene. Each bedroom is as light-filled as the next, thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, and there’s a twin bedroom tailor-made for little ones. It’s worth noting the Metro overground runs close to this home – handy for getting about the city, but the passing trains may take some getting used to. But for a home this central, that’s all par of the course.

Porto is a city perhaps best known for the fortified wine that borrows its name, so it only feels appropriate that this large apartment in the downtown area of the city feels like it has been designed for gathering people together. 

The space revolves around an open kitchen-dining area that looks like the trendiest restaurant in town. Here, guests can get stuck in and whip up tasty dishes, or alternatively watch the action from a seat at the large island. If you’d prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, there's the option of hiring a private chef at this address who can take care of mealtimes. Once dinner is piping hot and ready to serve, there's a huge dining table to seat the whole party and spend long evenings around. 

If you ever fancy a breath of fresh air at any point, there's a balcony with a pleasant view of the street below. Outside, Bolhão market is only a five-minute walk away when you want to pick up some fresh, local ingredients, while Bolsa Palace can be reached in just over fifteen if you're in the mood for some culture. Finish the day with some sunset watching at the Vitória viewpoint, an eighteen-minute stroll from your doorstep.

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

We had to break from doing some serious shopping to tell you about this Porto gem. This elegant apartment, housed in a recently renovated 20th-century building, is located right in the heart of the pedestrianised retail hub of Rua Santa Catarina. For fresh produce and a vibrant atmosphere, head to Mercado do Bolhão, a three-minute walk away. It's not all about shopping, though – the Chapel of Souls is a two-minute walk away, where you'll discover its beautiful azulejo tiled façade. Or take a break in the Café Majestic, a beautiful Art Nouveau café, a five-minute walk from this home. A little further, Porto Cathedral is fourteen minutes on foot. Then stop off at the small port wine shop opposite this home and take some back to this apartment.

Inside, there are furnishings from Portuguese designers and artists. Lots of large windows allow light to flood in. We adore the spacious open plan living space with its two French doors, which open onto a small balustraded balcony overlooking the street. Off the bedroom, there's a secluded terrace too, perfect for a coffee or glass of Port. Later, chill out on the mezzanine level or have a game of chess. There's plenty of room for a family or friends to spread out here. If you prefer to eat in, whip up a bacalhau à Gomes (cod casserole) in the modern kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table. Honestly, though, you probably won't be spending that much time indoors with so much on your doorstep.



Blue Sails

Cedofeita is slightly off the beaten track, but still a part of Porto's busy city centre. After you pass the neighbourhood's cosy cafes and art galleries, you'll quickly get to the riverside and other central sights. Fernando & Amalia is a simple, immaculate home with ample natural light and high-quality furniture. The building faces a busy street, which is great if you want to grab a taxi – but the communal areas are a little noisy with the windows open. We did, however, like the Porto-inspired art prints in the living room.

From preparing your morning coffee in the kitchen to relaxing in the bedroom, there’s a sense of ease and flow throughout this home. 

Follow the city buzz onto the cobbled streets of Miragaia. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is lined with beautiful townhouses and small eateries serving classic Portuguese dishes. It also offers wonderful views of the Douro River. Make your way down to the water’s edge for a boat trip or take the tram to Foz do Duoro for a day at the beach.

And while this is a studio, the addition of a sleeping platform up a few steps divides the space neatly – creating storage beneath. Step out of bed and straight into your in-room rainfall shower, before making a cup of coffee and opening up the shutters to gaze across at the park.

With wine bars and cafes on your street, you won't have to go far for a true taste of Porto, and the riverside is just a ten-minute walk.

Large balcony doors not only flood the home with natural light, but extend the communal area out to a private terrace – perfect for morning pastel de natas or evening churros. Rustle up breakfast in the contemporary, marble kitchen and sit down for convivial meals at the window-side dining table for eight. 

We especially love the attention to detail here, with objets d'art and chic art prints adorning the bookshelves and walls. It's both minimalist and yet there's a cool and creative feel to the space, reflecting Bonfirm's young, hip crowd. Practically the home ticks all the right boxes, with four comfy bedrooms, each with direct balcony access, and there's a dedicated office space for those visiting on business.

One thing to note, though, at full capacity, two people will be on a sofa bed in the living space. Situated in one of Porto’s picturesque districts, Ribeira – this apartment boasts an enviable location too. You’ll find a maze of cobbled medieval alleys, cosy bars, and eateries serving traditional cuisine. Attractions nearby include the iconic D. Luís Bridge and the beautiful Bolsa Palace.
