Situated right where the River Douro meets the Atlantic Ocean, this stylish apartment offers spectacular views and plenty of living space. Two balconies grant you the opportunity to relax in the sun – the one off the main bedroom is perfect for morning cups of coffee, while the downstairs balcony is ideal for cocktails as the evening draws to a close. Floor-to-ceiling windows show off the scenery all day long, a sleek kitchen makes rustling up meals a breeze and a cosy sofa is a perfect spot to kick back and relax after a busy day exploring. Our favourite room is the main bedroom. As well as the private balcony, it has all the bells and whistles you'd want – blackout blinds, built-in Bluetooth speakers and a lavish rainfall shower in the en-suite. 

When you're ready to explore, both the 1 and 18 trams run right past the home, so you'll have no problem getting to and from Porto's bustling city centre. That said, Foz do Douro isn't lacking in activities, either. Sprawl out on the miles of sandy beaches (Praia das Pastoras is a fifteen-minute walk away), grab dinner and drinks at one of the waterfront restaurants or just stroll along the river, admiring the many landmarks, lighthouses and sculptures representing Portugal's rich history.

Now, it's a charming spot for couples and solo travellers itching to be in the heart of this vibrant city. This place does lack character inside, and the bedroom is in a mezzanine, which may not suit taller guests. That said, though you share the patio with neighbours on either side of you, the little bistro table still makes for a nice breakfast spot every morning.

Stepping inside is like entering the pages of an interior design magazine, with warm wood and ink-black accents throughout and walls of glass letting the river view take centre stage. There's no washing machine, which makes this home more suitable for a city break than a long stay, but it's still comfortable and a pleasure to spend time in.

Simple, fresh and centrally located, this apartment makes it easy to enjoy the magic of city living. Outside, you can stroll along the tree-lined streets to restaurants, cafes and shops. It’s also just ten minutes from Casa da Musica metro station – making it easy to explore the rest of Porto. If you’re travelling by car, your host can help arrange parking nearby for an additional fee, along with a range of extra services – including breakfast and grocery deliveries. There is a sofa bed in the living room for two guests, plus one of the bedrooms includes a little balcony. It’s also a great option for remote workers with plenty of desk space.

Whether you’re interested in a concert this trip or not, Rem Koolhaas’s Casa da Música is worth a visit - especially since it’s only six minutes from your apartment. We think lunch is well spent at Cufra - their francesinha sandwich, made with sausage, steak, cheese and spicy sauce, is a solid contender for Porto’s best. Spend the afternoon exploring one of the world’s top art institutions, Fundação Serralves or marvel at the lavish fountains and sea views from Jardim do Passeio Alegre.

Situated in the centre of Porto, this apartment is in a great spot to explore this UNESCO World Heritage city. Though the antique decor may not be to everybody’s taste, the home has everything you need for a great holiday, including a fully-equipped kitchen and little patio – perfect for doing yoga or cosying up with a book in the evening. Sometimes a home makes such an impression on us that we’re willing to look past a few flaws, simply because the rest is worth it. Ruby Port is one such home. Honestly, the maintenance needs a bit of work, and the terraces need tidying up, but the place is just so special. From the spectacular views of the Douro River to the beautiful azulejo tiles and the stone fireplace, it has a distinct soul and Porto charm that we simply can't get enough of – it feels like the kind of place we could spend a long time in. Whether you're drinking a chilled glass of Porto wine from the spacious terrace, taking a dip in the private pool or even washing up in the shower, you'll be able to appreciate the lovely views over the water. Inside, light pours in through the patio doors, creating a bright and airy living space to relax. Full of cream furnishings and neutral tones, it's a homely apartment too. Step outside of the building and be in the heart of Porto, and yet you'll find the immediate neighbourhood is quiet and friendly. Walk to the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal and Museum Soares dos Reis in under ten minutes. It's a fifteen-minute ride to the beautiful Porto Cathedral, or seafood lovers can head to the fishing village of Afurada, where you can dine at one of the many fish restaurants, just over a twenty-minute walk from this gorgeous home.




Douro Really Like it

Situated close to Porto’s historical centre, this cosy apartment offers an ideal base from which to explore the city. Sure, it’s not the biggest, but it’s comfortable for two and is perfect for a couples retreat. For a quiet night in, the kitchenette has all the basics needed to whip up a meal, which, we think, is best enjoyed on the communal terrace under the Portuguese sun. If you don’t feel like cooking, this home’s enviable location has you near a whole host of restaurants, so sampling some local cuisine washed down with a glass of port is always on the menu.

Porto Magic

You'll be able to see the shimmering water from your balcony right on the banks of the Douro River. Just along the quayside, you’ll find Porto’s fabulous wine museum, dedicated to the eponymous drink this city is famous for. Perhaps pick up a bottle or two and take them back to enjoy while you look out from the balcony. In the open kitchen and living room, a glass screen conveniently separates the spaces, creating a division that still allows natural light to flow through. Small porthole windows let in a little extra light and reveal the thick stone foundations of this old building. The decor is decidedly minimalist, with splashes of pop art on the walls. In the bedroom, cooling white walls and a generous queen-size bed guarantee a peaceful rest. A ten-minute walk along the river takes you to the wine bars of Ribeira and the beautiful sights of Porto’s UNESCO-protected historic centre.

Rio & Pedra is located on a charming street on the riverside in Miragaia, a peaceful spot that's about a twenty-minute walk away from the central sights. The little balcony will let you admire the river from the comfort of the living room, but the living room is just as pleasant to hang out in – especially the dining area next to the original stone wall. This is an immaculate home where we could see that the host has given the idea of comfort a lot of thought, and we loved the high-quality soft furnishings that give it a homey touch. 

Rio & Pedra

Located opposite the famous Miguel Bombarda Street – this home offers easy access to supermarkets, restaurants, bookshops, art galleries, and stores selling design, fashion and music. Prepare for busy days of sightseeing with an energising breakfast, delivered right to your door every morning. On sunny days, why not enjoy this first coffee of the day on the sun-soaked roof terrace to take in the views of the cityscape below?

Head out and explore the heart of the city, including browsing the books at the stunning Livraria Lello– a twelve-minute walk away – which is known as one of the world’s most beautiful bookshops. What’s more, the Porto Cathedral and the Chapel of Soul can be reached on foot within twenty-four and twenty-one minutes, respectively. 

In the evening, take advantage of the restaurants and nightlife which are within as little as a one-minute walk from your door. Then, we would love to end each day with a glass of port wine, which the area is known for overlooking the city lit up at night.

Cleverly designed to maximise the abundant natural light and dazzling vistas off the balcony, the open-plan living space and dining area faces the perpetual river. Elsewhere, the bedroom is a stylish affair with calm orange tones that will soothe the soul after a day down at the beach. 

Speaking of, fill your afternoons here with sunbathing and swimming at  Praia do Carneiro's vast golden sands and crystal-clear waters. You're a short walk from Foz do Douro's waterfront promenade, boasting a variety of excellent restaurants, lively cafe-bars and popular markets for your evening's entertainment. We also recommend the 17th-century Castelo do Queijo fortress nearby for those in town for sightseeing. 

Douro Reverie

Perched in Porto's historic Miragaia neighbourhood, this modern apartment puts you around a ten-minute stroll from the city centre. Offering scenic views over the Douro River, you'll be perfectly positioned to explore on foot or via public transportation. That being said, it sits on the third floor without a lift, and the local district is notoriously steep, so it may not be the best choice for those with limited mobility. It can also get a bit noisy here, so we suggest packing earplugs. After a wander around town, guests can enjoy the open-plan living area's sociable set-up – preferably over a glass of local Port wine. Come bedtime, the air-conditioned bedrooms encourage a comfortable night's sleep. 

A Touch of Porto

Perched in the postcard-pretty district of Cais das Pedras and just a three-minute amble to the Rio Douro, you’ve got the best of Porto at your feet here. Take your pick from the sights of downtown Porto (within walking distance) or hop on the nearby tram to the laidback beaches of Foz do Douro. Though not the largest home in our Porto collection, the French balconies leading off the living room and bedroom help to open up the space. At full occupancy, the last guest will sleep on a sofa bed in the lounge. But for a home this charming, we can let that slide.

Porta Azul

This apartment is part of a former 19th-century palace in Miragaia. While the original facade maintains its Portuguese blue tiles, the interiors are minimal and modern, making it a perfect spot for those seeking a comfortable stay with a dose of history. There’s plenty of space here for a couple or small group to unwind over a glass of local port after a day sightseeing – the balcony is our pick. And if you’re visiting as a group of three, keep in mind that one guest will be sleeping on the sofa bed. Location-wise, you’re within walking distance of the National Museum Soares dos Reis, Igreja e Torre dos Clérigos and the Douro River.

Porto Palácio

With a private roof terrace in the heart of Porto, this apartment is a real hidden gem. Enjoy alfresco meals as a group or simply head up for some fresh air after a busy day of exploring. Inside, the minimalist design will help you unwind, and there's a modern kitchen for preparing home-cooked dinners. There's also a supermarket within 300 metres for stocking up, while the nearby Rua de Cedofeita shopping street offers a variety of restaurants, bars and boutiques. Just note – two people will be sleeping on a sofa bed if you're in a group of four. The home is also spread over multiple levels with no lift, so we'd recommend it for those who can easily manage stairs.

Located in the picturesque neighbourhood of Miragaia, this apartment caught our eye for its proximity to Porto's cultural highlights. It's got a minimalist style, requires a bit of a climb to reach it on the fifth floor and two guests will need to share the sleeper sofa in the living area if you're travelling with a full party. But step outside and you’ll find the Igreja do Carmo, the Portuguese Centre of Photography and Jardim da Cordoaria within walking distance. And when you want to explore further afield, you can hop on the vintage tram or metros nearby.

This apartment is the perfect place to experience all that Porto has to offer. The home itself lacks thoughtful design, and the kitchen is dated, though everything works well. If you’re easily awoken, you might want to bring an eyemask, as the bedroom curtains let in a lot of natural light. The plus, however, is the free on-site parking, which is a rarity in this area. If you’d prefer to stretch your legs, the Igreja do Carmo and the famous Livraria Lello are within walking distance.

Situated in a recently renovated building in a historic part of Porto, Rio & Agua is well-lit, comfortable and elegant. The neighbourhood is quiet, but the bustle of the city centre is roughly a twenty-minute walk away. The river is a few steps from the apartment, and the balcony gives you lovely views of it. This home is more suited to a city getaway than a long stay as it doesn’t have a washing machine, but aside from that, it’s a convenient and well-designed base for all kinds of travellers.

If you’re in search of a fuss-free stay in central Porto, this apartment delivers a great solution. Outside, you can walk to Bom Sucesso Market in less than five minutes, and you’ll find concert halls, wine bars and cafes all within easy reach. Casa da Música Metro stop is a nine-minute stroll away too. The apartment has a shaded balcony leading off the bedroom, which serves as an ideal spot to relax after a day of exploring. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room, but this is a convenient option for young families and small groups looking for an easy-going city break.

This place caught our eye for its waterfront location. Situated on the banks of the Douro River in Porto, Portugal’s second biggest city, you’re perfectly placed to enjoy relaxing walks along the riverside. The surrounding area is steeped in history with narrow, cobbled streets, merchants’ houses and iconic bridges, and the city centre is just 2km away. You’ll have access to a shared swimming pool that’s open all year round, as well as a shared garden and a restaurant. Most of the apartments offer river views but as your host operates several apartments here, the exact view may differ from the photos.
