Situated in the heart of a bustling Lisbon street, this home is in a central spot for quick access to nearby shops and restaurants. We recommend travelling by foot so you can take a good look at the gorgeous Portuguese architecture throughout the city. Sip a morning coffee on the balcony and head out to the streets below to experience the daily life of the locals.

Take a ride on a tram to explore deeper into Lisbon, or step out of the apartment for a relaxing stroll to find the hidden gems. A huge selection of restaurants is available – perfect for a meal out with the family. If you haven't brought children with you, we suggest visiting one of the many bars located nearby to the apartment for a lush night out on the town. You're on holiday, so you're going to want some bubbly to celebrate.

Head back home to pop the TV on, while you rest your aching feet from a day of adventuring. Snuggle up to the warmth of the wood–burning fireplace with some comfy socks and while away the rest of the night reading your favourite book.

Skyline Tram

Situated in the family-friendly neighbourhood of Santa Catarina, you’ll find an array of attractions nearby. Miradouro da Santa Catarina is three minutes on foot, Mercado da Ribeira is an eleven-minute stroll and the Santa Justa Lift is a fifteen-minute walk away. The stop for the famous Tram 28 is not far too. You don’t need to go anywhere though to enjoy beautiful views over the neighbourhood – just take them in from the home's small balcony, a glass of Portuguese wine in hand. The bedrooms' Juliet balconies are a nice touch here too, perfect for waking up to the Lisbon sunshine each morning. 

Lisbon in the Sun

On one of Lisbon’s historic, slanty streets where pastel buildings are trimmed with wrought-iron balconies this apartment is a rare gem. It’s in the Santa Catarina neighbourhood, a short walk from the fado bars and atmospheric restaurants of Bairro Alto and the museums and historic sights of Chiado.

The azulejo-tiled exterior radiates old Lisbon charm but, stepping inside, you’re greeted with a 21st-century haven of calm. Of course, the original windows, herringbone floor and a wall of bookshelves packed with novels feel like classic Lisbon, but the plush lemon-yellow sofa, glass-topped dining table and pendant lamps are a modern update. 

Old french doors lead to the back garden, which is a rarity this close to Lisbon’s centre. Here you’ll find a patio for alfresco dining as olive and fig trees grow in pots. The covered lounge area is our favourite thing about this home, where rattan furniture sits against a beautiful, hand-painted tile fountain, typical of the 18th century. 

Azulejo Daydream

This studio packs loads of style into its little footprint – bold artwork, copper hanging lamps and a concrete bathroom. The bed is exceptionally comfortable, perfect for catching some much-needed sleep after a long day of sightseeing. Though small, the kitchenette has a coffee machine, toaster and microwave that are ideal for easy meals and snacks to fuel your day. Oh, and we love that TV here is best enjoyed from the bed. Lively, hilly Bairro Alto is right on your doorstep, with plenty of trendy restaurants, bookshops, old-style cafes and boutiques waiting to be checked out. It’s also a bohemian neighbourhood known for its nightlife – where rows of bars dissolve into the street to make one giant outdoor party (don’t worry though, you’ll be tucked safely away on a quiet street). At sunset, check out a view of the city at Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara, just four minutes away. And for more exploring, you’re only a ten-minute walk to Chiado or Principe Real.

Childhood Crush

Located in the historic Santos district, this charming apartment brims with typical Lisbon design, style and character. From the wooden beams and floorboards, to the warm lighting and soft furniture, it's the perfect place to relax. The biggest draw is, of course, the large decked terrace, complete with a cosy string lights, an outdoor sofa and dining table. We can think of nothing better than sharing local delicacies and bottles of wine out here, during the balmy summer evenings. 

Stroll over to the Elevador da Bica, instantly connecting you to the entire city, then wander around the trendy Bairro Alto district, filled with art houses, boutiques, cafes and bars. If you’re feeling peckish, you're in luck. The local neighbourhood of Madragoa is well renowned for its gorgeous architecture, traditional taverns and petiscos (tapas) restaurants. 

Starlight in Santos

Compact but cosy, this central apartment is a great base for exploring Lisbon. The balcony is a sweet bonus – not to mention the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastel de nata before setting off. Since it's on the third floor without a lift, this home won't suit guests who struggle with stairs. One bedroom is smaller than the other – it's a good option for kids – and the kitchen lacks an oven, so dining out will likely be on the cards. Even so, you've got a wealth of options nearby, plus you're walking distance from attractions like Praça do Comércio (twenty minutes away), Santa Justa Lift (fifteen minutes) and the Tram 28.

Dias de Amor

With an impressive selection of museums, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants all close by, it's easy to see why this sunny home in the heart of Lisbon is so popular. As it's on the sixth floor with beautiful big windows, it does get a little toasty in the summer months. But the view from the open-plan living room overlooking the Tagus River below is truly breathtaking. We loved the Brigitte Bardot portrait and sporadic placement of bright prints and sculptures. 

Sugar Rush

Get set to escape reality and embrace all things Alcântara as you retreat to this modern, centrally-located apartment. This stunning and bright home is situated right next to Lx Factory – the 1846 industrial factory complex which is now, a cultural hub of designers, artists and architects offering events, boutiques and restaurants – the perfect spot to spend your day.

The home itself is defined by tall windows that invite the natural light to sweep through every room, ornate-corniced ceilings, and contemporary soft furnishings, giving the place a sense of modernist charm. The stunning dining room features a large table and a large-scale artwork creating an idyllic environment for intimate dinners with the produce you picked up from the Lx Rural Farmers Market on Sunday. The walled courtyard with adjoining conservatory is a picture of calm, with its cosy chairs, rattan accents and tropical plants – spend afternoons here with the new book you picked up from Ler Devagar, a few steps from your apartment. Minimal and breezy but totally inviting, this place is brought to life by statement light fixtures, graphic throws and thoughtful touches. 

Located so centrally, you have a myriad of cultural options to invest in, as well as a tranquil base from which to explore them all. Spend the day gallery hopping - explore the contemporary works at AINORI art gallery Galeria Ainori (a five-minute walk) and the progressive exhibitions at the cultural institution, MAAT, just a twenty-three-minute walk away.

White Tropics

Love a little retail therapy? This could be the place for you. Stroll down Avenida da Liberdade, the tree-lined boulevard this home is situated on, and you’re met with an abundance of shops. After a day of sightseeing and shopping, this apartment, perfect for a couple, is a welcome retreat. Comfortable and well-equipped, you’ll find all you need for a relaxing stay in the city. And the cherry on the cake? The communal rooftop pool – just the spot to relax and cool off in the Portuguese heat. 

Lisbon Retreat

You'll instantly fall in love with this charming apartment, situated in the heart of Lisbon. With plenty of space, an excellent location, and a hefty dose of style, it's guaranteed to make you feel at home right away. 

The living area is a chic space where you can really relax – you'll love admiring the splashes of colour and quirky design details dotted throughout. Budding chefs can whip up a delicious Portuguese feast in the kitchen and serve their culinary creations at the gorgeous dining table. And, the open-plan layout makes is perfect for socialising – you can chat to your guests about your plans over a delicious glass of wine in the evening. 

Step outside, and you'll find yourself in the Baixa neighbourhood, just steps away from many of the city's most iconic sights. Both the Arco da Rua Augusta and the famous trams are only one minute away on foot, as is the Praça do Comércio. And, if you want to visit the Santa Justa Elevator, it's only a five-minute walk away – it really doesn't get more central than this.

The Sketchbook

This home feels comfortable, high-end, and characterful. It’s hard to ask for more, but we picked it apart and here’s what we found. The Handhake's baren bones are great – this home is located inside a renovated Baixa townhouse, which has high ceilings and French windows as standard, but the host didn’t rely solely on that. There are a few nice pieces of art in here, notably the statuettes and the mirrors in the bedroom, which give it a modern look.
