In the heart of Lisbon’s historic centre, this apartment is a five-minute walk to the waterside Praça do Comércio lined with shops and restaurants on the River Tagus. Winding, cobbled streets packed with bars and restaurants lead from the apartment to Castelo de S. Jorge on the hilltop, a ten-minute walk away. True to its historic surroundings, this home retains some original features of the traditional Pombaline building it’s housed in. A wooden frame from the post-earthquake reconstruction of 1755 juts out into the living room. Bold black and gold artwork has been hand-picked to complement the wooden structure. Waking up in the master bedroom is a real treat as sunlight streams through French windows, which can be opened up to create a Juliet balcony. 

Pombaline Dream

Between Estrela and the river in Lisbon, you'll find this home's location, the Lapa district. It's a peaceful residential area with some charming attractions, such as the Basilica da Estrela and the neoclassical Assembleia da República. Or head to the nearby Museu da Marioneta, a museum of Portuguese puppetry housed in the Convent of Bernardas. There are plenty of eateries to enjoy in the locale too.

Or head back to this stylish home and cook up some Piri Piri chicken. Then relax on the small balcony with a glass of wine. The living space, with its multiple windows, is bathed in light. We particularly love the main bedroom with its original shutters and French doors that open onto a Juliet balcony.

It's just a two-minute stroll to Praça Luís de Camões with its statues of Portuguese literary icons, while the National Theatre of São Carlos is five minutes on foot. Other attractions nearby include Lisbon Cathedral, under a twenty-minute walk and the Elevador De Santa Justa, a ten-minute saunter.

Back at this lovely apartment, take in the fabulous views over the River Tagus with a glass of rosé wine – we love the traditional tiles here too. Inside, an array of plants give this place a homely feel. Enjoy a pastel de nata at the dining table or relax on the comfy grey sofa after all that sightseeing. This home is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a sophisticated setting.


Chiado Chic

While the city of Lisbon is an explosion of colour down at street level, this apartment is pretty muted when it comes to interior design. The dominant colour palette of svelte greys and neutrals is contemporary in style, as are the sleek furnishings.

This restraint means that the pretty view of Santos from the private balcony really stands out. Straight head you can see treetops around a quiet public square while glancing to the left will give you an uninterrupted view of the River Tagus. 

It must be said that the kitchen is a little rudimentary, but that needn't be a problem if you're planning to get acquainted with Lisbon's culinary scene. There's street food galore in the Time Out Market, only eight minutes' walk from the building, as well as plenty of restaurants along the riverfront. The National Museum of Ancient Art is only a thirteen-minute walk away, too.

Historic Alfama, with its medieval warren of streets, is just a twelve-minute walk from this modern home, while the chic boutiques of Chiado are a fifteen-minute saunter. The harbour-facing square, Praça do Comércio, on the other hand, is a mere four-minute stroll and is surrounded by an array of eateries – your host can make restaurant reservations for you if you wish. It's the same walking distance to Sé de Lisboa, the city's beautiful cathedral – although you don't have to go anywhere to admire it, you can see it from this stylish apartment's windows. It's plain to see this gorgeous home belongs to a designer. The generous space is furnished with standout pieces of furniture and fabulous modern art. If you don't fancy eating out, whip up a Portuguese feast in the kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table – this place is perfect for entertaining.

The Creative Process

Situated on Rua da Boavista, between the vibrant neighbourhoods of Santos and Cais do Sodré, you’ll be close to some of the hippest restaurants and bars in the city. There are plenty of top attractions within walking distance. Still, if you don’t fancy exploring on foot, at the nearby Cais do Sodré station, you have access to both the metro (green line) and the train (Cascais line), as well as several buses and trams that will whisk you across Lisbon.

After all that exploring, you’ll really appreciate coming home to this stylish apartment. Large arched windows allow light to flood in. We love the funky armchairs – have a seat and take the weight off your feet. After a rest, get ready in the marble-clad bathroom and head out for dinner at one of the local eateries.

Set on a quiet street lined with typical Portuguese buildings, it's easy to forget you're so close to the bustling centre and waterfront of Lisbon. It's an excellent choice for culture seekers after a practical pad that doesn't compromise on style, with convenience and modern comfort in mind. 

The flat is decorated in a charming Lisbon style, combining natural materials, homespun furnishings and a splash of warm colours to create a stylish home. The bedroom is kept minimal with crisp white linens and pretty prints adorning the walls, so you'll have no trouble getting a good night's sleep here. There's a sleek kitchen with traditional azulejo tiles and a bright dining space for inviting guests over and feasting together. Natural light bounces off the wood floors, creating a cool living space to rest weary legs and unwind with a glass of Rioja.

As we walked past this apartment's hidden, shared courtyard oasis, we knew we had found something special. But that's nothing compared to the communal roof terrace with views over the city and glimpses of the River Tagus. It's a fantastic place to gather at sunset with your loved ones when the golden hour bathes Lisbon in a magical light.

Inside this home, plants and modern artwork create a homely vibe. Open the French doors to the Juliet balcony and let the warm, fresh air in. We love the marble bathroom here – very glam.

The area is a winner too. Tram 25, which takes you to the centre, is just down from the building, so getting around is simple. Time Out Market, with its twenty restaurants and stylish music venue bars, as well as shops and market vendors selling fresh food and flowers, is only a four-minute walk away. For art and history lovers, the National Museum of Contemporary Art is a twelve-minute stroll, while Lisbon Cathedral is twenty-two minutes on foot.



The Golden Hours

Perched on top of a renovated townhouse, View & Walkability boasts a fantastic location and a great view from the balcony. Rua de São Nicolau is within walking distance to all the central sights, restaurants, and cafes – but the central location does translate to a vibrant atmosphere that won't suit those who are looking for a tranquil stay. Our favourite hangout spot in this home is the balcony, which is great for a morning coffee, but even on rainy days, the living room gets great natural light. We also loved the eclectic design that mixes the old and new.

This slick, multi-level apartment sits in cool and central Príncipe Real. Inside is characterful, warm, and welcoming. We’re talking hardwood floors, walls filled with bold prints in artfully mismatched frames, sleek leather sofas, and beds that wouldn’t be out of place in a high-end hotel. The kitchen has everything you would need if you weren’t dining out in one of the gazillion acclaimed restaurants that Lisbon is famous for. We love the elevated touches in this home, like the HD projector you can plug your laptop into for film night on the mezzanine. Pick up an iconic Portuguese custard tart on your way to the nearby subway station Baixa-Chiado and explore further afield. This area is friendly, relaxed, and cool - you'll be feeling like a local in no time.

Stay in a classical Pombaline building, with architecture reminiscent of the city’s reconstruction period after the Great Earthquake of 1755. While the outside is traditional, and you can see the traces of history in the painted wooden frames and stone niches inside, you’ll find this home to be utterly contemporary – especially when it comes to its striking art collection. The living area is bright and open-concept, with the sofa and TV area seamlessly blending with the sleek dining table and kitchen. The bedrooms have long beautiful windows to let the morning light in when you wake and comfortable beds to usher you into a deep sleep after a long day on your feet. And you’re sure to spend at least some of your time exploring on foot, as well located as you are. You’ll be just a three-minute walk to the Lisbon Cathedral, eight minutes to Praça do Rossio and ten minutes to Castelo de S. Jorge. Minimal and breezy but totally inviting, this place is brought to life by statement light fixtures, graphic throws and thoughtful touches. 

Located so centrally, you have a myriad of cultural options to invest in, as well as a tranquil base from which to explore them all. Spend the day gallery hopping - explore the contemporary works at AINORI art gallery Galeria Ainori (a five-minute walk) and the progressive exhibitions at the cultural institution, MAAT, just a twenty-three-minute walk away.

When your apartment is under ten minutes from Alfama, you might think it would be hard to compete with such striking surroundings. Speaking of which, it’s a four-minute wander to the Sé de Lisboa, six to the waterfront restaurants of Praça do Comércio, and only ten to the hilltop vantage point of the Castelo de S. Jorge. While iconic sights are all around, the historic features of this home also make a lasting impression. In this restored Pombaline building, its stone nooks and wooden earthquake supports date back to the 1755 reparations. As a reminder of the area’s fascinating history, the interiors still display some of these original elements. Despite this, you’ll find fresh, sophisticated, and modern updates to the decor. Painting the gaiola pombalina timber in a bright white is a touch of genius, plus we love the sleek, matte-charcoal kitchen and the lemon-yellow sofa in the lounge. With contemporary art pieces adorning the walls, this creative home has been kitted out for the 21st century. But when you’re not busy admiring what’s on offer inside, we recommend heading to the windows with a chilled glass of vinho verde. From up here on the sixth floor, the views are simply astounding.

Housed in a cultural heritage building right on Lisbon’s famous Pink Street – named as one of the New York Times’s favourite European streets – this stylish apartment puts you in a prime spot to experience the city’s famous nightlife, as well as its most historic and cultural sights. 
 
Inside, tall corniced ceilings and wood floors make a stately impression, with an earthy-toned contemporary decor that feels both chicly bohemian and wonderfully Portuguese. We love the large arched windows that let in plenty of sunlight, as well as the views of bustling Pink Street below. 
 
The three bedrooms have been elegantly curated with a pared-back aesthetic, while the bathroom with its diamond-pattern marble floors and inviting tub offers a welcoming wake-up each morning. 
 
With a desk on hand too, you’re all set should you need to catch up on work, but with countless things to see and do nearby, we suggest less work and more play. 
 
Head to the Time Out Market – a three-minute walk – to sample some of Lisbon’s best street food, or explore bustling Praça do Comércio, a ten-minute stroll away. You’re also within easy walking distance of the Santa Justa Lift (twelve minutes), Lisbon Cathedral (fifteen minutes) and the labyrinthine Alfama district (twenty minutes) while plenty of bars, restaurants and shops are right on your front step.

We love how the host here has used soft furnishings to bring the simple interior to life, especially in the open-plan living area where we could easily see ourselves whiling away the evening, glass of wine in one hand and a good book in the other. 

Savour your morning coffee at the four-seater dining table then set off for a day of exploring with your fellow guests. You’re within easy reach of all the obvious attractions here – think Lisbon Cathedral and Rossio Square – but you’ll also have a whole host of independent restaurants and bars at your fingertips, ideal if you want to spend your evenings out and about. Sample some of the city’s best cuisine as you listen to live Fado music then head home for a well-deserved rest, the soulful sound of the guitar still ringing in your ears.

A practical base that’s all primed for sightseeing, this apartment ticks a lot of boxes for a fuss-free city stay. While the contemporary decor isn’t the most inspiring in our collection, a well-proportioned kitchen and French doors leading out onto a Juliet balcony are nice touches here. Well suited to those looking to drop their bags and set off for some exploring, it puts you just a one-minute walk from Praça do Comércio and a three-minute stroll from the Santa Justa Lift.

The interior-facing bedroom will ensure a good night's sleep, while the bright communal area with a view of the busy street will keep you immersed in the pulse of the city.

A lively location, a characterful living space, and stunning views? This pad in the heart of historic Chiado has all that and more, including marbled bathrooms, stylish bedrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen and plenty of space for groups to spread out. The sumptuous L-shaped sofa is enormous – it's perfect for movie nights, afternoon siestas or unwinding with a glass of wine (your host leaves a bottle for you to enjoy), and we loved the eclectic decorations brought back from the host's travels. That said, the star of the show here is the incredible view. From the small balcony and big windows, you can spot the Carmo Convent, Tagus River and even Castelo de S. Jorge in the distance. It'll be hard to pull yourself away from the scenery, but when you decide to venture out, this area is as central as it gets. You're right on the cusp of vibrant Bairro Alto, home to trendy nightlife and bars, but you're also within walking distance to all the must-see sights. Plus, the nearest metro stop is a three-minute walk away.

Retro Rita

Situated in the heart of Baixa, a seven-minute stroll from the neo-gothic glory of the Santa Justa lift, immerse yourself in Lisbon’s most renowned neighbourhood while staying in this home. This chic apartment oozes elegance from the offset, located in a traditional powder-blue building with white frames around every window. Inside, the vibe is distinctly more modern, but classy nonetheless. We love the industrial-style furniture such as the wire armchairs and nested coffee tables with matching black metal legs. And in other rooms, plush sophistication is the theme of the day. The master bedroom’s white cushioned headboard and velvet cushions bring a regal vibe, which feels even more palatial with the huge amount of space (including a walk-in wardrobe for all your sartorial needs). But enough about the interiors – the exteriors are our favourite part of the home. Find a charmingly ornate, iron balcony with cute stools and a table, looking out to the colourful streets of Baixa. Or you can head down to the resident’s garden to soak up the sun and nibble olives on the lawn. Whichever spot you choose, you can make it even better with a bottle of douro in tow.

Thanks to its central location in Lisbon's bohemian Bairro Alto, this apartment is the perfect base to explore the Portuguese capital. Walk the winding streets of this neighbourhood to immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of Lisbon. When the hills get a bit too much, you can always hop onto one of the iconic trams as they weave their way through the city. You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. We love the natural light and the roomy bedrooms, which make getting up in the morning an absolute pleasure.

And yet the area is surprisingly quiet, and with the inviting terrace that awaits you, it's the perfect pad for those who like a quick recharge in between adventures. The living space is bright and practical, with a fully equipped kitchenette, and both bedrooms come with desks for those working remotely. Just note that you'll need to climb up a staircase to reach this apartment on the third floor.

The Elevador de Santa Justa is one of the most iconic landmarks in Lisbon, and this bright, stylish apartment is on the same street (just a one-minute walk away) in the city’s pedestrianised area of Baixa. Take in views of the Santa Justa Lift from the comfortable living room where an elegant blue sofa invites you to relax with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing and the light-filled dining area waits to host breakfasts over coffee and fresh pastéis de nata. We love the sun-coloured kitchenette and the green tiles in the bathrooms – this home is full of colourful accents that give it a real sense of character and welcome. Factor in the two simple yet elegant bedrooms waiting to drift you into a dreamy night’s sleep and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay. Aside from the Santa Justa Lift, you’ve got plenty of other main attractions within easy walking distance, including the Carmo Convent (four minutes), the Praça Dom Pedro IV (two minutes), Praça do Comércio (seven minutes), as well as the Alfama district and its São Jorge Castle (twelve minutes away). 


Uplift

This sunny home is in a quiet residential area of Lisbon. It's perfect for those who want to relax after spending the day exploring the city. Within walking distance are small groceries, cafes, and the tram, which will quickly take you into the centre of town. The beautiful Jardim da Estrela is close by too – a garden where you can picnic beneath the shade of the trees in the summer. We'd recommend paying a visit to the Praça das Flores where you can buy drinks and pastries. Though when the weather is good, you might prefer simply spending time sipping a glass of wine on the balcony. It's the crowning jewel of this apartment, perfect for both your morning coffee and an evening nightcap under the stars.

This home feels comfortable, high-end, and characterful. It’s hard to ask for more, but we picked it apart and here’s what we found. The Handhake's baren bones are great – this home is located inside a renovated Baixa townhouse, which has high ceilings and French windows as standard, but the host didn’t rely solely on that. There are a few nice pieces of art in here, notably the statuettes and the mirrors in the bedroom, which give it a modern look.

With an impressive selection of museums, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants all close by, it's easy to see why this sunny home in the heart of Lisbon is so popular. As it's on the sixth floor with beautiful big windows, it does get a little toasty in the summer months. But the view from the open-plan living room overlooking the Tagus River below is truly breathtaking. We loved the Brigitte Bardot portrait and sporadic placement of bright prints and sculptures.
