After a restful snooze in the comfortable bedrooms, come together around the dining table to hash out the day’s plans over a light breakfast, rustled up in your fully-equipped kitchen. Finish the dregs of your coffee on the Juliet balcony then pull on your walking shoes and hit the streets. Follow Calçada do Combro into the heart of Chiado for a spot of shopping and a visit to the Livraria Bertrand – the world’s oldest bookshop. 

Hop on the iconic Tram 28 to Praça do Comércio for unfettered views of the Tagus River. When you’re feeling peckish, fill up on Portuguese fare in the Time Out Market or seek out a traditional tasca for a no-fuss, hearty lunch. 

Anjo da Guarda

Compact but cosy, this central apartment is a great base for exploring Lisbon. The balcony is a sweet bonus – not to mention the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastel de nata before setting off. Since it's on the third floor without a lift, this home won't suit guests who struggle with stairs. One bedroom is smaller than the other – it's a good option for kids – and the kitchen lacks an oven, so dining out will likely be on the cards. Even so, you've got a wealth of options nearby, plus you're walking distance from attractions like Praça do Comércio (twenty minutes away), Santa Justa Lift (fifteen minutes) and the Tram 28.

Dias de Amor

This laid-back home in Chiado is perfect for those looking to be in the heart of Lisbon’s action. Surrounded by some of the city’s best sights, this unpresumptuous home allows its open spaces and huge windows do the talking, with a minimalist design aesthetic that feels as chic as it does calm. We love the living room’s tall corniced ceilings and the large shuttered windows that make the whole space feel bright. The kitchen, too, is a masterclass in elegant simplicity, concentrating on natural textures – a marble countertop and hardwood floors – and featuring a long table that just begs to be gathered around for morning and evening feasts. The two pared-back bedrooms complete the home, along with an azulejo adorned bathroom that gives the apartment a touch of Portuguese traditionalism. Away from the apartment, you’re just a seven-minute walk from the bustling Time Out food market, a fifteen-minute walk from Praça do Comércio and a twenty-five-minute stroll from São Jorge Castle. Bairro Alto is also right around the corner, five minutes away, with its bohemian cobbled streets packed with hip boutiques, quirky bars and intimate fado bars.


Amber Lily

Less than a five-minute stroll away from Praça do Comércio, Lisbon Cathedral and the River Tagus, this apartment is perfectly placed for exploring. Stroll down Rua Augusta with a coffee and pastry, pop in and out of the independent shops nearby or grab a bite to eat at the array of restaurants on your doorstep. Whatever you fancy – be it historical monuments or lively bars – chances are, it's within walking distance. When you're not taking advantage of this central spot, unwind back at home with a glass of wine and music playing on the Bluetooth speaker. Set within a renovated Pombaline style building, the host's have expertly merged original features with modern design, creating a trendy and clean living space with mid-century furniture, a laid-back natural colour scheme and heaps of natural lights. Our favourite feature has to be the Juliet balconies on the windows – fling open the doors and admire the views of Lisbon's hills and charming streets below.

Hipster 'Stache

Stay in a classical Pombaline building, with architecture reminiscent of the city’s reconstruction period after the Great Earthquake of 1755. While the outside is traditional, and you can see the traces of history in the painted wooden frames and stone niches inside, you’ll find this home to be utterly contemporary – especially when it comes to its striking art collection. The living area is bright and open-concept, with the sofa and TV area seamlessly blending with the sleek dining table and kitchen. The bedrooms have long beautiful windows to let the morning light in when you wake and comfortable beds to usher you into a deep sleep after a long day on your feet. And you’re sure to spend at least some of your time exploring on foot, as well located as you are. You’ll be just a three-minute walk to the Lisbon Cathedral, eight minutes to Praça do Rossio and ten minutes to Castelo de S. Jorge. Fit in all your sightseeing, then wander the old streets of Alfama, perusing the shops and traditional restaurants that will complete a perfect Lisbon day. 

Obrigado

With its exposed Gaiola wooden beams taking center stage against a backdrop of stylish Scandinavian furniture, this expertly restored Pombalinan apartment in Lisbon's busy Baixa is a real beauty. Despite being close to lively streets in Alfama, Mouraria and Praça Figueira, it's still surprisingly quiet at nighttime. The iconic Tram 28 is just a five-minute walk away, Praça do Comércio riverside ten minutes away, and a handful of fantastic museums are just a little further on from that. 

Through the Woods

Get set to escape reality and embrace all things Alcântara as you retreat to this modern, centrally-located apartment. This stunning and bright home is situated right next to Lx Factory – the 1846 industrial factory complex which is now, a cultural hub of designers, artists and architects offering events, boutiques and restaurants – the perfect spot to spend your day.

The home itself is defined by tall windows that invite the natural light to sweep through every room, ornate-corniced ceilings, and contemporary soft furnishings, giving the place a sense of modernist charm. The stunning dining room features a large table and a large-scale artwork creating an idyllic environment for intimate dinners with the produce you picked up from the Lx Rural Farmers Market on Sunday. The walled courtyard with adjoining conservatory is a picture of calm, with its cosy chairs, rattan accents and tropical plants – spend afternoons here with the new book you picked up from Ler Devagar, a few steps from your apartment. Minimal and breezy but totally inviting, this place is brought to life by statement light fixtures, graphic throws and thoughtful touches. 

Located so centrally, you have a myriad of cultural options to invest in, as well as a tranquil base from which to explore them all. Spend the day gallery hopping - explore the contemporary works at AINORI art gallery Galeria Ainori (a five-minute walk) and the progressive exhibitions at the cultural institution, MAAT, just a twenty-three-minute walk away.

White Tropics

Lisbon’s terracotta-topped buildings stretch out below this apartment, in the middle of the city’s most cultured neighbourhood. Quiet and laid-back during the day, Bairro Alto comes to life at night – characteristics that are echoed throughout the rooms of this home. The underlying neutral palette of the living spaces is offset by colourful art, coloured accents and a wall-mounted sculpture over the master bed, giving the rooms a touch of quirk and vibrancy. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the four of you will have a comfortable stay for sure. There’s plenty of space for two couples to enjoy time to themselves, but also to come together for a home-delivered breakfast or drinks on the balcony, perhaps. When you decide to venture out, the city's sights and many restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance.

Bohemian Soul

Situated in the Lisbon neighbourhood of Santa Catarina, this apartment is bursting with character – much like the surrounding city itself. 

The open living area is wonderfully bright thanks to the row of French doors that run along one wall, which open out to a succession of Juliet balconies whenever you're in need of a burst of fresh air. We like that the design is contemporary but far from cookie-cutter, with lots of unique touches, like the fetching chequered TV stand and the timberwork separating the cooking quarters. It's a similar story in the bedrooms, one of which has a walk-in wardrobe that will really sing to fashionistas paying a visit.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the Portuguese capital, the central location means that you don't have far to walk to reach attractions. The buzzy food stalls in the Mercado da Ribeira are 800 metres from the front door and there are fantastic views to be had from Miradouro de Santa Catarina half that distance away.

Main Character Energy

Combining contemporary touches with rustic architectural elements, this sophisticated apartment in Lisbon’s historic Bica neighbourhood is not only perfectly placed but a pleasure to stay in. French doors allow natural light to illuminate the living space – relax on the L-shaped sofa with your tipple of choice or take a seat at the dining table with a box of freshly baked pastéis de nata. While there’s a well-appointed kitchen at your disposal, we recommend hanging up your chef’s apron and sampling the excellent selection of bars, restaurants and tascas right on your doorstep. 

If sightseeing is on the itinerary, begin with the Carmo Convent, just a short walk away, before moseying to Praça do Comércio for views of the Tagus River. Head east to Alfama, stopping at the Lisbon Cathedral, then weave through the higgledy-piggledy cobblestone streets to the Portas do Sol viewpoint to watch the sun set behind the terracotta rooftops. 

Me Resta Sonhar

A gem of a flat, in a gem of a location, Sterling Copper feels just how a Lisbon home should. Given it feels so modern, the way that a link to its history has been maintained is impressive. In fact, the whole building has been done up by the same architect, and several apartments are available to be rented out. That makes this flat unusually good for larger groups, as even though it can only hold four people, there’s nothing stopping you from booking several places in the building at once.


Sterling Copper

This stylish apartment sits atop the highest hill in Lisbon. Thanks to the hardwood floors, stone wall, small balconies and large windows that fill the space with light, there's a cosy vibe here that will make you feel right at home. Oh, and did we mention the view? Just step out onto the balcony and you'll see the sparkling river in the distance. There's a fully-stocked kitchen that makes cooking a breeze, and your hosts are also more than happy to arrange exciting extras like breakfast delivery, home massages, surf lessons, a cruise on the Tagus and even helicopter rides. Though you're a bit far from Praça do Comércio and the city centre (it's a fifteen-minute bus ride), staying in Graça is worth it. You'll find colourful houses, local restaurants making traditional Portuguese fare and independent shops nestled amongst the cobblestone alleyways. Not to mention this area has some of the best viewpoints in Lisbon – we suggest Miradouro da Graça, which is a fifteen-minute walk away.
