The first thing you’ll notice, stepping into the apartment, is the view directly over the Douro River from the wall of big windows in the living room. Amble alongside the Duoro River with an ice cream in hand before watching the world pass by in a charming cafe. In the early evening, we recommend watching the sunset from the nearby Miradouro da Rua das Aldas viewpoint.

Set upriver from Porto in the small town of Valbom, while you can reach the medieval hotspots of Riberia on foot (forty-five minutes), it's just as easy to hop in a taxi. Or charter a private boat to arrive at Porto's Cais da Ribeira waterfront in style – the apartment shares a private docking, don't you know.

Along the charming cobbled streets of Porto’s Baixa neighbourhood sits Rustic Tawny, a small but beautifully curated studio apartment. Boasting pastoral architectural features in combination with minimalist interiors, we were not only impressed with the sleek look but more importantly, the comfort provided. On top of that, you’ll be staying in a fabulous location, especially if you’ve never been to Porto before. You're right by the city centre and close to the most important tourist attractions. Of course, it wouldn't be Porto if wonderful cafes didn't also line the streets.

Found in one of the oldest residential buildings in Porto, this apartment might not look 200 years old thanks to modernisation, but it remains historic. Now updated to house families itching to explore this UNESCO World Heritage City, it's comfortable – though the two bedrooms with the sloped ceilings might be better for kids – and bright with a fantastic location. Walk to Porto Cathedral and other landmarks in minutes, buy fresh produce from the Bolhão market only a short stroll away, and hop on the trams to find points of interest further afield. 

A Little Piece of Porto

Location doesn’t get much better than this in Porto – on a charming shopping street just a couple of streets away from Sao Bento train station. It’s the ideal position to explore the city on foot, with the ancient azulejo-tiled churches and baroque towers punctuating orange-roofed buildings. On your doorstep, you’ve got family-run restaurants, charming coffee shops and bakeries serving oven-fresh custard tarts. Plus, the famous wine warehouses that line the Douro at Ribeira are just a short stroll away.

This studio apartment is a stylish spot to return to after a day exploring downtown Porto. Back at this home, take in the views over the city from your private balcony with a glass of rich Port or a cup of coffee. Alternatively, relax on the green mid-century style sofa, next to the potted palm in the light-filled open plan living space. We love that the bedroom opens out onto the balcony too – perfect for breakfast in the morning.

This stylish apartment is a superb base in Porto. It’s in a wonderfully central location close to many of the city’s most popular sights, including the Sé do Porto, which you can walk to in less than thirty minutes. For further afield attractions, you can hop on the metro at Heroísmo station, a 140-metre walk away. The apartment is close to restaurants and cafes, as well as some excellent pastry shops – you’ll never be too far from your next pastel de nata. We love the simplicity of this attractive home, with its petite balcony and open-plan living and dining space. It’s a great choice for a large group.

With high ceilings and stripped-back woodwork to its trio of Juliet balcony windows, it's full of character, and its recent refurbishment has added a big helping of modern styling and clever design. 

There's a bespoke kitchen packed with everything you'll need for cooking at home, along with a comfy sofa, a little dining area and even a desk. And while this is a studio, the addition of a sleeping platform up a few steps divides the space neatly – creating storage beneath. Step out of bed and straight into your in-room rainfall shower, before making a cup of coffee and opening up the shutters to gaze across at the park.

With wine bars and cafes on your street, you won't have to go far for a true taste of Porto, and the riverside is just a ten-minute walk.

Calling all oenophiles. This Porto apartment is situated in the city's historic wine quarter. You'll be a stone's throw from the underground cellars and local restaurants that characterise this neighbourhood and just a quick metro ride from landmarks like the Clérigos Tower and the Ribeira. The building is over 100 years old – it certainly doesn't lack charm. We adore the hand-painted blue tiles on the exterior, while inside, neoclassical windows flood the living space with sunlight and quaint Juliet balconies offer views towards the centre. It's not the largest pad and the kitchen is pretty compact, but with a desk for remote working and two cosy bedrooms, we think it'll do nicely for a Porto getaway.

Sun-Kissed Wine

Guests rave about the location of this Porto apartment, and it’s easy to see why. Set in a quiet corner of Ribeira, the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira Square, and neoclassical Bolsa Palace are all just a short stroll away. It’s worth noting if six guests share, two of you will have to make do with a double sofa bed in the living space. Not ideal for some, but it could work great for family sharing. The small inner courtyard is a nice touch for sundowners, and there’s plenty of space to spill out around the dining table for lazy breakfasts of pastel de natas picked up from the nearby bakeries.

Outside of your home, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including Porto Cathedral (thirteen minutes), Livraria Lello (fifteen minutes), Rua Santa Catarina (seven minutes) and the waterfront Cais da Ribeira (eighteen minutes).

Located on one of Porto’s liveliest streets, this studio apartment is very close to the iconic Ribeira which can be reached on foot within seven minutes. A picturesque part of the city, in the heart of the old town, Ribeira is a riverside spot overlooking the Douro River where you can visit Praça da Ribeira square which is lined with colourful 18th-century townhouses, and visit Bolsa Palace, a neoclassical landmark with ornate interiors which is a short three-minute walk from your door. At dinner time, weave your way through the cobbled streets of Ribeira where you will find plenty of small bars and eateries – to taste classic Portuguese fare such as grilled sardines.

This home is also perfectly situated to explore everything else that Porto has to offer. Porto Cathedral can be reached within five minutes by foot where you can enjoy the sunlight shining in through the stained glass rose window as you explore one of the city’s oldest Romanesque monuments. Clérgios Tower is just a seven-minute walk away, while a chance to admire the blue-tiled exterior of The Church of Souls – painted with scenes of saints – is just a ten-minute walk from your door.

Go shopping at Livraria Lello, often regarded as one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world – just an eight-minute walk away. Or, experience what Porto is best known for – its port wine production – at a wine tasting room just two minutes away from this home on foot. Down the Ribeira

Cute and colourful, this apartment in the Sé neighbourhood offers a privileged position from which to explore the city. The Church of Saint Ildefonso is just a five-minute walk away, and the Mercado do Bolhão, the Livraria Lello bookshop and Porto Cathedral are all reachable on foot as well. There’s not much storage space in this studio-style pad, so you’ll want to pack light. But a generously sized kitchen offers flexibility with mealtimes when you’re not sampling the many local restaurants. And the large French windows are perfect for perching by with a glass of Port each evening.

Make yourself comfortable on the sectional after a long day of sightseeing, or perch by the French doors’ Juliet balcony with a glass of wine while people-watching from your privileged position. Better yet, make your way up to the communal rooftop terrace at sunset for sweeping views over Porto’s rooftops, before enjoying a meal at your dining table or venturing out to sample the local restaurant scene. 

Speaking of exploring, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, including the ornate Livraria Lello bookstore (a one-minute walk), Igreja do Carmo (a four-minute walk), the Clérigos Tower (a six-minute walk) and Porto Cathedral (a twelve-minute walk).

Situated in the charming Ribeiro neighbourhood, a three-minute walk from the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and within touching distance of old-school restaurants serving traditional Portuguese fare, this modern and bright apartment is a great base for exploring all that Porto has to offer.

We loved the light-filled living space, with its huge floor-to-ceiling windows and double-height ceilings. A dining table takes centre stage, encouraging lively breakfasts in the morning and hearty suppers in the evening. There’s also a cosy mezzanine level that is the perfect spot for reclining with a glass of wine before retreating to sumptuous bedrooms for an early night. 

Slip into the narrow cobbled streets and begin your sightseeing adventure. The 12th-century Porto Cathedral is six minutes from your doorstep and the Igreja dos Clérigos with its 75-metre-tall bell tower is reached in less than ten. When it’s time to call it a day, make a beeline for the Vitória viewpoint to watch dusk fall across the city.

Located in the heart of vibrant Porto, this bright and welcoming studio apartment is an excellent base for a city break. It’s on the second floor of a building in lively Rua das Flores, within easy walking distance of the city’s main squares and key landmarks. Inside, the studio is stylish, and equipped with everything you might need during your stay. There’s a convenient desk for those in town for business, and there’s more room to spread out than in most central studios. We like the cosy sitting area, as well as the handy kitchenette.

Just a short walk from the Duror River, this Vila Nova de Gaia location offers up the perfect Porto pad for your time in the city. Come for the balcony and stay for the mid-century interior – everything you need is here. A sociable open-plan living room? Check. A modern kitchen? Check. Two stylish bedrooms? Check – one has an en-suite while the other can have full use of the second bathroom, making mornings a breeze. Elsewhere, you'll find a desk perfect for remote workers. When you're not kicking back at home, head out to Mercado Beira-Rio, or wander across the Luís I Bridge to visit Palacio da Bolsa.

Douro Dream

Right in the heart of the city, this central apartment is ideally suited for those looking to visit the top sights and cultural attractions. Due to the location, there's potential for noise here. Light sleepers may want to pack earplugs. You're right by Ribeira, with the waterfront's restaurants, bars and cafes just a short walk away. There's limited living space and the kitchen is only suitable for preparing light bites, but it's a good pick for solo travellers or couples. You'll notice the colourful decor that creates a welcoming home, while the exposed stone is a nice touch. Open up the shutters and invite the sounds of Porto into the apartment, as you relax after a busy day of sightseeing.

The Porto Spirit

This apartment in the very heart of Porto, just a five-minute walk from the Livraria Lello and Clerigos Church and Tower, is the ideal base for any group visiting the city. The private balcony boasts views of the cathedral and a seating area for enjoying a glass of Portuguese wine. Head inside to find a bright living space with a desk for home working and a small but fully equipped kitchen. Should you prefer to try the local offerings, you’re footsteps away from a fine selection of restaurants.


A Slice of Porto

Set in the heart of Porto, this apartment provides easy access to the historical marvels dotting the city – and when you want to travel further afield, the closest metro is a mere ten-minute walk. So, while this fuss-free home may not be filled with luxurious finishes, it’s all about the location for us. It’s a comfortable space for four people, just bear in mind that the second bedroom is an interior room, so lacks natural light. That said, we think this makes it a perfect spot for a restful, undisturbed sleep.
