This corner of the USA is famed for its resorts, but you’ll have a private one of your very own at this Scottsdale home. Part of a friendly community, outside the gates there’s enough shopping, food and golf to satisfy enthusiasts of any level. However, inside the doors of this remodelled hillside home, it's all about relaxation with a distinct luxe twist. The master bedroom, in particular, is a showstopper, with its red leather sofa, huge en-suite bathroom and floor-to-ceiling windows which make the most of the view of the desert, as well as the fuchsia bougainvillaea that border the entire house. There are two parts of this home we think will get repeat visits — the restaurant-quality indoor bar area that puts drinks cabinets masquerading as such to shame and the outdoor hot tub. Bring the two together — responsibly, of course — for an evening you won't forget in a long time.

At this home, a five-minute drive from Sedona, every detail is welcoming: from the stack of board games that beg to be used and the just-right number of cushions on the couches to the trickling stream on the lantern-filled patio. Inside, the living space is monochromatic. White-washed walls, sleek black accents, charcoal armchairs and polished chrome make for a sophisticated place to relax. While upstairs on the mezzanine level, it’s all earthier tones and textures – perfectly complementing the rugged, rust-red mountain vista that’s framed by the large glass doors. Get a closer look from one of three balconies or retreat to the hot tub for glimpses of the serrated peaks. A gourmet kitchen full of utensils calls for lengthy feasts alfresco – there’s no better way to end the evening than with toasting marshmallows over the fire pit. And by morning, if you’d like to let off some steam, you’ll find a number of walking trails close by. Marg’s Draw and Airport Mesa are a five-minute car ride away.

In fact, the problem may rest more with if you'll have enough time to try out all of the amenities on offer. Whether it's relaxing by the waterfall pool (with a water slide), unwinding in the jacuzzi or playing a game of tennis, foosball, ping pong, pickleball, basketball or mini-golf – you'll find something to enjoy before having even stepped foot inside. When you can tear yourself away from the glorious sunshine outside, prepare to be impressed by the impeccable soothing interiors which invite guests to relax in style through neutral colours and natural materials. With plenty of designated workspaces dotted around the home, you'll be able to balance work with play when staying here too. Once you've worked up an appetite, hire a private chef to come and cook for you in the state of the art kitchen – you'll have the choice of dining alfresco on the terrace or inside with a view of the garden from the formal dining area. We particularly appreciate the ultra-luxurious mattresses and bedding, ensuring a dreamy night's sleep they'll have you feeling refreshed and ready to discover the local hikes and desert trails in no time. Venture out to one of the many breathtaking and iconic Camelback trails in Scottsdale – Camelback mountain and Black Mountain are both around a thirty-minute drive away. With the Old Town, only fifteen minutes away and Downtown Phoenix, just twenty-five minutes away – lap up your own secluded slice of heaven without being too far away from the centre of town should you need it.

It’s a chic home spread across four floors – so you’ll need to be able to climb stairs to stay here – with a glorious rooftop terrace at its pinnacle. Mountain views and sunshine await on the terrace, while inside, you can look forward to a comfortable and stylish living and dining space, a well-equipped kitchen, and three attractive bedrooms. One bedroom is set up with a sofa bed and boasts a kitchenette, perfect for a couple seeking more privacy. The home is close to restaurants, bars, and shops. It comes with passes for a nearby resort, where you can swim and work out, and there are golf courses close by, too.

Pocono Mansion is the best of both worlds. Just a short walk to Scottsdale’s Old town and Fashion mall, as well as the Entertainment district, it has everything at your fingertips - but there’s plenty to keep you occupied at home too. Behind its immaculate lawn and large outdoor entertaining area, this elegant private estate complete with a guest house has large, floor-to-ceiling glass doors that seamlessly connect interior and exterior spaces, leaving you with every urge to take a dip in the private resort pool. In terms of our favourite spot inside, it's a tough call between the media room with your very own pool table or the library/wine room, but ask us in the morning and we might wax lyrical about the amazing master suite which offers one of the best views in the house.

Minutes from downtown Old Town, the Entertainment District, a choice of ten golf courses and multiple hiking options up and around Camelback Mountain, this newly renovated home is excellently located in the Old Town district of Scottsdale. Though it looks fairly simple from the exterior, this home has been recently renovated and the open-plan kitchen and living space feels fresh, modern and comfortable. The master bedroom is particularly enviable - we loved the love seat next to the bed - but guests should note that one of the bedrooms doubles as a children-oriented games room.

Desert Pool

If you’re searching for the ultimate party pad in Scottsdale, look no further – boasting a cutting-edge kitchen, private pool, fire pit and multiple outdoor seating areas, this North Scottsdale home is ideal for entertaining. With room for 16 people, it’s an excellent option for large family gatherings or groups of friends looking to spend some quality time. After heading out to play at the world-class TPC gold course golf courses or perhaps indulging in some retail therapy at Fashion Square Mall, return home to relax in the private spa area or get competitive with some yard games, which come included with the house.

With everything so close by, you can practically roll out of bed and into the heart of Scottsdale – shopping nirvana at Fashion Square and Kierland Commons, downtown Old Town and the Tournament Players Club, home of the Phoenix Open golfing tournament. The glorious green swathe of Chaparral Park, with its eponymous lake, is also within a few minutes’ walk. Fix yourself a strong espresso in the well-equipped kitchen before heading out to explore, or hang around the house for a day of poolside lounging and yard games. Should the weather turn – unlikely, as this is Arizona – there’s also a smart TV to stream anything you want.

Looking for the ultimate getaway for a large family? This fabulous home in sunny Scottsdale has something to impress everyone - even the impossible to please. First up there's the kitchen. It has all the high-spec equipment you need to create a banquet, plus room for a head-chef, sous-chef and diligent vegetable peeler/washer-upper without squabbles breaking out. The open-plan living room is elegant space, with a large flat-screen TV and L-shaped sofa big enough for small army of popcorn munching movie-watchers. The bedrooms are all individually designed, and we particularly love the children's room with its comfy bunk beds, blue-and-white teepee and pastel-coloured bean bags. Out in the garden there's a good-sized turquoise pool, plenty of games equipment (including small, moveable football goals for pool footie), a roaring fire pit and wicker hanging egg chairs. And if you can tear yourself away, this home is in the heart of Scottsdale, and the bars, restaurants, shops plus Scottsdale baseball stadium are all a short drive away.

Old Town Funk

With a number of cosy nooks to hang out in and communal areas leading out to the pool, Bronze Glow allows for moments of reflection, conversation and rejuvenation. Packed with yard games, an outdoor grill and a kitchen fit for chefs, there's plenty to keep you busy, yet what made our jaws drop was the fantastic location. Within a short drive, you can hop through at least nine sprawling golf courses and explore at length the shops, restaurants, casinos, cafes and nightlife opportunities in Old Town Scottsdale. With activities like hiking, biking and baseball, there's plenty of reason to pull yourself out the pool and get exploring.

Talking to Trees is a home to visit with the kids, especially if they love quick trips to the zoo and botanical gardens that end in board games by the poolside. The whole family will love days spent lounging by the communal pool, or visiting the local shops and restaurants. The bedrooms may not be too spacious, but there are plenty of other spots to hang out as a family.

On top of that, you're just a short way from Scottsdale's Old Town, which is always busy with vibrant restaurants and exciting bars. Baseball fans will also be happy to hear that the spring training stadium of Giants, Cubs and Diamondbacks is just a short drive away.

At A Splash of Colour, there's nothing your hosts haven't thought of to make your stay with them as exciting and luxurious as possible. Whether you want to spend your time splashing around in the pool, admiring the koi pond, practising your swing on the putting green, or sitting around the fire pit on long summer nights, there's something for everyone here. In fact, children will be absolutely delighted with the games room, outdoor swing set and plenty of space to run around and play. There's even a tortoise named Fred, whom guests can watch and feed vegetables to. To top it all off, you're brilliantly located to visit the area's many golf courses and wilderness areas.

This Phoenix home has some serious swimming pool game. The pool is fed by seven waterfalls and has won awards for its design. Taking a dip or soaking in the integrated hot tub is like sliding into a pool in a magical grotto, uplit at night. The yard is set up for all kinds of fun and games, with beach volleyball (bring your own ball), a basketball court, cornhole and a ping pong table by the pergola-covered bar. A gas grill can fuel sports tournaments long into the evening and a fire pit and chiminea provide a little warmth on cool desert nights. Practice on the putting green before hitting the real thing – there are world-class golf courses within an easy drive this home (like Stone Creek and Paradise Valley). The games continue inside, where a pool table awaits in the huge open-plan kitchen, dining and living room. After the excitement of gameplay all day, the bedrooms are a soothing medley of grey and white with big, comfy beds.

Filled with golf resorts, luxurious spas, and gorgeous homes like Pickle Ball, it's the kind of place that will help you kick back and switch into relaxation mode. This home has is centred around the open-plan kitchen, which is fit for a true chef and has everything you need to whip up the kinds of meals you never have time for at home. Enjoy the fruits of your labour alfresco, then lounge around the private pool that's perfect for splashing around in the heat. In the back garden, an alfresco patio awaits for those who like grilling, while the rest can enjoy drink or relax in the hammock. The weather is usually nice all year-round, but this shouldn't stop you from chilling indoors where you'll be surrounded by designer furniture and green views. In the evenings, get everyone together for a movie night in the luxurious living room and then retreat to the quiet bedrooms for a good night's sleep.

The interior design is effortlessly cool with a touch of desert luxury, and we particularly liked the well-equipped kitchen with a chic little breakfast bar. After a morning coffee, culture vultures can head to Scottsdale Arts District, while hikers can take a drive to the trails of McDowell Mountain Regional Park. Reconvene at one of Arcadia's cafés or restaurants to share stories about your adventures, before heading home to mix some drinks in the cocktail shaker and settle in for a movie night. 

A Phoenix Breeze

With its tilted roof and long, tall windows, you might not be surprised to discover that this unique house was designed by a secret celebrity architect. The designer, who has worked with none other than Jay-Z and Beyoncé, has filled this home with enough unique details to impress even the most discerning superstar. The high ceilings and monochrome colour scheme in the living area work perfectly with the minimalist furniture and statement lighting, while a gorgeous spiral staircase brings you to the upper level. The bedrooms are inspired by the works of Mark Rothko – simple yet elegant with blocks of bold colour. Outside, you'll find a private swimming pool which can be chilled to provide a refreshing dip during the hot Arizona days. Scottsdale Fashion Square and Old Town Scottsdale are just a few minutes drive away, but if you fancy nothing more than topping up your tan on a sun lounger, then this is just the place to do it – those mountain views are second to none.
