Swap the bustle of downtown LA for the calm of the Altadena hills at this palatial Californian home. Calling out for a family holiday or extended working trip, expect a private pool and Jacuzzi, countless high-style living spaces, a playroom, a primary bedroom with a private sitting room – and the list goes on. Like with most homes in the LA hills, you’ll need a car when it’s time to get out and about, as there’s little within walking distance from here. Make the nearby Echo Mountain trail your first port of call; it’s just a short drive away. Or chase the buzz of downtown LA – just a half-hour drive.

Mountain Jewel

Just moments from the vibrant heart of Hollywood, this Spanish-style home offers a refreshing city sanctuary. Inside, the rooms are a minimalist’s haven. Each of the bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom, and there is plenty of space across the living room for social gatherings. Outside, there’s a swimming pool, a spa and integrated speakers – setting the tone for magical dinner parties. Plus, you won’t have to go far to experience the magic of LA – from here it’s a short walk to The Grove, while West Hollywood is within easy driving distance. 


Song of Living 

Even though this is a studio apartment, we are blown away by the amount of space. The kitchen is well stocked and provides an attractive space for guests to enjoy their morning coffee or a bowl of cereal. Situated in one of LA’s coolest new neighbourhoods, this pocket of Silverlake is quiet and residential, yet it is in close proximity to great parks, shops, restaurants and a trendy, but low-key nightlife scene. Staying here will give guests a truly local experience. 

Sun of a Gun

Elegant hardwood floors, mid-century-inspired design and plenty of windows to allow that year-round SoCal sunshine to flood in – there's so much to love about this enchanting single-storey home. The best part? The fact that you're in the middle of the city and yet surrounded by beautifully maintained gardens filled with fragrant citrus and pine trees.

An adobe-style shell gives way to a clean white interior that's an absolute delight to spend time in. Equipped with an inviting corner sofa, seating for six around the dinner table and a hidden nook for those needing to fire off some emails, the home strikes a perfect balance for those in town for work and play. And if no one's expecting to hear from you during your downtime? All the better.

The creative enclave of Los Feliz is one of the city's coolest spots. From local independent boutiques to tempting brunch spots and morning hikes through Griffith Park – everything is within walking distance of your front door. In addition, Beach lovers can venture to the coast by private or public transport – Santa Monica's storied pier is 20 miles away, while the endless golden stretches of Malibu are a little over forty minutes from your home.

Lemons in Los Angeles

This adorable two-level cottage is located between two parks and is a great, affordable base for a family or group of friends wanting to explore nearby China Town and lively Echo Park. It's definitely not the most luxurious or spacious home on our books, but it's got lots of charm and is a lovely, calming space to return to after a day out in the city. We love all the houseplants, textile rugs and stylish abstract art on the walls. 

Fig Leaf Cottage

High in the Silver Lake hills, on one of those iconic, winding, steep roads that LA does so well, this modern home is a perfect choice if you want a room with a view. Comfortable and stylish, it's got a great location and everything you could need to feel right at home. An open-plan layout makes the living space sociable, while the huge picture windows offer views at every turn. Snuggle up on the leather sofa in front of the fireplace, or sit out on one of the terraces – you've got three to choose from (as the name suggests) and from here you can barbecue with views over the city and the San Gabriel mountains. Bedrooms are cosy and well-styled, with plenty of industrial and salvaged design details – plus the all-important comfy beds. Here you'll be just a ten-minute drive from Hollywood, with Koreatown, Downtown LA and more within easy reach.  And after a day exploring the nearby attractions, enjoy a long soak in the outdoor hot tub. 


Triple Decker

Design enthusiasts will love this striking home, conceived in Spanish Revival style by star architect Paul Williams. Built in 1929, this three-bedroom home combines characterful design elements such as wooden ceiling beams and moorish tiling with luxurious touches: think a private hot tub, a restaurant-quality ‘La Canche’ French stove and an enchanting bedroom set in its very own tower – Rapunzel, eat your heart out. Nestled within a gated community in the tranquil San Rafael Hills, this home is a fifteen-minute drive from charming Pasadena and closer still to the iconic Rose Bowl Stadium, making it the perfect choice for fans of American football. After a day exploring all that Los Angeles has to offer, cook up a feast on the state-of-the-art grill and savour your handiwork alfresco on the terrace, before finishing the day with a soak in the clawfoot bathtub or sipping a beer in the hot tub.

Spanish Revival Mansion

Smoked Brass is a bit of an all-around gem. Dating back to the 1920s, it's designed as a space to live in rather than an art installation to be admired as such. Sophisticated yet cosy interiors present a comfortable space that combines contemporary style with classic furnishings throughout the home. We particularly love the cottage-like grid windows that add a touch of the English countryside to this Californian mid-century home. With flora and fauna aplenty, the garden offers a sanctuary of peace and serenity and, importantly – privacy. And while pools aren't uncommon in these parts of the city, this one is particularly delightful. Spend your days sipping iced coffee on the day beds, with the option to take a relaxing dip, should the California sunshine with heat. The local area of Pasadena offers different prospects to some of L.A's glitzier areas as it is generally a much quieter and more residential area. However, with everything you need within walking distance (if not a quick drive out), this place serves as a dreamy 'escape' from the city while still only a half an hour drive away from Hollywood and Downtown L.A. 


Smoked Brass

Beautifully blending traditional with contemporary, this LA home is an ideal base for a family or group of friends on an American adventure. With three separate living rooms, there’s plenty of space to spread out here – although we think you’ll be naturally drawn to the outdoor space. With a heated pool, hot tub, sun-drenched terraces and alfresco dining areas, there’s so much to love here. And did we mention the mountain views and glimpses of Los Angeles in the distance? Locally, you can get your fitness fix hiking the nearby trails, or hop in the car to visit Griffith Observatory, a must-see in the area.

Scarlet Dusk

Whether you’re staying in West Hollywood for work or leisure, this charming contemporary home will welcome you in with open arms. This villa-style home in the Hollywood Hills has been designed with entertaining in mind. There are two living rooms to choose from – a formal lounge and a dedicated movie room. The chef’s kitchen has all your culinary needs taken care of and there’s plenty of room for the group to gather in the dining room. Glass doors lead from here to the patio where a state-of-the-art barbecue and gas fire pit await. The piece de resistance is the rooftop terrace where you can spot the Hollywood sign in the distance. 

The Allview House

Built in 1926, this authentic Spanish-style home has been lovingly transformed into a serene Hollywood sanctuary. Style conscious travellers will love the interiors, while everyone can enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings. There is also a swimming pool, a hot tub, a barbecue and an indoor fire – perfect for cosy evenings at home. Located in the iconic Beechwood Canyon, it’s just a short drive into the heart of Hollywood and you’ll also find the Griffith Observatory within easy reach.
