If you fancy getting active, take a hike up to the peaks, or hop on the aerial tramway to avoid breaking a sweat – either way, you'll be treated to jaw-dropping views over Coachella Valley. Come home for a sundowner on the terrace, before stretching out on the curved green sofas with a classic Hollywood movie.

Surrounded by ten acres of stunning desert landscape in the Yucca Valley, this remarkable net-zero energy home really is the epitome of a secluded getaway. It’s been profiled in Dwell Magazine as well as on countless high-end websites, and you can immediately see why. With glass sliding doors in each room inviting you to step out into the wild beauty outside, there’s a seamless flow between indoors and outdoors making this home feel completely at one with the Mojave Desert. We love the balcony equipped with a sun chair – accessed via the master bedroom and living room – and the outdoor shower that will get any morning off to a refreshing start. Spend the day hiking around your sun-drenched house, taking in the majesty of the ancient junipers, weathered boulders, desert oaks and piñon pines, or hop in your car to visit Joshua Tree National Park, just a twenty-minute drive away. After a day of adventuring, come back home for drinks around the fire pit before firing up the barbecue for an alfresco feast. Then end the night with a soak in the hot tub while you watch the night sky turn into a blanket of shimmering stars. 

The Graham Residence

Surrounded by rocky mountains and swaying palms, this pet-friendly villa feels like your own private resort. Inside, whitewashed walls, vaulted ceilings, an open fireplace and light-filled spaces create a stylish backdrop for relaxation, gathering, or entertaining. A cosy casita offers extra privacy for those who want a retreat within a retreat. But it’s the backyard that steals the show — think a resort-style pool, hot tub, firepit, and multiple spots for dining beneath the desert sky. And when you’re ready for a change of scene, the lively shops, restaurants, and nightlife of Palm Canyon Drive are just a short stroll away.

Rock Star

When architect, Malek Alqadi combined astute environmentalism with his exquisite taste, he didn't just create this home, he sparked a revolution in sustainable tourism. Set on the edge of the Joshua Tree National Park, guests take the lead in operating this clean yet luxurious off-grid space. Think serious stargazing sessions through a telescope, showering by a boulder, and falling asleep under the desert sky with a crackling fireplace at your feet—the second bedroom is open to the elements, with no walls or ceiling. And it's packed with technology too. You can measure your energy consumption, change your light settings and set cooling and heating temperatures of the space. Wrapped in salvaged weathering steel and up-cycled details, it raises the bar on stylish, conscious travel.

Desert Saga

A hilltop cabin in a unique area of the desert, this place is nestled on its own between Pioneertown and Yucca Valley on what feels like the scenic drive through Joshua Tree National Park. The trees, rocks, and landscape just outside the doors are just as breathtaking as anything you would see in the park, except you have them all to yourself. 

There’s a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on those chill nights, while one of your musically talented friends can play a tune on the grand piano (though there’s also a Bluetooth sound system, for convenience). On the walls, you’ll find original art by the late Gerald Zeldin, and an interior so impressive it was featured in the NY Times fashion section. You can feel the history of this old mining cabin in the wood-beamed ceiling and clapboard (yet modern)  bathroom. Picture-frame windows let the sunlight stream into this boho-chic interior and let you gaze out over the endless desert before you.

This place is totally off-grid and once you’ve experienced the unique feeling of heating the outdoor hot tub with firewood as you gaze at the stars, there’s no going back.

Ranch Of The Rising Sun

Just steps from the sand in Santa Barbara’s West Beach, this three-bedroom townhouse puts you right in the middle of it all – State Street, the Funk Zone, the pier, and the harbor are all an easy stroll away. But it’s not just about location here –  the interior is just as noteworthy. Spread out across three levels, you’ll have plenty of space to relax—whether that’s in the open living area, the private third-floor patio, or soaking in the master’s deep bathtub. Meanwhile, beach chairs, towels, and a pack-and-play are included, so you can skip the extra packing and start enjoying your Santa Barbara stay from day one.

Santa Barbara Oasis

If you’ve ever dreamed of life in 1960s Palm Springs, you’re probably not alone. This original Alexander Company home, in the shade of the San Jacinto Mountains, couldn't be more period SoCal if it tried. The outside space is stunning, with a pool, lawns and patios, and a Bocce court – all screened with hedging. Perhaps most impressive are the stunning view of the mountains towering over the home. Inside, the open layout makes it perfect for hosting a family get-together. Built in 1960, it's been restored but has kept all its character. You'll find vaulted tongue and groove ceilings, entire walls of glass doors and carefully chosen mid-century furnishings. And if you get bored of staying in, there’s all the Coachella Valley to explore, with various golf courses, hiking opportunities, shops and museums.

Mountain Shadows

It doesn’t get more Palm Springs than this mid-century home where mountain views meet retro design. By day, lounge beneath fringed umbrellas with a drink in hand, drift between the saltwater pool and spa, or play games on the lawn. As the sun dips, light the fire pit and watch the desert sky turn pink and gold. Inside, velvet sofas, a Sputnik chandelier, and a record player set the mood for evenings with friends. Just minutes from downtown, this home captures the timeless glamour and easy rhythm that make Palm Springs so irresistible.

Stardust Poolhouse

Experience the history of old town, La Quinta first hand at this casita complex. The protected indoor/outdoor dining space with white-wash walls, wicker lampshades and Mexican blankets paint a scene out of an old western. A private pool and spa is shared between the two casitas for families and friends to come together for some fun in the sun, or an evening barbecue. Bikes are also available should you want to make a short cycle to the shops and restaurants of La Quinta. Inside, the rustic white walls, exposed beams and wooden flooring continue the historic feel. Though the sleek, stainless steel appliances in the otherwise rustic kitchen are distinctly 21st-century, there is no escaping the old-world charm of this place. Having said that, no one is leaving you totally disconnected, with modern comforts of wifi, Apple TV, and bluetooth sound systems. It is up to you whether you want to switch off here. Old or new, this is the best of both.  

Cactus Rose

Blueberry Flapjack is particularly kind to groups of friends and families who have an athletic streak and love the outdoors. With the Indian Wells Tennis Garden an eight-minute drive away, and a golf course within sight, it's safe to say your adrenaline will be pumping throughout. This newly remodelled home sits on the fairway, and is a two-minute walk from the community pool. 

When you’re not swimming in the pool or working up a sweat, you’ll revel in the peaceful vibe of this lovely home. The beds are oh-so-comfortable so you’re guaranteed a great night’s sleep, and there are plenty of cosy corners for you to curl up in during the day. You’ll love the open-plan dining and living space, where you can lounge together watching movies and eat breakfast at the counter. 

If you want to get in a little retail therapy, the excellent shopping scene of El Paseo is thirteen minutes away by car. Downtown La Quinta is fourteen minutes away, and is the perfect shout for dining out and soaking up the atmosphere. 


Blueberry Flapjack

There's something special about desert light, and this captivating Joshua Tree retreat is the perfect place to observe it. The sunsets are visible from the outdoor Jacuzzi or cooling cowboy tub, while the mirrored dome in the garden was designed with stargazing in mind. It's clear as soon as you arrive that your hosts, Cherish and Ramon, have put a lot of effort into the interiors of the home, and they've bestowed it with a certain rustic desert charm that's hard to pinpoint. Of course, it doesn't hurt that you can step directly out onto the deck in the cool of the morning and watch the desert critters scurrying around before they're forced to retreat from the heat of the day. If you want to head off for the day, the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only two miles away, your gateway to almost 800,000 acres of mystic desert. Your hosts also provide two eclectic bikes that you can use to pedal your way across the desert.
