Those who see being described as 'meticulous' as something to be proud of will adore this three-storey home in San Diego's North Park neighbourhood. Every component has been thoughtfully considered, from the manicured gardens upon entrance and the colourful modern furniture in the living room, to the sleek kitchen bathed in natural light from the windows running along one wall. Even the exterior is pleasing to look at, the clean lines and black panelling making it stand out as a pillar of modernity in the locale. That being said, you won't feel as if you're in a showroom, thanks to the bountiful amount of space dedicated to relaxation — our favourite has to be the balcony on the first floor that puts you at tree-top level. The location is superb, too. Balboa Park — which holds San Diego Zoo — can be reached in under fifteen minutes on foot, while you can drive to Coronado Beach in ten minutes.

When it comes to Afternoon Delight, it's all about the location. Boasting delightful views over San Diego Bay, the home is just three blocks from India Street in the centre of Little Italy, where a vast range of wonderful restaurants await your visit. On top of that, Balboa Park, San Diego Zoo, Hillcrest and Downtown are all within walking distance, so you really won't be running out of things to do and see. Your stay here may seem to fly by as you while the days away on Newport Avenue uncovering unique pieces at vintage stores or people-watching in one of the many coffee shops. It’s also a short drive from downtown San Diego if you’re craving city life, or you can get your nature fix exploring the scenic coastal paths.

Head out the door of this immaculate beach house and you’ll find yourself just seconds away from the golden sands of Mission Beach. Inside, the cool coastal palette reflects the dreamy beachfront location, with accents of driftwood and natural rattan, and there are excellent views of the ocean from the large sun deck. Be the first to bag a spot on the sand and set up camp for the day – the host supplies beach chairs, boogie boards and towels so you’ll be well equipped. That said, you’re so close that you can easily zip back for a forgotten umbrella or some sun cream. If you’re a thrill-seeker, hop on one of the supplied beach cruisers and ride the half mile down the front to Belmont Park’s Big Dipper. As the sun starts to dip in the sky, de-sand the kids ahead of pre-dinner drinks on the outdoor sofa. There’s a barbecue, and the sleek kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, but if you’d rather somebody else did the work, then you’re within walking distance of Mission Beach’s colourful restaurants and cafes.

The fireplace is great for colder nights where you can enjoy takeout around the fire before playing a round of Monopoly. We’re sure the Californian sun will tempt you outside, but if a cosy evening is calling your name, the soothing coastal decor and sumptuous leather sofas serve the ideal spot for family movie nights. 
In need of some ‘me–time’? The balcony deck nestled between the two bedrooms on the first floor was made for quiet moments spent watching the world go by, or with your head buried deep in the pages of a good book. 
For a full day of fun, games and brightly–lit arcades, make a beeline for Belmont Park, just a ten–minute walk away. Alternatively, if you feel like showing off your sporty side, head to the seafront courts for a game of beach volleyball.

Although this home sits directly opposite San Diego's famous Mission Bay, there are plenty of perks at the address to stop you from immediately fleeing to the boardwalks and beaches.

The swimming pool and adjoining spa are glorious spots in which to enjoy the SoCal summers, while there's also an alfresco table under a parasol as well as a cabana with an impressively equipped outdoor kitchen whenever you're in need of a little shade. Add to that a rooftop terrace that offers glorious waterfront views, as well as a couple of balconies for good measure, and you've got an address in which you barely need to head inside.

That being said, you won't be disappointed when you finally get around to doing just that. The large glass windows let in plenty of sunshine and also look out to views of leafy palm trees. We're big fans of the sleek kitchen and equally stylish bathrooms, including one with a steam shower.

There may come a point when you fancy seeing a little more of the local area and Mission Bay sits literally just around the corner, offering plentiful opportunities for swimming and watersports. The centre of San Diego and Balboa Park both take a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, too.

Though it's not the biggest space, the floor plan has been cleverly designed to include a cool dining nook and plush living area, and a quick slide of the glazed frontage makes the space immediately double in size. With the soft, powdery sand of the beach literally on your doorstep, we doubt you'll want to go far. But if you do, you'll find an array of shops, restaurants and bars just a stone's throw away.

Steps away from the water, Briarford can offer you all the delights of the San Diego seaside. There are all sorts of activities to keep you busy, from paddle-boarding in the bay to hopping on a sailing boat, or just having a cocktail under the shade of the trees in the garden. The interior is comfortable, with decent amenities, but honestly, this home is all about the location, and on that front, it’s hard to beat.
