But the truth is, you may never want to leave as this place was designed for entertaining. The entire, high-ceilinged basement level is dedicated to hedonism, with a cocktail bar, wine vaults and home theatre. A gym and steam room mean you can keep up your exercise schedule between indulgences. There are plenty more places for the group to spread out – in the grand lounge by the fireplace, in the sunny reading room in the garden, or the family snug around the TV. If work calls, there’s an executive-style study with everything you need in a personal office, and there’s even a separate study space for kids with computers, a blackboard and a writing desk. The home’s courtyard is a fabulous set-up up, with a heated salt-water swimming pool at its centre and loads of seating space to enjoy a tipple or full meal outside. This is one super cool coastal pad. We love the stylish and laid-back design of this home that its surfer owners have lovingly crafted. Your hosts' personality really comes through elements such as the wall-mounted clock collection, the reclaimed wood wardrobe doors and the self-build spirit on show in the jungle garden. Here, they've repurposed corrugated steel panels to divide the space, built homemade garden furniture and even managed to fit in an artist studio caravan. There's even a fire pit for cosy evenings. The standout feature has got to be its proximity to gorgeous Venice Beach, an easy fifteen-minute amble away. Surf's up, so what are you waiting for!

This classic Venice bungalow is all about those Californian good vibes. We absolutely love how the home's design blurs the lines between indoors and outdoors. The living room opens up to a small terrace by way of a disappearing glass wall, making for a tranquil space that allows you to savour the fresh air from the comfort of your cosy sofa. When you get the urge to explore your local area, a short stroll will take you to the Abbot Kinney Boulevard strip where you’ll find a range of trendy boutiques and buzzy restaurants.

Sweeping views await at this penthouse apartment. It's perched right by the water in Marina Del Rey, and thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls, you'll be treated to non-stop ocean vistas no matter the time of day. A private balcony is ideal for alfresco sundowners and watching the hustle and bustle of the marina. Head inside, and you can lounge in the bright living area or gaze further afield with the telescope. There are a few quirks here, though. The main bedroom is open to the living space below, and the blinds don't block out the sunlight. But, with Venice Beach a five-minute drive away and panoramas aplenty, it's an excellent option for a getaway on the coast.

Your host has made great use of small nooks and inaccessible corners to create mini sanctuaries within the larger seating area and by the doors into the courtyard garden. Wooden floors, jute rugs and an abundance of greenery all contribute to creating that all-important connection with nature and making you feel at peace.

Explore the neighbourhood, and you'll find any number of fabulous cafes, bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Local standouts include Felix Trattoria and Plant Food + Wine, both just a few minutes away on foot. You're about a half-mile from the shore and the famed Venice Skatepark facing the ocean if you head towards the coast. Head to a rooftop bar to take in the vistas while sipping a cocktail in the balmy weather - the ideal way to cap off a beautiful day.

This hilltop marvel is a museum of antiquities where you can find bronze statues relaxing in gardens and pools, and admire over forty thousand items in the collection. To end the day, take a fifteen-minute taxi to Santa Monica Pier – with funfairs and classic eateries, it’s worth staying until long after sunset.

This Palisades pad has it all – bright, modern interiors, stunning Pacific Ocean views, and a great location, too. It's practically next door to the Getty Villa, and it's just a ten-minute walk down to Ratner Beach and a short car ride to the iconic Santa Monica Pier – doesn't get much better than that. 

Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows show off the sweeping scenery and rolling tides, while the breezy living space is perfect for socialising. Throw open the doors and you'll hear the waves crashing on the shore – it's the perfect soundtrack to your stay, whether you're lounging on the L-shaped sofa or tucking into a delicious meal around the dining table. The sleek, granite-topped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a delicious feast and the stylish bedrooms are ultra-comfortable. That said, our favourite spot to relax has to be the balcony. Savour your morning cup of coffee with a side of fresh sea air, then, in the evenings, pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy a front-row seat to some truly incredible sunsets on the water. If you ask us, this is California living at its finest.

Even though this home has a bit of a New England feel to it, once you step outside, you will be in no doubt that it's in Santa Monica. It’s on a hidden walkway off the main road — which gives it a sense of privacy — and the beach is only two minutes' walk away. The Pier and Muscle Beach only takes ten on foot, too. Back inside, the interior has been designed to feel beachy but in a way you’d associate more with the East Coast — think vaulted ceilings, fireplaces and soft pastels. The huge kitchen will be a highlight for those with culinary talents and if the weather's nice — which we're going to wager it will be — you can serve up dinner outside on the private patio. Better still, there's a barbecue for grilling up some meaty flavours to grateful guests.

You’ll feel at ease as soon as you arrive, thanks to its high-end furnishings and unique artwork. Begin mindful mornings in the meditation room as the professional-grade coffee machine warms up in the well-appointed kitchen. And when you’re ready for breakfast, come together at the velvet dining nook for a bite to eat. On sunny afternoons, while away the hours in the tranquil outside space. Sway with the breeze on the hanging couch or unwind in the private hot tub. If you’d like to stretch your legs, you’ll find the fashionable Abbot Kinney Boulevard a twelve-minute walk away. Better still, the iconic Venice Beach is a twenty-two-minute stroll from your doorstep – or a six-minute bike ride – your host has left two beach cruisers at the abode for you to use.
