This is a show-stopping Tuscan villa is in the heart of Santa Monica. It’s just a ten-minute walk in either direction to the beach or downtown. But the truth is, you may never want to leave as this place was designed for entertaining. The entire, high-ceilinged basement level is dedicated to hedonism, with a cocktail bar, wine vaults and home theatre. A gym and steam room mean you can keep up your exercise schedule between indulgences. There are plenty more places for the group to spread out – in the grand lounge by the fireplace, in the sunny reading room in the garden, or the family snug around the TV. If work calls, there’s an executive-style study with everything you need in a personal office, and there’s even a separate study space for kids with computers, a blackboard and a writing desk. The home’s courtyard is a fabulous set-up up, with a heated salt-water swimming pool at its centre and loads of seating space to enjoy a tipple or full meal outside. It’s hard to top this home for luxury in Santa Monica.

This chic home in Santa Monica will have you unwinding in no time with its relaxed Californian vibe of whitewashed walls, surfboards and natural finishes. There’s a couple of living spaces to spread out in – perfect for family or friends. The star of the show, though, is the garden – we adore it. There’s a barbecue, a badminton net, a pavilion, and an enormous lawn to have fun on. There’s a zen calm to the home, where a Baddha stands in prayer and sprouting grass adds a touch of natural green to the living room. Though you’re on the edge of the city here, big windows show off a view of trees. There’s a quiet little roof terrace, where greenery creeps over the wall and two comfy chairs provide the perfect cocktail spot. Up the spiral staircase, both bedrooms are decorated in the ink-black and parchment white of Japanese zen and the master has a desk in the sunny window.

Los Angeles is renowned as being one of the most exciting cities in the world and this apartment reflects the style and swagger that happens beyond its four walls.

As well as enjoying copious amounts of natural light from the windows, there's a sleek glamour to the interior design, with a tasteful selection of furnishings and light fixtures, plus a kitchen that's gleamingly bright and a treat to cook in – providing you actually enjoy cooking, obviously. The balcony off the living room offers both somewhere to cool off on warm afternoons and a view of palm trees and local rooftops, while you also have the option of hunkering down next to the fireplace during the cooler months.

You might be happy to hear that the local neighbourhood is pretty quiet, but there are livelier parts not too far away – ten minutes in the car will get you either to Santa Monica Beach or the refined streets of Beverly Hills in the other direction.

Dating back to the 1920s the home echoes the bohemian nature of the neighbourhood, with an authentic, laid-back feel and an eclectic mix of vintage furniture. Inside, there are period features like the pretty arched window and the wood floor, along with a fully equipped kitchen and two bedrooms. But it's the garden that's the real selling point here. Green, secluded and quirky in its own uniquely Venice way, it's a place to escape with your friends and family. Eat at the outdoor dining table, light the fire pit and sit out under the string lights at night. In the morning, grab one of the home's bikes and cycle down to the beach, or bring your boards and head out for a day surfing. A converted garage provides an extra studio bedroom for two in the garden, which can be rented along with the main house. Even though this home has a bit of a New England feel to it, once you step outside, you will be in no doubt that it's in Santa Monica. It’s on a hidden walkway off the main road — which gives it a sense of privacy — and the beach is only two minutes' walk away. The Pier and Muscle Beach only takes ten on foot, too. Back inside, the interior has been designed to feel beachy but in a way you’d associate more with the East Coast — think vaulted ceilings, fireplaces and soft pastels. The huge kitchen will be a highlight for those with culinary talents and if the weather's nice — which we're going to wager it will be — you can serve up dinner outside on the private patio. Better still, there's a barbecue for grilling up some meaty flavours to grateful guests.

Set aback from the hustle and bustle of the more popular Venice neighbourhoods, this charming home provides a peaceful stay in a residential area, while still being a short drive or bike ride away from the beach. This Rustic Canyon home is stunning. It’s perfectly placed on a corner lot close to State Beach and Rustic Canyon Park, making it ideal for those wanting to enjoy the Great Outdoors. There are manicured gardens and an expansive rooftop deck, where there’s an outdoor fireplace and plenty of room for socialising. The grounds also feature a striking architectural tree house with a seating area and an office. Inside, you’ll find hardwood floors and beamed wooden ceilings. The bedrooms are elegant and tranquil, and the informal living and family room make this a great choice for those travelling with children.

This Venice home is an absolute delight. The proportions and layout are lovely, it's flooded with natural light, has great eco-credentials and it has a private and peaceful outdoor space. Stylishly decorated with a mid-century modern feel, and just a five-minute drive away from the beach, this place is pretty easy to love. Its recent redesign has made it sustainable – there's solar power and an osmosis water filtration system – and created a guesthouse we'd be thrilled to call home for a while. Sit in front of the gas flame fireplace, rustle up a meal in the kitchen (it's a bit retro but we love it) and sit out under the stars in your pretty garden – the soothing sound of the water feature will soon have you ready for bed. Just a short drive or a thirty-minute walk from the beach, you'll probably be heading down there most days. Santa Monica is very close by and it's just a twenty-five-minute drive from Hollywood. You'll also be able to stroll to some of the best bars and restaurants in LA on Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Rose Avenue.

You’ll feel at ease as soon as you arrive, thanks to its high-end furnishings and unique artwork. Begin mindful mornings in the meditation room as the professional-grade coffee machine warms up in the well-appointed kitchen. And when you’re ready for breakfast, come together at the velvet dining nook for a bite to eat. On sunny afternoons, while away the hours in the tranquil outside space. Sway with the breeze on the hanging couch or unwind in the private hot tub. If you’d like to stretch your legs, you’ll find the fashionable Abbot Kinney Boulevard a twelve-minute walk away. Better still, the iconic Venice Beach is a twenty-two-minute stroll from your doorstep – or a six-minute bike ride – your host has left two beach cruisers at the abode for you to use.

Occupying a plum spot in Pacific Palisades – home to celebrities, influencers and other affluent types – this five-bedroom apartment suits a large family group. Fluffy pampas grass, leather chairs and navy cabinets make this an eclectic take on the farmhouse style, with a long dining table providing the perfect setting for games night. Heading out? A spare, industrial-style vanity is a stylish setting for your toilette – one of the sinks has three taps, so there'll be no fighting for space. Jump into the free-standing tub that sits right in the window.  An office corner comes with plenty of space for storing papers and files, should you need to catch up on work. Wind down in your minimalist bedroom with a light read.

This Palisades pad has it all – bright, modern interiors, stunning Pacific Ocean views, and a great location, too. It's practically next door to the Getty Villa, and it's just a ten-minute walk down to Ratner Beach and a short car ride to the iconic Santa Monica Pier – doesn't get much better than that. 

Inside, floor-to-ceiling windows show off the sweeping scenery and rolling tides, while the breezy living space is perfect for socialising. Throw open the doors and you'll hear the waves crashing on the shore – it's the perfect soundtrack to your stay, whether you're lounging on the L-shaped sofa or tucking into a delicious meal around the dining table. The sleek, granite-topped kitchen has everything you need to cook up a delicious feast and the stylish bedrooms are ultra-comfortable. That said, our favourite spot to relax has to be the balcony. Savour your morning cup of coffee with a side of fresh sea air, then, in the evenings, pull up a chair, pour yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy a front-row seat to some truly incredible sunsets on the water. If you ask us, this is California living at its finest.

Head to a rooftop bar to take in the vistas while sipping a cocktail in the balmy weather - the ideal way to cap off a beautiful day.

A contemporary home with a seventies soul, this house just fifteen minutes from Venice Beach presents a stylish space to kick back in between exploring the sights of both Los Angeles and Santa Monica. 

Mid-century furnishings and bohemian designs are featured in an open plan layout, creating a sociable and stylish main living area and kitchen that overlooks the gorgeous garden. 

It's this leafy green setting that we particularly love about this home, where you'll find citrus trees, a swaying hammock and a laid-back lounge area – perfect for chilling out with a glass of Californian wine in hand. With a barbecue, fire pit and ping pong table to enjoy, you could easily spend long summer evenings in this haven of peace. 

If you do feel like venturing out, drive down to Venice beach to catch the sunset and a bite to eat, or better still, why not explore Santa Monica on two wheels? There's plenty of bike storage space if you decide to rent or bring your own bikes here.

The open living area is bathed in natural light thanks to floor-to-ceiling sliding doors that pull back to reveal a private balcony with neighbourhood views and the alluring scent of the Pacific. We fell in love with this home based on the location alone, even before crossing the threshold. Just a stone's throw from the beach, you can easily jump in the ocean before breakfast. You're conveniently located just one block from Main St, where you'll find indie boutiques, charming cafes and Michelin-recognised restaurants. The home itself is equally breathtaking – we adore the double-height living space with a sea view. It's exceptionally stylish, brimming with character. The amount of art hanging on the walls would put some galleries to shame. It's definitely a home that makes you want to know its owners – a truly unique place to stay and one that's ready for its Instagram close-up.
