This Victorian-style home caught our eye for its great location in the heart of Noe Valley. San Francisco’s iconic cable car runs just in front of the building to whisk you away to all the famous tourist spots, and you’ve got 24th Street, with its bakeries, cafes, and cheese and wine shops, on your doorstep. And when you’re not busy sightseeing, you can relax on the private, sunny balcony or enjoy a meal around the ten-seater dining table. While babies and teenagers are welcome here, the home isn’t suitable for children aged 2 to 12.

As you arrive at this quintessentially San Franciscan Victorian house, its ornate wooden exterior and stairs invite you inside. Located in Noe Valley (a family-friendly area right by the Mission District and Castro) you can’t help but feel at home from the offset. The interiors feel warm, plush, and playful. We love how some of the pieces play on transitional versus modern – the wire-sculpted moose head above the fireplace, and an angular chandelier in the lounge, alongside original paintings and photography prints. The living spaces are all connected, leading outdoors to decking and a leafy garden. Start the morning out here with the free weights or on the yoga mat like a true Californian. After lunch, pop on the record player or have a tinkle on the piano by the beautiful windows. For the little ones, you’ve got your very own playroom filled with kids toys and books. For a day out, gather the family and head twenty minutes up Twin Peaks for spectacular views of the city. About twenty minutes in the other direction will take you into the Mission. Get a babysitter (your host can help you out with recommendations) and head out for wine bars, excellent restaurants, and perhaps a cocktail to round off the evening.

Vintage vibes continue through to the well-equipped kitchen and the characterful bedrooms, where a combination of floral and maritime themes add some old-world charm.

The jagged coastline caters to a whole range of visitors, from surfers who like to ride the bay's impressive waves to photographers keen on catching the beautiful light. Or go for a hike on Shelter Cove Beach, a six-minute stroll away. There's an array of surf shops and some fantastic local eateries on your doorstep too. For a more action-packed day trip, San Francisco and all it has to offer is just a twenty-five-minute drive from this home. Chic, coastal-inspired interiors, polished concrete floors, and vast windows make it a delight to stay here. We love the vistas over Pedro Point from the living room and balcony – enjoy a glass of Californian rosé wine while enjoying the views. Later whip up a Clam Chowder in the kitchen before relaxing on the comfy sofa – this place is all about unwinding.

Windows look out over greenery and treetops at this tranquil Oakland home. The exposed timber ceiling and raw wood accents are in keeping with the apartment’s natural surroundings up in the hills on the edge of Oakland. The treetop view takes centre stage in the living room, where an arched window sits like a picture frame on a pristine white wall, and the Cathedral-style ceiling gives the feeling of a grand space. Located in the town of Kensington amid the Berkeley Hills, this home provides a great base for a family looking to explore California’s coast. It’s a lived-in family home and some of the rooms may appear a little messy, but it has plenty to keep you entertained. There are lots of books and games here for the kids and when it’s the right season, you can pick fruit and vegetables in the front garden. Kensington’s small centre has a few shops and café, but if you’re looking for more hustle and bustle you can catch the commuter bus to vibrant San Francisco.

There’s an unmistakably bohemian vibe to this character home outside Oakland. With acoustic guitars on the walls, sprawling houseplants and sixties style bedspreads, it’s the kind of place where creativity rules. There are two good sized bedrooms, plus an extra ‘yoga room’ for reading, contemplation, and self-care.
