Light upon the Lake is just a short walk from Tahoe City, one of the most popular locations on Lake Tahoe. Famous for its beautiful views of the lake, easy access to tonnes of hiking and mountain biking trails, and plenty of great restaurants and funky bars, this location is one that caters to all. 

Light Upon The Lake

Nestled just a few blocks from the centre of Palo Alto, with the shops, restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance, this pleasant spot also puts you within easy reach of sought-after locations such as Silicon Valley Baylands Nature Reserve. 

Packed with heaps of original charm, this charming home has been brought up to ultra-modern standards to ensure comfort and practicality without compromising on character. High ceilings and beautifully-finished living spaces present seating areas, office spaces and the central kitchen and dining area in an airy and relaxing environment. 

Meanwhile, the garden setting presents an equally blissful ambience to unwind among the lemon, peach and apple trees. Feel free to pick fruit from the trees when ripe, and the host welcomes you to select tomatoes and herbs from the vegetable patch if you're keen to rustle up some homemade cooking delights. 


Under the Fruit Trees 

This comfortable North Lake Tahoe home couldn't be better placed to enjoy the lake in the summer and surrounding mountains during the colder months. Watercraft rentals are available to pick up literally seconds away - plus there's access to a private part of the beach with fire pits and loungers available for guests in the complex. While skiing, snowboarding and hiking are possible at Northstar, ten minutes away by car, and Alpine/Squaw, twenty minutes away. The home is light, friendly and cheerful, and is sure to please families and guests of all ages. 

Down by the Shoreline

With views over the Santa Cruz Mountains, this home screams tranquil country charm. But that doesn't mean it's totally remote. Downtown San Jose lies only a short drive away for you to explore, and so does San Jose Country Club for the golfing enthusiast. Apart from the stretching vistas from the balcony, we also love how bright and comfortable the space is. If you're cooking, you can pick fresh veggies from the greenhouse to enhance tried recipes. The Idyllic

Nestled on a five-acre estate, this custom-built home received the Outdoor Living Award from Tahoe Quarterly Magazine – and we can see why. As you arrive at the property, take a moment to breathe in the fresh pine-scented air while taking in the breathtaking views over the abundance of nature. 

With two levels of outdoor living areas, you can lap up the views from different angles without leaving the great outdoors. Enjoy blissful homemade meals and barbecues on the terrace featuring an alfresco dining area before watching the sunset from the hot tub. You'll find further entertainment amenities on the second terrace, including a ping pong table and enough space to practice yoga at sunrise. 

In the backyard, warm up around the fire pit as night falls, and make the most of the solid stone loungers during the daytime of the warmer months spent here. There's just as much leisure space inside as outside; as in the open plan living area and kitchen, stretch out wherever you find comfy amidst the cosy and contemporary interiors with a glass of California wine in hand. We bet the floor-to-ceiling fireplace will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy after a day of discovering the Truckee and Lake Tahoe area. 

Whether you're staying in summer or winter, the area offers outdoor activities galore. From hiking and biking in the pine forests to sought-after ski resorts such as Northstar, Squaw, Alpine Meadows, and Sugar Bowl, located just a fifteen-minute drive away, you won't be stuck for things to do here. And for more relaxed days beyond the amenities of the home, why not head into downtown Truckee where you'll discover the array of coffee shops, restaurants and wine bars on offer? 



Beyond the Sugar Pines

Driving along the gently winding roads of California’s Shenandoah Valley, there are dozens of vineyards and wineries. Tucked in among them is this delightful home. Turn off the main road and down the tree-lined driveway to this bright and comfortable holiday home, right at the heart of Wine Country. 

There are views of the neighbouring vineyard from every angle. Wake up in the morning to views from your bedroom before wandering out onto your balcony to sip your morning coffee and watch the sun rise up over the vines. In the evenings, the sunsets are even more special. After a day exploring the nearby vineyards, curl up around the fire pit and host your own tasting session. 

To accompany your evening of wine and good company, you might fire up the grill and have an alfresco meal. Alternatively, the call of this home’s beautiful chef’s kitchen might be too strong to resist. Cook up a feast while your friends and family sit at the island chatting. Make after-dinner cocktails from the charmingly named ‘barmoire’ in the living room, and then settle in around the fireplace for board games or poker. 


Vineyard Views

With its dark wooden frames and surrounding woodland, this home makes for a cosy stay despite its large size. Spread across a few floors, this impressive and innovative spot is somewhere between a townhouse and a lodge. It is just outside of the city centre of Truckee, surrounded by parkland and a river that keeps you close to nature.

In winter, watch snow grace the terrain and head to one of the ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe. The lake itself is a family paradise in the summer months when you can kayak and swim in it.

Back home, explore the nooks and crannies on each floor before curling up with a book by the living room fireplace. Lie on the plump sofas and make use of the large bathtubs to unwind after a day of skiing. The kitchen is modern and stylish, while the terrace is the perfect spot for lunch.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Surrounded by hiking trails, golf courses, and stretches of Pacific coast, this home in Santa Cruz not only has an enviable location, but it’s bursting with the potential for plenty of memories made. The backyard, alone, has a private swimming pool, tiki bar, and a swath of green turf that the kids will love running around on – especially when they’re hiding from the dinosaur. Now, although their ancestor is just a statue, the chickens are very real – find them in their coop when you’re making the rounds outdoors. Pass through trees, make your way up and down steps as you stretch out and shake off the last dregs of sleep, and refresh yourself with a morning swim before going back inside to brew a pot of fresh coffee. 

Take breakfasts out on the patio – chances are you might even enjoy a scramble of fresh eggs, courtesy of the chickens – and when you’re ready to start exploring, head out to any one of the beaches that await you on the other end of a short drive. Golfers can tee off at one of two courses only minutes away, and nature lovers can get up close and personal with the native beauty of California by setting off on the hiking trails. 

Spend afternoons reading in the hammock, barbecue at sunset, swim under the stars, watch family movies huddled together next to the fire. Visit the amusement park, the Bigfoot Discovery Museum, and eat more authentic tacos than you thought possible – knowing that this cosy home is waiting for you to return for some well-deserved R&R.

Redwood & Palm

For those creative souls who revel in unique beauty from a bygone era, this elegant, art-filled home visually delights from every angle while offering all the modern conveniences. Situated on the top floor of a two-unit condominium in the sought-after Noe Valley neighbourhood, this home with Mediterranean influences benefits from garden views as well as views out to the iconic Twin Peaks and Sutro Tower. And thanks to Noe Valley's central location, it’s one of the sunniest spots in the city.

Inside, you'll be greeted by a grand living room furnished with elegant yet comfortable antique furniture. The adjacent dining room features a lavish 1930s chandelier above the mahogany table which opens up to seat six. Vintage vibes continue through to the well-equipped kitchen and the characterful bedrooms, where a combination of floral and maritime themes add some old-world charm.

Outside, why not catch some sun in the shared organic garden planted with a variety of native plants and fruit trees, before taking a stroll along the tree-lined street to the shops and restaurants of 24th Street, just a block away. Regarded as the heart of Noe Valley, 24th Street has an abundance of boutiques, salons, coffee houses, bars, and restaurants. It also features a Whole Foods and a bustling Farmer's Market every Saturday.  If you’d like to explore under your own steam, there’s a street car stop here, as well as bike sharing. Continue half a mile down the street to reach the iconic Mission District where you can explore all the artistic colour and flavour of this wonderfully diverse neighbourhood. Here’s where you can catch the BART for easy access to the rest of the city and the greater Bay Area, as well as tech buses that whisk you out to Silicon Valley.
