In a little-trafficked (by Manhattan standards) corner of the Upper East Side, Heirloom provides you with a haven to retreat, away from the bustle normally associated with the city. That calm feeling has clearly influenced the interior design as well, with certain nods to Scandinavia, and nice variety of houseplants. The kitchen’s a draw too, with a good set of appliances (although no food is provided). It’s set over two floors, with a terrace split over two levels as well, so even if you decide to use the futon, it feels like it’s big enough.

Due to its small size, the living area feels a little cluttered – the same is true of the bedrooms, which don't offer much space beyond the bed. We also think the home doesn't get as much sunlight as we would like. That said, you have everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the location is fantastic – you're just a short walk from the East River and Central Park, and there are plenty of eateries and cafes close by.

Recently remodelled, and therefore looking extra sleek, Penderyn is a refined studio on the Upper East Side, perfect for those looking for a comfortable base in a residential neighbourhood. Although it is definitely on the small side, even by New York standards, we would imagine guests staying here will spending their time out and about, exploring all this great city has to offer. After a long day of sightseeing, you’ll surely appreciate the clean and modern bathroom and the wonderfully comfortable bed.

Immerse yourself in the excitement of Manhattan from this sleek apartment on the Upper West Side. You'll find Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and Broadway within easy walking distance. Inside, it's a modern space with laptop-friendly desk space, making it suitable for longer business trips (though street noise should be expected). The kitchenette is very small, so we recommend eating out. You'll be able to check yourself in, bring along a furry friend, and work out in the shared gym. But the best part about this pad is the little balcony, offering a private spot for you to soak up the big city buzz.

This is a cosy and well-appointed studio apartment situated in the historic neighbourhood of Harlem. Built in the 1800s, many of its original features have been preserved. And the host has pepped it up a bit with antique flea market finds, appropriately jiving with the Brownstone's vintage vibe. Your immediate neighbourhood is tree-lined and quiet and a bit of a way from the city's epicentre - but it's a true delight should you want a peaceful retreat in NYC.

The rest of Manhattan is easily accessible in under half an hour, thanks to your proximity to 86th Street station – it's just a five-minute walk away.
