Named for the impressive eponymous square, this area is home to several gardens, churches, and villas that offer stunning views over Florence. The San Miniato Church is the best place to watch the sunset over the domes and spires of the city. It's less congested than the central neighbourhoods over the river, and the beautiful architecture and abundance of green spaces add to the sense of calm. Walking around the neighbourhood involves a lot of up and down, but if you're down for the workout, it's a rewarding stroll. The quieter atmosphere is ideal for travellers looking for a relaxed stay – there are countless spots to wander and take in the views, but at the same time, the more vibrant nightlife of San Niccolò and Santo Spirito is just next door, and the city centre is still within walking distance (Florence really isn't that big).
