Vail, Colorado

Colorado is one of the best spots in the US to honeymoon. The skiing here is some of the best in the world, and in the summer you can enjoy the great outdoors here without the winter crowd to get in your way. And of course, Plum Guide has all of the luxurious properties to stay in that your heart desires. Here’s our guide to the most romantic Colorado honeymoon destinations.

Vail

The second largest ski area in the US, Vail is a great place to spend your honeymoon if you and your new life partner are snow bunnies (or even if one of you isn’t, and instead plans to spend two weeks in the spa). The village at Vail is Swiss-inspired, so you’ll almost feel like you’re in the Alps. At the base of the mountain, it’s a great spot to use as the base for your honeymoon.

The people who live in Colorado tend to be the outdoorsy type, so we recommend you pack accordingly. Set within the White River National Forest, you can do almost any outdoor sport your heart desires here. Skiing, of course, but also snowboarding, snowshoeing and dog sledding. In the summer months, Vail is a hotspot for hiking, golfing and summer festivals, as well as for fishing.

Steamboat Springs

Around three and a half hours from Denver by car is the gorgeous town of Steamboat Springs. Also a ski resort, it has no fewer than six peaks to ski, including Mount Werner. The skiing here is second to none, and there are also other winter activities on offer such as snowmobiling, if you and your new spouse want to have a story worth telling when you get home. A huge draw to Steamboat Springs are the springs themselves. Located near the city centre, the Old Town Hot Springs have a long history, plus a swimming pool and soaking pools (and water slides, if you're unlucky enough to have your kids with you on your honeymoon).

Denver

If you’re the kind of person who prefers a city break to a skiing break, Denver is the Colorado honeymoon destination for you. Colorado’s capital city, Denver is a charming place to spend some time if you’re craving the hustle and bustle of a big city. The cultural scene here is buzzy, so if you want to be plugged into the zeitgeist just give it a couple of days and you’ll be spouting recommendations for food, museums and activities here just like a local.

Foodies will especially love it in Denver. The food scene here is really popping, with new eateries opening all the time and lots of well-known chefs are drawn to the city. Our recommendations? Owlbear Barbecue for Texas-style BBQ, specifically the brisket. Other good options include the Colorado lamb and the beef ribs. Another great food option is Savory Vietnam, which is the best kept secret for Vietnamese food in the city. With a 42-page menu, the dishes range from the familiar to the less so, so we suggest you order a lot and see what you like best.

For other cultural activities, Denver beer is famous for a reason, so consider taking your loved one to get tipsy on the Denver Beer Trail. Denver Art Museum is famous for its impressive collection of Native American art, and if your favourite pop star is in town while you happen to be there, head to Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre.
