Greenpoint is a largely residential area with a real hipster appeal and contemporary art scene. With Williamsburg becoming ever popular amongst tourists, Greenpoint is a great alternative for those seeking a more local experience. Writers and actors, like Lena Dunham and Tina Fey, are huge fans of this understated part of Brooklyn, so don’t be surprised if you recognise scenes from some of your favourite hit TV shows. Enjoy the numerous restaurants and bars (from low-key to high-end) that are sprinkled all over the area. McCarren and McGolrick Park are great places to enjoy the local atmosphere, whether for a morning run or a look around the farmers market. You could easily spend your entire holiday in this part of the city or hop on the L train to Lower Manhattan. Thanks to tunnel reparations, the L train was due to shut down from April 2019 until the autumn of 2020. Luckily for all Greenpoint and Williamsburg residents, innovative design technology means a full shutdown is no longer necessary and the train will continue to run, although it is worth checking the schedule before you head out.
