At full capacity, one guest will sleep on the sofa bed in one of the two colourful living rooms, and parties strictly aren't allowed here. With a projector in one of the living rooms, a wine bar in the kitchen, space for alfresco dining and Sonos throughout the house, it's ideal for large groups who want to feel right at home. As for your surroundings – enjoy the many nearby cafes and restaurants of Williamsburg. You're also directly on McCarren Park, and after a short walk through the park to the L train, you can be in Union Square in 10 minutes. An Uber ride to lower Manhattan is approximately 15 minutes.

Come evening, ask the hotel concierge service downstairs to point you out a couple of great eateries, before exploring Greenpoint by night – it's a friendly, artsy neighbourhood – perfect for those post-dinner strolls.

This Greenpoint pad shuns the classic Brooklyn aesthetic, stumbling upon something warmer and more colourful in the process. It’s actually part of a boutique hotel, so while it doesn’t feel totally like someone’s home (more on that later), for those looking for a slice of Brooklyn's low-key cool, with the benefit of a hotel concierge, it's an excellent option. This converted former factory has been given a head-to-toe makeover, with each of the rooms furnished individually to ensure that no two are the same. The open living area creates a great social space that extends outdoors – though you'll have a climb a few steps to reach it. Retro toys, cameras and flea market finds are dotted around the room to add a personal touch. If you want to explore further afield, you're eight minutes from the closest Metro, which will have you in Lower Manhattan in approximately twenty-five minutes. There's also the scenic East River option courtesy of the Greenpoint ferry terminal under a mile away.

Modern, bright, and a little bit luxurious – this apartment is a lovely pick for solo travellers or couples visiting the city. You'll find a well-equipped kitchen and the dining table doubles up as a laptop-friendly workspace for those planning a longer stay. It's also worth noting that your host operates several apartments here, so the exact view, layout and furnishings might differ slightly from the photos. However, the overall quality should remain the same. But the biggest draw is, of course, the home's fabulous Greenpoint location. You'll find open green spaces, waterfront parks, casual eateries and trendy bars right on your doorstep.

Located within a historic Greenpoint hotel, this is not your usual homestay. But for those looking to stay in the low-key cool atmosphere of north Brooklyn, with the added convenience of a hotel concierge, it's a fantastic choice. A converted former factory, the hotel's designer has taken the time to create a bespoke interior for each of the rooms within the building. The open-plan living area gives off a welcoming vibe, with its beautiful hardwood floors, elegant mid-century furniture, and compact kitchen. There are antique mirrors lining the wall, specially commissioned artworks, and old factory finds that make the room feel more like someone's home than a hotel room. The cosy master bedroom is coated in warm blues that will lull you into a deep sleep in no time. If you want to branch out, you're just an eight-minute walk from the nearest Metro station and can be in lower Manhattan within twenty-five minutes, while the Greenpoint ferry terminal is also close by for the more scenic East River option.

Who doesn't love the perks and delights of a boutique hotel? Nine Boxes gets the both of best worlds – it's an apartment with a private kitchen and small terrace, but it sits within a hotel so guests will be privy to all the services that come with it. You'll have access to a free shuttle service (within a mile radius), fresh coffee and tea and swanky communal areas to lounge around in. This isn't a homestay if that's what you're after, but it's a great option for anyone who likes the luxuries of a proper hotel.

Housed with a boutique hotel, guests can enjoy the best of both worlds here – hotel luxury and self-catered apartment independence. Inside the apartment itself, you’ve got an eclectic medley of styles, from the exposed pipework painted fire engine red to cute midnight-blue cabinets on hardwood floors. The living room has a wall of windows letting in lots of natural light and is a big space (a bonus in New York) and there's a little side terrace set with a table and chairs for a tipple in the evening. Cook in your own kitchen or enjoy the freshly brewed coffee of the hotel – staying here means you can pick and choose to your heart's content. The area,  Greenpoint, is located just north of bustling Williamsburg, offering a peaceful, residential retreat with some of that trendy bar, restaurant and art scene creeping into the streets. And we'll let you in on a secret; some of the best views of the iconic Manhattan skyline can be seen from this corner of New York, and this building’s rooftop terrace takes it all in.

This duplex apartment sits within a boutique hotel, giving you loft-style independence with the option of swanky communal lounges and a 24/7 concierge to organise restaurant bookings, taxis and local recommendations. Based in Greenpoint, the local area is awash with trendy bars and restaurants with achingly cool Williamsburg just next door. This part of Brooklyn boasts some of the best views of the Manhattan skyline too. In the double-height living room, splashes of orange contrast with midnight-blue walls. Huge, warehouse-style windows are just above living height so there’s a sense of privacy even as the curtains are open and the natural light streams in. It’s a big space with loads of lounging room, and three different desk spaces should you need to get some work done. Both bedrooms are tucked up on the mezzanine level, up a spiral staircase and feature sprawling king-size beds.

Lofted Box oozes that classic Brooklyn aesthetic with exposed iron beams and repurposed furnishings. This lofted apartment even has its own private terrace, and even though the view isn’t one for the ages, the fresh air is a welcome addition. It’s actually part of a boutique hotel, so while it doesn’t feel like someone’s home, there are the services to make up for it – for example, a shuttle that’ll take you anywhere within a mile radius, for free!

This Brooklyn apartment puts you five minutes from the nearest subway stop, whisking you into Manhatten in less than fifteen minutes. There’s plenty to explore on your doorstep too. The red-brick buildings of Greenpoint attract an artsy crowd and you’ll find leafy streets filled with trendy cafés and bars, and one of the best views of the Manhatten skyline can be seen from the riverside. 

Housed in a traditional townhouse building, this top-floor apartment is perfect for families. The kitchen is particularly roomy for an NYC pad, with funky Portuguese floor tiles and an island proving lots of room to cook. The L-shaped sofa can fit the whole family around the Smart TV, and a nook-like room off the master bedroom can be used as a playroom (toys provided) or workspace if you’re mixing business with pleasure. The decor is everything you’d expect from a Brooklyn apartment with hardwood floors and sash windows, but the additional pops of turquoise, yellow and sky blue add a playful element.

While this home may be modest in square footage, it sure is mighty. Packing a punch in both convenience and amenities, a solo traveller or couple will be very happy here. With an impressive private terrace – that's almost as big as the home itself – you can thoroughly enjoy some downtime after a busy day with an aperitif under the stars. When you do find yourself at home, there's a comfortable sofa, writing desk and kitted-out kitchen complete with washer and dryer – a rarity in an NYC studio – so you can show up and start living as soon as you arrive. And did we mention that it's only a ten-minute walk to the Flatiron building? Continue for ten minutes more and you’ll reach the Empire State, the Morgan Library and Museum and the tucked away barbecue joints of bustling Koreatown.

This apartment is ideally suited to those looking to drop their bags and head out from the get-go. Its major draw is the fabulous location, placing you in the thick of NYC. Just a short walk away you'll reach the iconic Flatiron Building, the Empire State Building, and Union Square – though this does mean that some noise should be expected. Inside, it's surprisingly spacious for a studio flat, with a kitchen and dining area tucked neatly around the corner. There's a sofa bed for flexible sleeping, but we only recommend this for younger children.

In a little-trafficked (by Manhattan standards) corner of the Upper East Side, Heirloom provides you with a haven to retreat, away from the bustle normally associated with the city. That calm feeling has clearly influenced the interior design as well, with certain nods to Scandinavia, and nice variety of houseplants. The kitchen’s a draw too, with a good set of appliances (although no food is provided). It’s set over two floors, with a terrace split over two levels as well, so even if you decide to use the futon, it feels like it’s big enough.

Situated on a one-way street in the heart of Greenwich Village that Eleonor Roosevelt once called home, this six-storey Romanesque Revival building makes for a classic New York home from home.

Inside, the spacious apartment blends original nineteenth-century features and modern finishes offering a breathtaking fusion of styles. An open-plan living room/kitchen provides direct access to the outdoors via a balcony, alongside expansive views over downtown. So there's plenty of space to come together and socialise, whether you're stretched out on the sofa or preparing dinner in the handcrafted kitchen.

Though the decor isn't particularly homey, it's been recently renovated making the bathroom and kitchen especially luxurious.

Just two blocks away from the gates of Central Park, this home is a true gem in NYC's hectic Midtown. It's the ideal spot to enjoy some downtime, whether you're in town to work, visiting friends and family, or simply exploring everything the city has to offer. And, with the dazzling lights of Times Square and Broadway less than a ten-minute walk away, you're right in the heart of the action. The public transport connections are excellent from here too, and those travelling for business will be pleased to know that a half-hour subway ride takes you to the financial district. At the end of a busy day, the city views are waiting for you back home – watch the buildings light up from the window as darkness falls and plan your next move.
