Just outside the building, a cross-country ski trail takes you past stunning alpine vistas and in the town of Lenzerheide you’ll find a handful of ski lifts to whisk you up to the slopes – the closest being a ten-minute walk away. Part of a hotel complex (but totally self-contained), guests here have access to the outdoor thermal pool with its water fountains, a shared indoor swimming pool and the hotel’s boot and equipment room.

Spoiler alert – you’ve got far-reaching views of the slopes and Alpine ski runs from the breakfast table of this chic apartment, so you know exactly what’s in store each day. It’s on the outskirts of Livigno where gondolas and ski lifts await to whisk you up the mountainside. A heated ski locker can keep your ski boots and salopettes warm and dry, ready for another day on the powder. In summer, the hiking trails up into the Alps reward with stunning views and you can fuel up for big walks with a view of an Alpine meadow, thanks to a stone-built barbecue and dining area in the vast garden. Even in winter, the first-floor balcony catches the sunshine – perfect for toasting the mountains with a sundowner. 

Heading inside, the first thing that caught our attention was the picture-frame window by the dining table, framing the mountain view like a work of art. The sitting room is tucked in a cosy little wood-clad corner for that cabin-chic feel and long windows let the sunlight stream in. A sleek black kitchen hides everything you need for apres-ski meals and morning coffees before the slopes. Bedrooms are tucked beneath wooden ceilings across both floors and the added bonus is the steam room for sore muscles.

The Italian Alps offer charm and excitement throughout both summer and winter. While ski resorts like Livigno have enough excellent terrain to draw the snowsports crowds, a relaxing stay in lush mountain scenery wouldn’t go amiss in warmer months. In a similar way, this home allows you to experience both sides of the region.

Just a five-minute walk from the nearest ski lift, this studio apartment is more than handy for skiers and snowboarders. But as the sun beats down in the heat of July, it’s equally wonderful for picturesque bike rides (courtesy of your host). Either way, you’ll be in need of relaxation afterwards – that’s where the sauna comes in.

Beyond the wooden porch and pine interiors of this modern building, the luxe spa sits on its own floor. With beanbags and a chill-out area next to the glass door to the sauna, you’ve got plenty of space to kick back if it gets too hot.

Part of a traditional-style chalet, it's warm, cosy and the host has thought of everything to make your stay a delight. From the Adirondack chairs on the wrap-around balcony you can gaze across rooftops, hills and snow-covered pines all the way to the Silvretta glacier. If you're here to ski, which is most likely, you can walk to the Gotschna cable car in about seven minutes – and choose to leave your kit either down there or in the boot room of your building. Inside, it's chocolate-box pretty, with a beautiful log fireplace, comfy soft furnishings and a huge corner sofa to relax on – all the while taking in that view. South facing and flooded with natural light, it's a bright and uplifting place to call home. Keen cooks will be pleased to note the kitchen has only the finest appliances and there's a sociable round dining table to spend your evenings sitting around with friends or family.

When it comes to a stay on the slopes, you can’t get much more charming or convenient than this chic chalet-style home. The white walls and natural woods of the interior design are as pretty as the Swiss mountains outside, and if you fancy a glimpse of the real thing, just step out onto your private balcony and take in the view of the slopes. During the summer months you can hit the hiking trails, and in the winter there’s a free shuttle bus to the ski runs of Corviglia Piz Nair, where you can shred some powder. Situated right at the vibrant heart of Churwalden, this stylish hideaway boasts an enchanting atmosphere. Guests are welcomed into a snug living room, anchored by a charming Swedish stove - the perfect spot for relaxation after a day's exploration. The 75 m2 loft, devoid of any lifts, presents two inviting bedrooms; one with a double bed, and another with twin single beds. A contemporary bathroom accompanies the bedrooms promising comfort and convenience. An advanced notice welcomes canine companions to join the fun too. Nearby, a brisk walk leads to exciting attractions such as thrilling toboggan runs, zipline adventures, heated outdoor swimming pool and diverse stores. For those bringing little ones along, a cot and high chair can be made available upon request from the office.

This stylish little apartment has everything you need for a break by the lake in Lugano. Back at the apartment building, head to the shared gym for a workout session, or perhaps catch up on work in one of the communal working spaces. Then retreat to the privacy of your apartment where a kitchenette provides the basics if you’re not dining out. Stone floors and a pistachio-green feature wall keep things characterful. When it’s time for your morning espresso, you’ll be glad of the private terrace just beyond the bedroom/living room.

However, the jewel in the crown of this home is the outdoor space. Simply wake up and open up the patio doors to step right onto the balcony – it's the perfect place to sip your morning coffee. There's also a terrace with sun loungers where you can admire the sweeping landscapes, and even access to your own tiny beach if you fancy a paddle. 

If you feel like getting out onto the water, then there are a few boat rental companies just a short stroll away. However, if you would prefer to stay on dry land, then there are a few restaurants where you can sip a glass of wine and admire the boats from afar. Plus, the town of Bellagio is just a fifteen-minute car ride away – wander through the cobbled streets, gelato in hand, before taking a stroll through Villa Serbelloni Park.

It’s worth noting the stairs do not have a handrail so this may not be the best option for families with young children, but you will find this is a great base for a lakeside adventure. From here, it’s a short stroll to cafes, bars and restaurants, while the ferry is just 400 metres away.
