Just a stone’s throw from Lake Como and within walking distance of the charming town of Lenno, this villa promises peace and quiet on Como’s western shore. You’ll have lake views to admire and plenty of outdoor space to soak them up – think a private pool, shaded terraces, balconies, and an outdoor lounge and dining area. Three of the bedrooms offer an extra single bed, which makes a great choice for families, though a group of close friends could make it work, too. And while the villa feels like its own retreat, we expect you’ll want to make the most of the lake, local trattorias and Spiaggia di Lenno, which are all within walking distance.

Bellagio Dream

Modern, bright and beautiful as it is, nothing's going to beat the outdoor area here. With ample seating, including an alfresco dining table under a flowering pergola, looking out over the glistening lake, you can see why this one made our collection. We also like the bathtub facing the door so you can even admire the views from inside. Because of the perched location of this home, you'll have to climb steps up to it, but it'll all be worth it for the breathtaking panorama of Lake Como. Less than half a mile away from here, you can go water skiing on Lago Maggiore. After that, try cheese fondue in one of the many local restaurants. We think you'd be hard-pressed to find a snazzy, modern home like this with better views of the Swiss alps. From the garden they're truly panoramic and this place has been designed to make the most of them – with window walls, sliding doors and a wraparound terrace. Come summer or winter, this ground floor apartment is an idyllic jumping off point to explore the stunning region, either on one of the many nearby hiking trails or on the ski slopes. Enjoy a lunchtime barbecue, and tuck into a dinner of fondue or raclette. If your muscle are aching from all the hiking or skiing, take some time out and head to the sauna.

High on a Hill

This serviced studio is ideal for a romantic break or solo trip. Next to Bogogno Golf Club and just thirty minutes from Lake Maggiore or Malpensa Airport, it’s part of a renovated Italian farmhouse with plenty of character. Think rustic stone walls and terracotta floors. The space is cleverly designed, with a screened-off kitchen and big windows that open onto your own section of terrace beneath the wisteria. You can also make use of the shared gardens. Restaurants are a short walk away, and optional extras like breakfast or even a butler service can be arranged. It’s compact and there’s no sofa, but with so much to explore nearby, we doubt you'll want to lounge about anyway.

This home is in the ideal spot for exploring Lake Como. You’re just a five minute stroll from the main attraction – the lake itself – and Duomo di Como, the town’s historic cathedral. And for adventures further afield, the train station is a short walk away. The home itself is on the fourth floor – don’t worry, there’s a lift – and boasts a sociable open-plan living area, and a small, private balcony overlooking a majestic magnolia tree. We think this place is ready-made for a family or small group of friends wanting a fuss-free stay in a central location.

If you’re looking for spectacular views of Lake Maggiore, look no further. This freshly renovated 19th-century house, with its south-west facing position, has vistas that will take your breath away. Take in the scenery from the poolside terrace, or gaze through the arches of the covered seating area with a glass of wine in hand. There's multiple terraces to capture every ounce of that crisp mountain air and surprising, near-Mediterranean like landscape. Indoors, the elegant living room has plenty to admire too, with its sparkling glass chandeliers and large windows. Take a seat on the chaise sofa, with its tropical print cushions evocative of the palms outside and unwind. On chillier evenings, gather around the open fire or swap stories before dinner in the sophisticated dining room. This home is ideally situated in Minusio – a short, less than thirty-minutes walk away from the lakeside. Nearby chic Locarno, Switzerland's lowest-altitude town, offers a range of attractions. Have a stroll around its Piazza Grande, which hosts a raft of renowned music and film festivals in the summer months. 

Palms & Lakes

This elegant home can be found in Ascona, where the mountains give way to the majesty of Lake Maggiore. Switzerland's lowest lying town, the varied terrain here means there are lots of ways you can explore, be it hiking or biking, and you don’t have to stay on dry land either. Take to the waters on a lake cruise or drive along the shore until you hit another country altogether – Italy is just fifteen minutes away. And that explains why this top floor home has more than a hint of Italian chic about it, with white walls, parquet flooring and a blend of classic and modern furnishings. There's a little balcony for morning coffee or evening aperitifs, and it's just a ten-minute stroll down to the lake.   

Maggiore Magic

Situated in a prime location overlooking Lake Como with a backdrop of mountains – the setting couldn’t be more dramatic. There’s an infinity swimming pool and terrace with wonderful views, while inside, the vistas continue to wow. Inside, there’s an open-plan living room and a cosy bar area – perfect for entertaining. And to make sure you have time to relax, a free breakfast is served daily by the private chef. For lunch, you can do some cooking in the stylish kitchen or visit one of the local restaurants a short stroll away.
