We were sold on those views of Lake Maggiore alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the panoramic sunny terrace and newly refurbished interiors of this townhouse. As we're finickity, the downstairs living space feels a little bijou, but with that covered panoramic balcony outside, we don't think you'll mind. And kids will love the novelty of the top-floor mezzanine bedroom with a TV den to spill out into. Perched amidst the hillsides, 700 metres above the lake, you're quietly removed from the bustle. But when it's time to dip your toes into lakeside living, Stresa's grand promenades and history-rich streets bustling with trattorias are just a five-minute drive away.

Plus, you'll even have your very own balcony, which makes the perfect place to sip a sundowner as you gaze out towards the mountain peaks in the distance.

The shore of Lago Maggiore is just a few minutes away on foot, where you can arrange a boat tour or take a leisurely stroll on dry land. Enjoy a revitalising dip in the thermal baths at Lido Locarno, then pay a visit to the striking Piazza Grande. And, if you're feeling adventurous, you can go mountain biking, hiking, or even paragliding in the mountains just north of the town.

When it's time to explore, you're under a twenty-minute walk or five-minute drive from the heart of Locarno. Known for its fondue and local wines, food lovers will adore walking its cobbled streets and stopping into small, traditional food and drink spots. And thanks to its proximity to Italy, Lake Maggiore is actually shared between Italy and Switzerland, you can be sure to enjoy plenty of delicious pastas, pizzas, and gelato. Meander home after a wholesome evening in the city and enjoy a night cap under the pergola in the garden.

The slopes are only 100m away – the ski lift is a kilometre away – meaning competent skiers can strap up and just speed off on a day's adventure. Big baths await to soak tired muscles in bedrooms and bathrooms, our favourite being the stretched tub in the master suite – we're pretty sure there's room for two. If you're visiting in summer, a spacious garden and terrace furniture is perfect for catching the sunset, and if you need a break from all that cheese, you can fire up the barbecue.
