Everywhere you look inside, there are tasteful touches, from the dining table made from a repurposed door and the unashamedly bright colours on the walls to the sheer range of objets d'art dotted about the home.

We're also happy to say that there's plenty of substance behind this style. The sleek black kitchen not only looks the part, but it's also well-equipped for whipping up a feast. We're also fond of the terrace, which has views out over the rooftops and verdant hillsides beyond.

When you're ready to get to know the locale a little better, you'll be surprised at how much there is to see. All of three minutes' walk from the home is Torreó de la Peça, the centuries-old defensive walls built to protect the town from marauders. Arena-Bol beach is a ten-minute walk, while further along the coastline, it's possible to head up to the top of Penyal d'Ifac in just over an hour on foot for some incredible views.

It's not suitable for young children due to the lack of fencing in the some of the outdoor areas and the pool, but there are ground-floor bedrooms and bathrooms, and a double sofa bed for some extra flexibility in the sleeping arrangements. We highly recommend having a car here, but it's not far to drive into the centre of Jávea or the nearby golf course. Further away, you'll find spectacular days out in the bustling city of Alicante and its beautiful beaches.

Spend your days soaking up the sun on one of the loungers, or bag a retro stripy deckchair in the shade and dive into the pool when the heat gets to you. Or, with the beach just a five-minute drive away, perhaps you'd rather relax on the sand. Have a light lunch at home or head to the town for some tapas, with everything from traditional Valencian restaurants to quirky eateries on your doorstep. Return home to catch those spectacular sunsets and cook a barbecue as the sun sets over the sea, turning the sky pink and silhouetting the rugged islands off the coast. A huge sliding wall of glass separates the indoor living space with the outdoors, so there’s plenty of opportunity to cook in the sleek, modern kitchen and serve under the parasols on the pool terrace. Each bedroom has its own access to the garden or the terrace so there’ll be no short straws when it’s time to decide who sleeps where.

We love the shaded terrace – great for evening socialising over freshly cooked seafood, while the swimming pool will entertain the kids. If you’re looking to explore the coastline – you’re just 4km from the sandy Cala Baladrar and Moraira beaches. There’s plenty to do in the surrounding area, including canoeing, kayaking, and waterskiing – ideal for the adventurous types.

This villa caught our eye for its incredible sea views – and with five terraces and three balconies, there are plenty of spots to enjoy them from. You’ve also got a private pool and the use of a fitness centre and sauna to make your stay even more enjoyable. Inside, the contemporary living spaces offer ocean vistas and all of the bedrooms are ensuite for added privacy. The historic town of Javea, with its many shops, restaurants and tapas bars, is a 10km drive away and if you fancy eating in, your host can help arrange a cooking service so you won’t have to lift a finger.

Just a three minute walk to the nearest sandy beach of Arenal, you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing somewhere for dinner, a morning coffee, or a glass of sangria as you watch the world go by. There is also a rocky beach just a stone's throw from the apartment, where you can enjoy excellent snorkelling, scuba diving and fishing. The pretty port and historic old town of Javea is just three kilometres away, and you'll find two prestigious golf courses within around a twenty minute radius.

Whether you've spent that day playing a few holes, soaking up the southern Spanish sunshine on your favourite local beach, or exploring the beguiling backstreets of Javea – unmistakably Spanish with their whitewashed houses adorned with bright swathes of bougainvillea – you can always return to the comfort and calm of this home away from home. Cook up something tasty in the kitchen (we especially love preparing a steam pan of Arroz a la Banda, Alicante’s take on typical paella), before heading out onto the balcony that overlooks the communal swimming pool, perhaps breaking out the board games to while away the evening as dusk turns into a star-speckled night.

With two living areas, three bedrooms, a glossy kitchen and a lovely terrace fit for entertaining, there's more than enough space here to make yourself at home. Start the day with a coffee on the outdoor sofa, then jump in the pool to cool off. Throw open the patio doors and seamlessly move between the terrace and the sleek living space, enjoying lunch around the dining table as you feel the breeze on your skin. Pick up some fresh seafood from the fish auction every afternoon, then fire up the grill in the evenings as the sun goes down. Don't feel like cooking? Drive ten minutes into Jávea and enjoy dinner on the water – there are heaps of cafes, bars and restaurants to tickle your fancy. And, of course, a trip to Alicante isn't complete without a day at the beach – Playa Delarenal's wide sandy shore is eleven minutes by car, but we prefer the quiet cove of Platja de la Granadella, eight minutes away.
