There's also a dining terrace equipped with a barbecue, so you can enjoy alfresco suppers long into the endless summer evenings.

This postcard-perfect home is quietly tucked away in the outskirts of Salobreña. It's quintessentially Spanish, with a terracotta-tiled roof, stone floors and wooden beamed ceilings, but the interior also plays tribute to Moorish design, with its ornate mosaic tiles and lanterns. Spread across a single storey, the intricate tiling in the kitchen, hallways and dining area immediately draws the eye, while the eclectic collection of antique furnishings adds character, too. It's not all historic though – contemporary flourishes come in the shape of chic lighting and minimalist bedrooms.

The home's biggest perk, however, has to be the outdoor space and the private swimming pool, in particular – how often do you see one of those in the middle of a city? Once you're done paddling, you can retire to the adjoining table complete with a view of Granadan rooftops or to the verdant garden instead.

Venture to the sprawling Alhambra and you’ll also see a mediaeval influence dating back to Moorish occupation in the fortress complex. Every column and dome here will make this an architecture's dream holiday, but you don’t have to be that way inclined to appreciate what’s on offer, especially not when you sit down at one of the local tapas bars or a cafe for a cup of coffee.

Explore this beloved city in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains and when you wish to get a bird’s eye view, you don’t have to look further than your very own terrace.
