On the coastline north of Barcelona, ensconced in Sant Pol de Mar, a small fishing village with the sea on one side and the forest on the other, this pretty villa combines the best of Mediterranean living. The interiors are thoughtfully designed, with stone walls and terracotta tiling keeping the rooms cool. The pops of forest green in the master bedroom and the ocean blue second bedroom are an ode to the villa’s natural surroundings. 

Outside there is a terrace with views of the ocean and deck chairs for soaking up rays, with a private plunge pool to cool off in. Meals can be enjoyed at the al fresco dining table, or walk nine minutes into town where you will find excellent restaurants, local shops and a supermarket. 

The villa is a four minute walk from the beach, and the nearby national park is perfect for hiking and cycling. For those wanting to venture further afield, Barcelona can be reached in an hour by train from the centre of Sant Pol de Mar.

Come evening, fire up the barbecue and grill some seafood bought from the local fishmonger to eat beneath the stars. Whether you prefer to spend your days hiking, swimming, or simply relaxing, this villa is perfectly placed to provide something for everyone.

Sitting on a quiet street in the middle of Sant Pol de Mar, this home might bear the traditional bearings of Mediterranean architecture on the exterior, but the interior is a real modern delight.

As you wander about, you can't fail to notice just how bright and welcoming the design is, something aided by the large windows and stark white walls that accentuate the bountiful amounts of natural light that stream inside. Cleansing colours seem to be a recurring theme here, whether in the sleek surfaces of the minimalist kitchen or the equally contemporary bathrooms, one with a hydromassage bathtub for good measure.

This being Spain, it wouldn't be asking for too much to expect some outdoor spaces in which to enjoy the glorious climate and thankfully, there are two terraces – one down at ground level, another on the upper floor that looks out to views of the surrounding town and a pair of balconies from which it's possible to spot the sea.

When that coastal panorama proves too much to resist, you'll be happy to learn that the sandy Platja de les Barques is only three minutes' walk away. You'll find a handful of bars and restaurants in the locale too, but for a much vaster choice, Barcelona is only a forty-five-minute drive away.

A 200-year-old farmhouse has been turned into a slick, white-washed hangout. Modernist influences are seen in the rounded walls, arched doorways, and buckled pillars. The living room is far out, from the white pool and foosball tables to the huge semi-circular sofa. The master suite is the most impressive, sending out spaceship vibes with its round bed, droplet shaped fireplace and spacious curved bath. But not even the slinky interiors can compete with Mother Nature, as views over the hills and out to the sea abound from every angle. The garden has been planted with bougainvillea, which showers archways and dining tables with pink blossoms when it blooms. For special occasions, head to the home's club room, complete with a DJ hut and incredible sound system. Life will feel pretty amazing floating in the infinity pool or sipping cocktails on the terrace.

The sea views are expansive and lovely, and there is a small jetty on the lowest level of the home that grants access to Llafranc beach. You might hear some noise from neighbours due to the close-knit manner of the area's buildings, but you're within walking distance of several Llafranc restaurants, and it's easy to enjoy an authentic Spanish stay from this charming home.

Situated in the charming Catalan village of Sant Mori, this elegant apartment is perfect for a small family or for couples visiting this picturesque area. You’ll be within walking distance of the town’s shops and restaurants, with plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed too. The home has a large private garden, a pool, and a shaded alfresco dining area. The inside feels bright and comfy, offering a modern design and plenty of light. Although there’s enough bed space for five, we think the home is best suited for four adults and a child.

This lovely home in Llafranc is perfect for those looking for absolute rest and relaxation. Boasting countryside views, this home is close to the beach and the bars of the town, while being nicely removed from tourist traps. Llafranc is a quiet part of Spain on the Costa Brava, with a stunning coastline and gorgeous beaches. 

The home is bright and cheerful, with bold splashes of colour that add warmth to the neutral palette. Your eye will most often be drawn outside, through the floor-to-ceiling windows that lead onto the large terrace. Trees surround the home, making it feel nicely secluded despite being part of a resort. 

When you’re not by the shared swimming pool – which is huge and inviting – you’ll likely spend most of your time on the terrace. There are sun loungers so sun-worshippers will be content, and there’s a lovely dining area too. You might like to drive fourteen minutes to beautiful Calella de Palafrugell for lunch by the water, and then spend your evenings grilling up local seafood on the barbecue. 

The clear water and soft sand of Platja El Cau are a seven-minute walk away, so days at the beach couldn’t be easier. To really take in the glorious coastline, walk ten minutes to the viewpoint at Mirador de la Divina Pastora. It’s a wonderful spot for sunset.

Inside, beds can be configured as doubles or twins upon request and there’s an office for anyone who’s mixing business with pleasure. Location-wise, Pals Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away and the town of La Bisbal d'Empordà is reached in fifteen.

We loved the contemporary windows that flood the interiors with natural light, providing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. Its stone-walled garden is in keeping with the home’s traditional charm and offers a lovely backdrop to the sunsets over the Pyrenees each night.

Perfectly positioned on a hillside, a ten-minute drive from the pretty town of Begur, this villa is all about sea views and laidback living. Your days will be spent on your private terrace, soaking up every last drop of the Costa Brava sunshine. Perhaps you’ll settle into a lounger with an ice-cold beverage in hand or maybe you’ll swim gentle laps in the glittering pool. When it’s time to eat, set the table on the balcony ready for a Catalan feast whipped up in the no-frills kitchen and if you’d like a quiet moment with your holiday read, the window seat in the bright living space is an excellent spot. Stretch your legs with a twenty-five-minute walk to Sa Tuna, an idyllic cove with a sandy beach – it was our favourite spot to while away the long afternoons. Head home before dusk with a bottle of Cava and watch the sunset melt into the ocean from your enviable vantage point.
