In the second half of July, the neighbourhood stages the annual Festa Major, hosting barbeques, DJs and various events. Tierno feels well looked after and it's clear that this home was put together with care. The style and the colours are both coherent, which is most obvious in the open communal area that leads to the private terrace with a view of Avinguda Diagonal. There are two bathrooms in this home for a maximum occupancy of nine, which is borderline, but if you're ok with that, then you'll fully enjoy Tierno. Sant Antoni is famous for its culinary scene, and its most prominent landmark – Mercat de Sant Antoni – is only a few minutes away.

Gaudí's masterpiece Casa Batlló is a three-minute saunter, while it's a six-minute stroll to Paseo De Gracia with its museums and designer boutiques galore (Gucci, Chanel and Versace, amongst many others). Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, on the other hand, are a ten-minute walk away or visit one of Barcelona's most iconic attractions, the Sagrada Familia, just over twenty minutes on foot.

Back at this home, open the French doors to the balcony and have a seat on the comfy sofa after all that sightseeing. We love the high ceilings here and traditional wall mouldings. And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

Ronda Universitat is close to Plaça Catalunya and the Modernist sights of Eixample. The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Despite the central location, it’s pretty quiet as the rooms look out over the terrace rather than the busy street.

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

Two balconies – one at the front and one at the back of this apartment – provide beautiful views of the neighbourhood and you can even see a little bit of the sea on sunny days. Up on the top floor, natural light floods the rooms. The open living space in soft grey and teal velvet is particularly sunny. Glass doors lead out to the front terrace where waxy green banana leaves sprout from planters and dining is set for four. There’s a lazy hammock in the corner too, so you can take in that rooftop view all the way to the Sagrada Familia. You'll be able to plan your holiday from the comfort of the terrace as Barcelona spreads like a map before you. Located only minutes away from Plaça Catalunya, you'll have easy access to all parts of the city.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

In a traditional building, recently modernised with eco-conscious touches, this character apartment is set between the El Born and Eixample neighbourhoods. With sustainability in mind, the hosts have hand-picked recycled wood for the quirky kitchen cabinets, along with things like vintage glasses and upcycled armchairs. The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. In the evenings, the Port Vell's nearby promenade is filled with great restaurants and cafes, but if you walk the other way towards Poblenou, you won't be hungry either. This is a simple, luminous home, whose design is focused more on functionality than aesthetics. Still, the beautiful view and comfort make it a good option for a small family or a group of friends. 






Windclass Blue

With a fantastic position in the middle of Eixample, this apartment puts you close to many of Barcelona's most famous sights. Even if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the city's streets, you'll be happy to return to this stylish home at the end of the day.

High ceilings and tall windows mean that the interior feels bright and airy, but there's also a Juliet balcony if you want to feel the breeze on your face at any point. There's a lot to like about the design too, with wooden furnishings and surfaces going nicely with the cool grey tiles and eclectic selection of objets d'art. We're fans of the exposed brickwork in the master bedroom, which adds a loft feel to the space, as well as the pristine subway tiling in the bathrooms.

When it comes to sightseeing, the place to start has to be Casa Milà, which lies five minutes' walk from the home. One of Gaudí's other famous creations, La Sagrada Familia, can be reached in twenty-five minutes on foot, too. The Gothic Quarter takes a similar amount of time in another direction.

A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.

Two of Gaudí's most famous works, the Sagrada Familia and Casa Milà are within a fifteen-minute walk of your front door, and if you want to travel further afield then Verdaguer station is just five minutes away.

We love the exposed brickwork and wooden beams of this original flat. These rustic structural features contrast beautifully with modern, understated furnishings and decor. Huge floor-to-ceiling windows open up on balconies overlooking the street, while cushy sofas and flowing curtains add softness to your surroundings. Up on the communal roof terrace, we recommend getting a cold drink and lying back in the sun loungers. This sunny spot is perfect for an iced coffee in the morning, or a chilled glass of wine in the evening. After relaxing up here, head down to street level to check out the bars and restaurants of El Born. It's also a fifteen-minute walk to the beach and just over five to the Parc de la Ciutadella. With the Barceloneta metro stop five minutes from home, the entire city is yours to explore.
