Once you’ve had your fill of ancient cathedrals, secret squares and late-night tapas joints, perhaps hit the beach at Barceloneta, a leisurely walk away. It’s a studio-style apartment, but a room divider provides a little privacy between the bedroom area and dine-in living room. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

This home is ideally situated to see much of what Barcelona has to offer. In the Gothic Quarter, the Cathedral is just six minutes away on foot, while the Plaça del Pi, with its beautiful church that often hosts concerts, is just a nine-minute walk away.

Further afield, why not enjoy a leisurely stroll as you admire the fountains of Cuitadella Park – a short twelve-minute walk from your door, or take a twenty-two-minute walk to Casa Battló to see the incredible architecture and design work of Gaudí. Gothic Greatness

One of several similar holiday apartments in the same building, this tastefully refurbished spot is in the heart of Barcelona, just 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. The elegant living room includes a dining area and there’s a full kitchen for meals at home. We think the second bedroom would be best suited to children as there’s a pull-down bunk and it’s rather narrow. If you’re not using the sofa bed in the living room, this place feels particularly spacious and comfortable.

You'll find this contemporary flat just around the corner from Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla de Catalunya, two of Barcelona's busiest and most vibrant spots. As long as a bit of buzz suits you, we think this central location will make sightseeing effortless – many of the city's must-visit landmarks are either within walking distance or a quick ride away on the metro. Add in the proximity to delicious restaurants, lively tapas bars and fashionable shopping and we think it's an excellent choice.

After a long day exploring, come home to this light-filled apartment and chill out in style. It's a chic mixture of old and new – we particularly liked the tall vaulted ceilings, large windows and traditional French doors leading onto the balcony. Kick back on the cushy sofa with a glass of sangria, then rustle up classic Catalan dishes like pa amb tomàquet and fideuà in the sleek white kitchen. Following dinner, pour yourself another glass of wine and step out onto the balcony to watch the sunset over the city streets – although there's nowhere to sit, we thought it was a great spot to soak up the festive atmosphere of Barcelona. Then, when you're feeling full and sleepy, climb into the comfortable beds and drift off dreaming of tomorrow's adventures.

Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed here, and when it's in use, the socialising space isn't the biggest. There's also likely to be street noise since you're so central. That aside, with a cosy bedroom and full kitchen, it's a comfortable, practical spot to call home.

Ideally located in central Barcelona, this apartment offers great proximity to some of the city’s greatest sights, and attractions. Admire the home’s unique brickwork art as it greets you and welcomes you to Barcelona. Then, head out onto the balcony with your coffee to enjoy the views and the sun on your skin.

There's nothing about this place we haven't fallen in love with. From the historic street it sits on, in the oldest part of the city, to the impeccable styling, it's a hard place to drag yourself away from. A tastefully modernised period apartment in one of the area's typical buildings, we loved the stripped-back original features – think exposed brick walls, high ceilings, ancient wood beams and a pretty, wrought iron balcony. And while we could sit outside all day, sipping tea and watching the world go by, the rest of the apartment is comfortable and practical, with a well-stocked, contemporary kitchen and two bedrooms. You can easily work at the desk all day, if you really need to, then serve dinner at the black dining table. With a mix of neutral colours and rustic textures, it's clear a great deal of thought has been put into making this home a memorable one. In the evenings, slip out to one of the nearby bars or restaurants, and by day explore the Gothic Quarter and walk to the nearby beach.

With the thriving theatre scene of the El Poble-Sec neighbourhood on your doorstep and the must-see sights of the L'Eixample district a stroll away, this is an ideal base for families looking to be close to the action. The bunk beds will be handy for kids sharing, and though the kitchen is pocket-sized, it's surprisingly well-equipped for rustling up simple family meals. Rather eat out instead? There are buzzy tapas bars and restaurants on tap in the streets below. The only thing this bolthole is missing is outdoor space. But the floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony doors are a nice touch to let the sunshine in.

Even if we didn't know this home's location, we'd be inclined to say that 'it's so El Born'. Unique art and furniture capture the neighbourhood's character, so you won't notice much difference between the chic interior and the many trendy tapas bars dotted around the nearby streets. La Baule Gallery has some lovely design assets, such as the exposed brick walls, stone columns enhanced with iron beams, and other industrial details that highlight the high-quality furnishings. There aren't many entertainment options – but in this neighbourhood, you won't be bored.

In a renovated 16th-century building in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, this stylish apartment is a great base for traversing the city. While it may not offer the most inspiring views, the balcony lets in fresh air and limited natural light in the daytime. It’s just 50 meters away from the Gothic Church of St. Maria del Mar, the Picasso Museum, the Cathedral, and the port of Barcelona. The apartment retains some history – restored wood ceilings, original stone walls, and parquet flooring. While the kitchen is fully equipped and up-to-date. Two balconies off the living room looking out over the charming street provide a spot for fresh air.

Just 50 metres from the La Rambla thoroughfare, this central apartment is ideal for travellers seeking a stay among the action. While retaining its historic facade, the interior design is minimal and the space lacks natural light – although the plant-filled patio is a nice touch. Some may find the apartment better for a couple than small groups, as the en-suite bathroom means guests three and four will have to intrude. They'd also be sleeping on a sofa bed, which won't suit everyone. But we can't fault the location. Here in the Gothic Quarter, you're only steps away from Barcelona Cathedral and its surrounding shops and restaurants. 

Barcelona Classic

Sitting on the outskirts of the Gothic Quarter, the interior of this apartment bears some influence from its famous neighbouring area, noticeably in the exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams that were original parts of the building.

Otherwise, it must be said that the design lies on the contemporary side of the scale, thanks to the stark white walls, wooden floor and smooth kitchen surfaces. Some rather subtle underlighting has been incorporated into the walls, but natural light comes from a tall window in the living room that also opens out to a Juliet balcony — just in case you fancy a blast of fresh air at any point.

If you're looking to stay somewhere within walking distance of many of Barcelona's best-known attractions, you're in luck. Both the city's cathedral and Ciutadella Park can be reached in around five minutes on foot, while the Picasso Museum sits even nearer than that.

A Big Heart

Surrounded by museums, markets and neoclassical architecture along the adjacent Via Laietana, this apartment's central location puts you right in the middle of one of Barcelona's most exciting neighbourhoods.

While in other cities, this excellent position might mean a trade-off with the quality of the home, that's certainly not the case here.
