You'll find this contemporary flat just around the corner from Plaça de Catalunya and La Rambla de Catalunya, two of Barcelona's busiest and most vibrant spots. As long as a bit of buzz suits you, we think this central location will make sightseeing effortless – many of the city's must-visit landmarks are either within walking distance or a quick ride away on the metro. Add in the proximity to delicious restaurants, lively tapas bars and fashionable shopping and we think it's an excellent choice.

After a long day exploring, come home to this light-filled apartment and chill out in style. It's a chic mixture of old and new – we particularly liked the tall vaulted ceilings, large windows and traditional French doors leading onto the balcony. Kick back on the cushy sofa with a glass of sangria, then rustle up classic Catalan dishes like pa amb tomàquet and fideuà in the sleek white kitchen. Following dinner, pour yourself another glass of wine and step out onto the balcony to watch the sunset over the city streets – although there's nowhere to sit, we thought it was a great spot to soak up the festive atmosphere of Barcelona. Then, when you're feeling full and sleepy, climb into the comfortable beds and drift off dreaming of tomorrow's adventures.

The elegant living room includes a dining area and there’s a full kitchen for meals at home. We think the second bedroom would be best suited to children as there’s a pull-down bunk and it’s rather narrow. If you’re not using the sofa bed in the living room, this place feels particularly spacious and comfortable.

You'll have the narrow medieval streets of the Gothic Quarter on your doorstep, as well as Barcelona Cathedral, when you stay at this apartment. There's an array of fashionable bars and Catalan restaurants to enjoy, too. As you'd expect, such a fantastic location comes with some street noise, which you may hear throughout your stay if you're a light sleeper. There's nothing about this place we haven't fallen in love with. From the historic street it sits on, in the oldest part of the city, to the impeccable styling, it's a hard place to drag yourself away from. A tastefully modernised period apartment in one of the area's typical buildings, we loved the stripped-back original features – think exposed brick walls, high ceilings, ancient wood beams and a pretty, wrought iron balcony. And while we could sit outside all day, sipping tea and watching the world go by, the rest of the apartment is comfortable and practical, with a well-stocked, contemporary kitchen and two bedrooms. You can easily work at the desk all day, if you really need to, then serve dinner at the black dining table. With a mix of neutral colours and rustic textures, it's clear a great deal of thought has been put into making this home a memorable one. In the evenings, slip out to one of the nearby bars or restaurants, and by day explore the Gothic Quarter and walk to the nearby beach.

This amazing area of the city has narrow streets that will transport you back to the medieval times while the neighbourhood itself is alive with street artists, musicians, small antique shops, artisans, designers, cosy restaurants, tapas bars and cafes, so there is something to meet everyone’s needs. Why not start your mornings here with a breakfast of churros as a soft breeze floats in from the home’s Juliet balcony, which overlooks the narrow, gothic streets below, before heading out for a day of sightseeing?

The character of this well-cared-for home shines out from the moment you open the door, with wood floors, original brick and beam ceilings and tall windows that open to a balcony – a perfect outdoor space for your morning cup of coffee. Modern furnishings like the leather sofa and the dining table make for a home from home feel, while the kitchen is kitted-out for cooking at home. A great choice for a small family, the second bedroom may be on the smaller side but its bunk beds make the most of the space. Even if we didn't know this home's location, we'd be inclined to say that 'it's so El Born'. Unique art and furniture capture the neighbourhood's character, so you won't notice much difference between the chic interior and the many trendy tapas bars dotted around the nearby streets. La Baule Gallery has some lovely design assets, such as the exposed brick walls, stone columns enhanced with iron beams, and other industrial details that highlight the high-quality furnishings. There aren't many entertainment options – but in this neighbourhood, you won't be bored.

With the thriving theatre scene of the El Poble-Sec neighbourhood on your doorstep and the must-see sights of the L'Eixample district a stroll away, this is an ideal base for families looking to be close to the action. The bunk beds will be handy for kids sharing, and though the kitchen is pocket-sized, it's surprisingly well-equipped for rustling up simple family meals. Rather eat out instead? There are buzzy tapas bars and restaurants on tap in the streets below. The only thing this bolthole is missing is outdoor space. But the floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony doors are a nice touch to let the sunshine in.

In a renovated 16th-century building in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, this stylish apartment is a great base for traversing the city. While it may not offer the most inspiring views, the balcony lets in fresh air and limited natural light in the daytime. You'll want to pack light as storage space in the bedroom is tight, but you'll get a good night's sleep before a busy day. With restaurants, shops, and landmarks easily reachable on foot or public transport, you won't get much more central than this.

Just 50 metres from the La Rambla thoroughfare, this central apartment is ideal for travellers seeking a stay among the action. While retaining its historic facade, the interior design is minimal and the space lacks natural light – although the plant-filled patio is a nice touch. Some may find the apartment better for a couple than small groups, as the en-suite bathroom means guests three and four will have to intrude. They'd also be sleeping on a sofa bed, which won't suit everyone. But we can't fault the location. Here in the Gothic Quarter, you're only steps away from Barcelona Cathedral and its surrounding shops and restaurants.

Whether this is your first or hundredth visit to the city, a great location is just as important as the home itself. Luckily for you, Velvet Touch easily matches its location with super sleek interiors, all-modern appliances and exposed brick for a rustic touch in this cutting edge space. Welcoming up to four guests, this is a great spot for a couple of friends or a family keen on getting the most out of Barcelona and its offerings. This wonderful home is located between the districts of the Gothic Quarter and Raval. It's right on the iconic Las Ramblas with its street performers, cafes, restaurants, markets and shops, and it's close to some more of Barcelona's most famous streets. Pedestrianised Calle Ferrán, which leads to the Barcelona City Hall and Plaça Reial, one of the city's most beautiful squares, are both nearby.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

When you’re visiting Barcelona, you want to be in the thick of things, soaking up the atmosphere of the vibrant city and seeing how the locals live. This apartment ticks every box in that regard. 

Just a four-minute walk from the cathedral, this apartment couldn’t be any more central. In the morning, stroll through the Gothic Quarter and take in the incredible architecture. Pop into a cafe for breakfast and a coffee, and sit outside in a plaza watching the world go by. Later on, you might want to hit the beach, or perhaps take a walk around the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, which is just seven minutes from the apartment. 

Of course, there’s great shopping nearby, in addition to the museums and galleries. You’re also in one of the best cities in the world for food, so take a tour of the tapas restaurants on your way back to the apartment. Once there, crack open a beer on the roof terrace – bliss.

In a building which has stood for 120 years, your historic flat takes a different approach inside. Modern, minimalist, and relaxed, the bright living space features understated furnishings with a monochrome colour scheme. This cleverly allows its original architectural features to stand out – vaulted brick ceilings, timber beams, and exposed brickwork remind you of Barcelona of old.

Since ascending the stairs to the fifth floor is thirsty work, we recommend pouring yourself a chilled glass of Catalan wine. Surrounded by museums, markets and neoclassical architecture along the adjacent Via Laietana, this apartment's central location puts you right in the middle of one of Barcelona's most exciting neighbourhoods.

While in other cities, this excellent position might mean a trade-off with the quality of the home, that's certainly not the case here. Retaining the high wooden-beamed ceilings and sections of exposed stonework from the original building, the recently renovated interior is serenely stylish, with chic furnishings, subtle lighting and a minimalist kitchen to boot. 

As well as a pair of French doors leading to a Juliet balcony in the living room, the building also benefits from a communal roof terrace so you can soak up some sunshine during the summer months. If you'd prefer a larger green space, Ciutadella Park takes just over seven minutes to reach on foot. Somorrostro Beach is only a twenty-two-minute walk away, as well.

What this studio apartment lacks in size, it makes up for in location. Barcelona's El Born neighbourhood offers restaurants, museums and bars right on your doorstep. Interested in sightseeing? The Cathedral of Barcelona, Parc de la Ciutadella and the beach are all within easy reach. Despite its small size, the kitchenette is well-equipped and the all-in-one space is ideal for solo travellers or couples. There isn't a whole lot of natural light here, as the only window faces a basilica – but the typically-Spanish Juliet balcony is a nice touch.

Sitting on the outskirts of the Gothic Quarter, the interior of this apartment bears some influence from its famous neighbouring area, noticeably in the exposed stonework and wooden ceiling beams that were original parts of the building.

Otherwise, it must be said that the design lies on the contemporary side of the scale, thanks to the stark white walls, wooden floor and smooth kitchen surfaces. Some rather subtle underlighting has been incorporated into the walls, but natural light comes from a tall window in the living room that also opens out to a Juliet balcony — just in case you fancy a blast of fresh air at any point.
