El Poble Sec is not only one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Barcelona, but it’s also the best place access to Montjuïc, the 173-metre-high mountain overlooking the city. This apartment has been renovated fairly recently, and the result is a contemporary space that will delight guests. The open-plan setup makes socialising easy – pop open some Spanish wine and chat to your fellow travellers as you put arrange some tapas to enjoy together. The private balcony is a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee in perfect peace, and there's even more outdoor space on the shared roof terrace. Flop down on one of the loungers to catch some rays, or make friends with your neighbours over a cool drink. The surrounding area is packed with little pavement cafés where you can watch the world go by, along with theatres and bars. If we could choose one street out of the thousands in Barcelona to lay our hats for a stay in the city, it would always be the leafy, pedestrianised Carrer d'Enric Granado of the L'Eixample district. And luckily for you, it's the setting of this oh-so-elegant apartment. Brimming with highly-brunchable cafes, ice-cream parlours, and galleries and within walking distance of the city's must-see sights, you couldn't dream up a better location. 

Inside, vaulted ceilings dating way back to the 1800s bring all the wow factor – while a glorious mishmash of heirloom-worthy antiques and curated artwork add layers of interest and authenticity. Guests rave about the careful attention to detail here and we couldn't agree more. There's a dedicated desk area to keep on top of emails, a slick kitchen, and two fully modernised bathrooms, complete with rainfall showers to kick start your day.

But the clincher for us has to be that lavish living room with panoramic views of the city from the Juliette balcony. Grab yourself a freshly brewed coffee and peer out over the balcony to watch city life awaken below along its leafy avenue – it's everything you imagined it would be.

The central location of this convenient address is a great asset and if this is your first visit to Barcelona – it doesn't get much better than this. Enjoy being within walking distance of all the best shops, restaurants, and cultural sights including Casa Batllo and Gaudi's other spectacular works of art (a ten-minute walk away). With so much to see and do nearby, catching some respite from the city is easy here – as a soothing colour palette with calming wood tones and soft furnishings create a space boasting comfort and practicality. Sink into the plush "L" shaped sofa with a cup of tea, before running a bath and unwinding for a quiet night at home. For evenings when you're feeling most energised, lap up the ease of going on nights out too – it would be rude not to make the most of being able to walk out here after all. And of course, if you do plan on venturing further afield in the city, you'll have bus stops and metro stations within less than five minutes reach too.

Looking to the African desert for design inspiration, this Eixample apartment is dominated by earthy tones, natural materials and a few houseplants to add a burst of bright colour. Other aspects are a little more contemporary – you only have to look at the minimalist white kitchen to see what we mean.

Even though it sits among one of Barcelona's most bustling districts, there's something innately relaxing about the space, whether you're listening to a vinyl record with a breeze blowing in over the Juliet balcony or enjoying a meal cooked with locally bought ingredients on the round dining table.

And when it comes to sightseeing, you don't have far to venture from your front door. The mighty Sagrada Familia is less than a quarter of an hour's walk, as is Parc de la Ciutadella in the opposite direction. You're especially well served by cafes and restaurants in the surrounding streets, too.

Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, on the other hand, are a ten-minute walk away or visit one of Barcelona's most iconic attractions, the Sagrada Familia, just over twenty minutes on foot.

Back at this home, open the French doors to the balcony and have a seat on the comfy sofa after all that sightseeing. We love the high ceilings here and traditional wall mouldings. There's a gorgeous, modern four-poster bed as well – this place is perfect for a couple or friends looking for a bolt hole in Barcelona.


Modern Romance

Fabulously located in the heart of Eixample, within easy walking distance of many of Barcelona's key sights, with a beautiful living space full of lovely period details and a spacious master-bedroom with its own private terrace, this home is a delight. Bedrooms two and three are both extremely small, but we won't hold this against an otherwise fab home. The living space might just be home to the most beautiful flooring in the Plum Collection – we are obsessed!

It's clear that Gingerbread Cinder was designed by a professional – original vaulted ceilings and exposed brick walls are a challenge to pull off, but these guys succeeded using minimal, high-quality furniture. This is an immaculate home with lots of natural light and several external balconies, perfect for people-watching. Located in Barcelona's 'it' neighbourhood El Born, you'll be within walking distance to the most famous sights, as well as local hidden gems. 

Gingerbread Cinder

We love this home in Barcelona – it boasts some of the best views over Gaudi's iconic Casa Milà and L'Eixample. Housed in a 120-year-old renovated building, floor-to-ceiling windows let the daylight in, while traditional tile details and a mixture of old and new furniture give this place soul. Prepare some tapas in the sleek, grey kitchen and enjoy at the dining table or head to L'Eixample’s celebrated dining scene, just over a five-minute walk away. If the vistas from your apartment of Casa Milà have whetted your appetite to see some more, then it's a mere three-minute stroll. Or, browse the high-end boutiques in the area, then head to La Rambla de Sant Jose (also known as La Rambla de les Flors) and pick up some flowers. You'll undoubtedly be glad you picked this apartment.

Back at this recently renovated apartment, we loved the characterful living space with its exposed brick walls, which are more than 200 years old and its high ceilings with wooden beams. The cute balcony is perfect for enjoying a glass of Cava while watching the comings and goings on Las Ramblas. This place is ideal for atwo couples or business professionals.

The mini-bar with local eco soaps, toothbrushes, beers, wine and juices is a nice touch and there's nothing like stepping out onto your little balcony, glass in hand, and taking in the sights and sounds of this vibrant area. Bedrooms are calm and quiet, and all the more beautiful thanks to their Catalan tiled floors, high ceilings and tall windows. But our favourite thing about this charming place is the hosts, who live in an apartment on the top floor and are welcoming and knowledgeable. They'll look after your bags before or after checkout, welcome you with a local breakfast and even allow you to use their beautiful roof terrace from time to time – where you can see across the city to the sea.

Eixample is the residential heart of Barcelona and famous for its modernist architecture – a prime example being the handsome building that this apartment sits within.

Inside, the design is a little more contemporary than the exterior, although there's a preference for mid-century furnishings that are currently en vogue. The white walls and bare wooden floors are reminiscent of some of the city's modern art galleries, especially with the large art prints dotted about the place. As well as that, the kitchen is both sleekly finished and decently sized, just in case you fancy a home-cooked dinner at any point.

The home's biggest perk, however, has to be the long balcony that stretches across the front of the address and overlooks the street below. Although it's not large enough to sit out on, it's still more than big enough for a burst of fresh air and a spot of people-watching. The tall doors leading out to this space also bring plenty of natural light into the interior, as well.

When you want to see a little more of the city, this apartment puts you in an excellent location to do so. As well as a wide range of restaurants and nightlife venues in the immediate vicinity, there are some of Gaudi's most famous projects to be discovered within walking distance, including Casa Batlló under a mile away. Barceloneta Beach is only 2.3 miles away when the weather calls for sunbathing and swimming in the Med.

Given its spot in the heart of the action, you may need to contend with some street noise throughout your stay. But there’s plenty to appreciate inside, not least of all the pad’s private terrace – perfect for sunny breakfasts and evening glasses of wine. The decor isn’t the most inspiring here but a sizeable kitchen will be appreciated by chefs of the group. And the home’s locale close to Casa Batlló, Casa Milà and Plaça de Catalunya makes sightseeing a cinch.

This flat's earthy tones and use of natural materials gives the space a warm and cosy vibe – and we adore every inch. Design-wise, the style here is rustic and a little bit bohemian, with rattan furniture, crochet artwork and swoon-worthy exposed brick walls. Everything you'll need is taken care of by your lovely hosts – the glossy kitchen has basic ingredients and cooking gear, the flatscreen comes equipped with Netflix and Apple TV services and the home manual is the most thorough one we've ever seen. And despite the shared lobby entrance being off a busy road, the apartment is sat at the back of the building and is relatively quiet, making it an excellent spot to relax, unwind and sprawl out after a busy day exploring. Speaking of, you'll find this flat in lively Eixample, a hub of cultural attractions, Gaudi architecture and high-end boutiques. The Cathedral of Barcelona is only a thirteen-minute walk, while Mercado de La Boqueria is ten minutes on foot – head there for fresh produce and local ingredients when you feel like cooking. Whether you want to grab brunch or stroll through a museum, people-watch in a square or dance the night away at a nightclub, this area is rife with adventure.
