One of architect Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces, the Casa Milà, is just a twenty-minute walk or a nine-minute ride from this home. For some green space, head to Turó Park, with its elegant water features, pretty flower beds and winding paths, a seven-minute amble away. Or just take a stroll around this historic neighbourhood, home to Barcelona University and the restored 1930s market, Mercat del Ninot (eleven minutes on foot), which is great for seafood tapas.

Back at this home, we love the Moroccan inspired design inside – this and the living area’s vaulted ceilings and exposed beams were the first things to catch our eye. The earthy tones create an oasis of calm. Open up the french doors to the cosy balcony with its potted Sansevieria and cactus plants and listen to the sounds of Barcelona. Past the kitchen, there’s a dedicated workspace if you need to catch up on work or if you fancy writing a blog about your time in this fabulous city.

Starting in the living space, the exposed brickwork of the vaulted ceiling is sure to catch your eye. Colourful, oversized, abstract art adorns the walls, and art-deco-style furniture invites you in to settle down. All of this is illuminated by natural light flooding in from the glass doors of your private terrace, our favourite part of the home. Sip a glass of wine next to the olive tree while you gaze out to views of modernist buildings and blue skies. If you head back down to ground level, check out the main thoroughfare to find an array of vibrant bars and restaurants where you can spend the evening. Eixample is the residential heart of Barcelona and famous for its modernist architecture – a prime example being the handsome building that this apartment sits within.

Inside, the design is a little more contemporary than the exterior, although there's a preference for mid-century furnishings that are currently en vogue. The white walls and bare wooden floors are reminiscent of some of the city's modern art galleries, especially with the large art prints dotted about the place. As well as that, the kitchen is both sleekly finished and decently sized, just in case you fancy a home-cooked dinner at any point.

The home's biggest perk, however, has to be the long balcony that stretches across the front of the address and overlooks the street below. Although it's not large enough to sit out on, it's still more than big enough for a burst of fresh air and a spot of people-watching. The tall doors leading out to this space also bring plenty of natural light into the interior, as well.

When you want to see a little more of the city, this apartment puts you in an excellent location to do so. As well as a wide range of restaurants and nightlife venues in the immediate vicinity, there are some of Gaudi's most famous projects to be discovered within walking distance, including Casa Batlló under a mile away. Barceloneta Beach is only 2.3 miles away when the weather calls for sunbathing and swimming in the Med.

Such is the great design of this Eixample apartment, there are balconies leading off from both of the bedrooms and the large living area. We can guarantee that these outdoor spaces will be a godsend on sunny afternoons, which are not unheard of in Barcelona.

These doors to the outdoor space also have the added benefit of bringing plenty of natural light into the interior, which dances pleasingly off the grey wooden floor. The furnishings throughout are Scandi in style, with a preference for wood and clean lines, although both the kitchen and bathroom are more contemporary in style.

When you fancy seeing a little more of the city, the iconic Casa Milà takes ten minutes to reach on foot and another one of Gaudi's finished projects, Casa Batlló, takes only slightly longer. A little further afield, Tibidabo theme park is a forty-minute journey on public transport.

The bright lounge is cosy and comfortable, the kitchen is well-appointed to rustle up meals at home, and one bedroom has a dedicated workstation if you're travelling on business.

Something of a slow-burner, Oliana grows on you the longer you stay. There’s enough to remind you that you’re in Barcelona – the brick ceiling, in particular, keeps you anchored in the city, as does the view of Tibidado. It’s not especially lavish, but there’s something genuine about it, and that also extends to the surrounding area. There are still tourists about (this is Barcelona, after all), but not in the droves you might get in other neighbourhoods.

Plus, you're just three minutes away from the closest metro, Muntaner. From there, you can get to some of Barcelona's famous hotspots easily. Gothic Quarter, Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, La Sagrada Familia, and many more, are all reachable within twenty-five minutes from door-to-door. 

If you want to stretch your legs, Parc del Turó is a particularly lovely place to have a stroll, just an eight-minute walk away. The mystical winding paths take you to an oval-shaped pond, covered with lily pads. For a different kind of park, head to Park Güell and admire the distinct Catalonian architecture of Gaudí. You can get there by metro in twenty-five minutes, or walk along and enjoy exploring the streets of Barcelona for thirty-eight. All this walking is sure to make you hungry, and Barcelona certainly isn't short of its restaurants. If you want to stay in your neighbourhood, Bar Omar is just a four-minute walk away and does incredible tapas. Or, head to PATRÓN, a three-minute walk from home, for incredible seafood and live music.

But there's more to this home than just tradition – the headboard in the master bedroom is made of upcycled windows and we can't ignore the beautifully crafted French doors either. Located in the residential streets of Gràcia, you'll get to enjoy authentic Catalan flavours with easy access to the Casa Mila and Eixample's grandeur.

In the elegant Vila de Gràcia barrio, you’re in for a treat if you’re looking for a more realistic experience of Barcelona living. Just over 3 km away from the bustling tourists in the Gothic Quarter, this region is full of restaurants, theatres, cinemas, independent boutiques, and of course some Gaudí charm. This apartment is just a four-minute walk from Casa Vicens, a striking example of one of the architect’s earlier works. But unlike this building and its surroundings, this home feels more like a Japanese mountain retreat. Step inside to wood-panelled walls and fabrics, woven feature pieces, and a mural of swallows and bamboo bringing a zen-like state to the apartment. While there’s still a taste of traditional Catalan elements, such as patterned tiles on the floor, and a classic wrought-iron balconette, the decor simply oozes Japan. In the serene bedroom, keep your head down at the workspace, then step into the lounge when the clock hits 5 pm to turn up the record player and sip chilled cava. For a weekend escape from this peaceful palace, it’s just an eighteen-minute walk to the colourful, awe-inspiring mosaics of Park Güell – quite the contrast.

To get stuck in with the hustle and bustle, head to Passeig de Gràcia, just a seventeen-minute walk away. There, you'll find enchanting Gaudí architecture, as well as many shops, cafes, and eateries. Exploring a city by foot is always a great way to experience it, but Barcelona's metro system does help get across the big city. The apartment is just three minutes away from the closest metro, Muntaner. From there, the city is your oyster. Gothic Quarter, La Sagrada Familia, Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, and many more, are all reachable within twenty-five minutes. Being out and about all day, you'll be dying to relax and Barceloneta beach is the ideal place for that, it's a big stretch of sand hugging the Mediterranean Sea with people playing volleyball and swimming all day. It's a thirty-nine-minute metro journey door-to-door, but it's worth it to sip sangria, swim, and bask in the sun, before watching it dip into the sea come dusk.

Impeccably clean, cosy and comfortable it's perfect for longer stays. The bedrooms are spacious and the storage space is generous. 
The wifi is exceptionally speedy and the well-organised kitchen is fit for purpose. The bathrooms are a little dated for our liking, but they're functional nonetheless. And as it's in a quiet residential area, a good night's sleep and total tranquillity are guaranteed. Nearby parks, shopping areas, cafes, and interesting sights are all closeby. 



A Touch of Magnolia

Set in the prestigious residential district of Sant Gervasi – Galvany, it's easy to see why this home caught our eye. Set back from the tourist hotspots, be prepared to hop on the Metro for sightseeing. Although with upscale bakeries, bistros and cocktail bars on your doorstep, you may decide to keep things local. While there's not much of a view at this home, the sleek, modern interiors and little private courtyard for pre-dinner aperitivos more than make up for that. There's also a dedicated desk space for remote working – if you must.

A Door Into Galvany

Survey chic cafés, boutiques and bodegas from this trendy loft apartment in untouristed Gràcia. Mix up a pitcher of sangria and flop into a bamboo lounger on the roof – moving is strictly optional on this vacation. If the heat gets too much though, retreat to you air-conditioned duplex where you’ll find expertly curated, high-end furniture to curl up on. The kitchen comes with a sleek marble worktop, cookware and coffee maker. Should you need to work from home, you’ll find an unfussy office upstairs. There’s also a second, smaller private terrace next to the master bedroom, ideal for your morning coffee.

La Pared

Looking to uncover the real Barcelona? Forget Las Ramblas and head north to Sant Gervasi, with its leafy squares and authentic, laid-back tapas bars. The inside of the home is elegant and simply furnished, with a soft sage and grey colour scheme, keeping things light and calm. Vibrant prints on the wall give a nod to Barcelona’s art legacy and beautiful potted houseplants add an extra touch of character. Mix yourself a jug of sangria, decorate a plate with some Iberica ham and get comfortable on one of the two sunny balconies. The smaller leads off the second bedroom and the larger, accessed from the living room, is scented with potted lavender and rosemary, and has glorious views of the city’s honey-coloured buildings. Here you'll be within striking distance of the city's biggest attractions, and close enough to the local park to go for a run every morning – if you really feel the need.

Like the colour of a sun-baked beach, this flat on the edge of Barcelona’s elegant Gràcia district is full of nods to the city’s gold sand coast. From its caramel-washed walls to its decorative wooden surfboard, hanging fisherman’s net and potted palms, you’ll instantly feel awash with calm in this chic, laid-back home. After a luxurious shower in the tiled bathroom, enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony or hang out in the hammock with a good book. Then catch up on some work - if you really must - at the second bedroom’s desk before going out to explore the sights. Walk along Gràcia’s narrow streets full of galleries, indie boutiques and arthouse cinemas, then rent a bike to visit Barcelona’s beaches and gorgeous Gaudi buildings sprinkled throughout the city. This minimally furnished home is perfect for those who like their space. Dancing Shoes is impeccable, sleek, and boasts enviable great urban views over Eixample – seeing the postcards sights of Barcelona will be effortless from your base on Avinguda Diagonal. Although this home doesn't have a lot of characterful furniture, we still liked the high ceilings and the abundance of natural light.
