Eixample is the residential heart of Barcelona and famous for its modernist architecture – a prime example being the handsome building that this apartment sits within.

Inside, the design is a little more contemporary than the exterior, although there's a preference for mid-century furnishings that are currently en vogue. The white walls and bare wooden floors are reminiscent of some of the city's modern art galleries, especially with the large art prints dotted about the place. As well as that, the kitchen is both sleekly finished and decently sized, just in case you fancy a home-cooked dinner at any point.

The home's biggest perk, however, has to be the long balcony that stretches across the front of the address and overlooks the street below. Although it's not large enough to sit out on, it's still more than big enough for a burst of fresh air and a spot of people-watching. The tall doors leading out to this space also bring plenty of natural light into the interior, as well.

When you want to see a little more of the city, this apartment puts you in an excellent location to do so. As well as a wide range of restaurants and nightlife venues in the immediate vicinity, there are some of Gaudi's most famous projects to be discovered within walking distance, including Casa Batlló under a mile away. Barceloneta Beach is only 2.3 miles away when the weather calls for sunbathing and swimming in the Med.

Such is the great design of this Eixample apartment, there are balconies leading off from both of the bedrooms and the large living area. We can guarantee that these outdoor spaces will be a godsend on sunny afternoons, which are not unheard of in Barcelona.

These doors to the outdoor space also have the added benefit of bringing plenty of natural light into the interior, which dances pleasingly off the grey wooden floor. The furnishings throughout are Scandi in style, with a preference for wood and clean lines, although both the kitchen and bathroom are more contemporary in style.

When you fancy seeing a little more of the city, the iconic Casa Milà takes ten minutes to reach on foot and another one of Gaudi's finished projects, Casa Batlló, takes only slightly longer. A little further afield, Tibidabo theme park is a forty-minute journey on public transport.

The neighbourhood is quiet, safe, and well situated for exploring the rest of Barcelona. We do love exploring cities on foot but Barcelona is a big city so a metro system that is quick, reliable, and inexpensive is always helpful. Plus, you're just three minutes away from the closest metro, Muntaner. From there, you can get to some of Barcelona's famous hotspots easily. Gothic Quarter, Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, La Sagrada Familia, and many more, are all reachable within twenty-five minutes from door-to-door. 

If you want to stretch your legs, Parc del Turó is a particularly lovely place to have a stroll, just an eight-minute walk away. The mystical winding paths take you to an oval-shaped pond, covered with lily pads. For a different kind of park, head to Park Güell and admire the distinct Catalonian architecture of Gaudí. You can get there by metro in twenty-five minutes, or walk along and enjoy exploring the streets of Barcelona for thirty-eight. All this walking is sure to make you hungry, and Barcelona certainly isn't short of its restaurants. If you want to stay in your neighbourhood, Bar Omar is just a four-minute walk away and does incredible tapas. Or, head to PATRÓN, a three-minute walk from home, for incredible seafood and live music.

Something of a slow-burner, Oliana grows on you the longer you stay. There’s enough to remind you that you’re in Barcelona – the brick ceiling, in particular, keeps you anchored in the city, as does the view of Tibidado. It’s not especially lavish, but there’s something genuine about it, and that also extends to the surrounding area. There are still tourists about (this is Barcelona, after all), but not in the droves you might get in other neighbourhoods.

In the elegant Vila de Gràcia barrio, you’re in for a treat if you’re looking for a more realistic experience of Barcelona living. Just over 3 km away from the bustling tourists in the Gothic Quarter, this region is full of restaurants, theatres, cinemas, independent boutiques, and of course some Gaudí charm. This apartment is just a four-minute walk from Casa Vicens, a striking example of one of the architect’s earlier works. But unlike this building and its surroundings, this home feels more like a Japanese mountain retreat. Step inside to wood-panelled walls and fabrics, woven feature pieces, and a mural of swallows and bamboo bringing a zen-like state to the apartment. While there’s still a taste of traditional Catalan elements, such as patterned tiles on the floor, and a classic wrought-iron balconette, the decor simply oozes Japan. Impeccably clean, cosy and comfortable it's perfect for longer stays. The bedrooms are spacious and the storage space is generous. 
The wifi is exceptionally speedy and the well-organised kitchen is fit for purpose. The bathrooms are a little dated for our liking, but they're functional nonetheless. And as it's in a quiet residential area, a good night's sleep and total tranquillity are guaranteed. Nearby parks, shopping areas, cafes, and interesting sights are all closeby.

Away from the tourist crowds, this home is in the heart of a safe and quiet neighbourhood. If you want somewhere to slip away from the buzzing city and able to relax, while being close enough to explore it all, this cosy apartment is the perfect base.

Exploring a city by foot is always a great way to experience it, but Barcelona's metro system does help get across the big city. The apartment is just three minutes away from the closest metro, Muntaner. From there, the city is your oyster. Gothic Quarter, La Sagrada Familia, Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, and many more, are all reachable within twenty-five minutes. Being out and about all day, you'll be dying to relax and Barceloneta beach is the ideal place for that, it's a big stretch of sand hugging the Mediterranean Sea with people playing volleyball and swimming all day. It's a thirty-nine-minute metro journey door-to-door, but it's worth it to sip sangria, swim, and bask in the sun, before watching it dip into the sea come dusk.

Set in the prestigious residential district of Sant Gervasi – Galvany, it's easy to see why this home caught our eye. Set back from the tourist hotspots, be prepared to hop on the Metro for sightseeing. Although with upscale bakeries, bistros and cocktail bars on your doorstep, you may decide to keep things local. While there's not much of a view at this home, the sleek, modern interiors and little private courtyard for pre-dinner aperitivos more than make up for that. There's also a dedicated desk space for remote working – if you must.

A Door Into Galvany

You’ll find this apartment in the Sant Gervasi neighbourhood, where fine dining establishments line the Avenida Diagonal, and Turo Parc is a tranquil spot to enjoy a picnic. For trips to Barceloneta Beach or the Gothic Quarter, there is a bus stop a short walk away. Back at the pad, rustling up home-cooked meals in the well-appointed kitchen is soundtracked by an album played on the turntable. You're never far from the action at this smart bolthole set in a happening pocket of the Dreta de l'Eixample – famed for its iconic Gaudí architecture, chic boutiques and countless tapas bars. While there's no outdoor space (this is central Barcelona, after all), the separate office space will come in handy for guests in the city for work. If three of you share, one guest may feel they've pulled the short straw with the smaller single bedroom without a window. But don't let that be the deal breaker. Back at this home, we love the Moroccan inspired design inside – this and the living area’s vaulted ceilings and exposed beams were the first things to catch our eye. The earthy tones create an oasis of calm. Open up the french doors to the cosy balcony with its potted Sansevieria and cactus plants and listen to the sounds of Barcelona. Past the kitchen, there’s a dedicated workspace if you need to catch up on work or if you fancy writing a blog about your time in this fabulous city.

Gracious Oasis

Grand, beautiful and stylishly bohemian, this apartment in Barcelona’s Eixample Esquerra neighbourhood provides a luxuriously relaxing stay within easy reach of the city’s most iconic sights. Inside, the decor has been playfully curated to juxtapose light and dark, with pale wood accents contrasting against deep-hued feature walls to create an intimate space that instantly feels soothing. We love the eclectic furnishings – from the low-slung sofa with its statement neon light to the mixture of chairs around the large dining table – and the original ornamental fireplace that adds a touch of grandeur to the laid-back, bohemian furnishings. The kitchen is any home cook’s dream with its neutral cabinetry, compact island and floor-to-ceiling blackboard, while the two bedrooms provide the perfect canvas for a dreamy night’s sleep with their earth-toned palettes and grasslands-inspired ornaments. Our favourite feature of the home, however, is the large private terrace equipped with a sofa, a table and chairs. Whether you’re kicking back with your morning coffee, gathering here over a jug of sangria or sitting down to a meal beneath the glow of the fairy lights, you’ll love having this outdoor space to catch some Spanish rays and indulge in the balmy air. Looking to uncover the real Barcelona? Forget Las Ramblas and head north to Sant Gervasi, with its leafy squares and authentic, laid-back tapas bars. Barcelona’s bohemian Gracia is a design-lover’s paradise. This is where you’ll find Antonio Gaudi’s masterpiece Park Güell, as well the kitsch foreign-language cinema Cine Verdi and cutting-edge boutiques on Carrer Verdi. So if you’re staying here, it really needs to be in a home that pushes the boundaries design-wise. Try this smart and sultry apartment on for size. It has space and natural light in abundance, but it’s the host’s keen sense of style that makes this home such a superb stay. We love the ornate Catalan tiles next to warm parquet wooden floors in the kitchen, and the open-plan living room's butter-soft leather sofa. The bedrooms offer comfort and drama in equal measure, with dark walls and sumptuous bedding. But the best bit must be the balcony, with views across the city. Pour yourself a glass of sangria and watch the buzz on the streets beneath you.

For a laid-back bohemian vibe in Barcelona, look no further. This stylish apartment is the king of cool, with a balcony that serves as the jewel in the crown. 

The interior is chic and relaxed, with neutral shades blending with natural woods and wicker, and soft furnishing adding texture. Stepping through the door of this home, you instantly feel your stresses melt away. And that’s before you’ve even cracked open a chilled beer on the balcony. 

A lovely open-plan living and dining space begs for entertaining, whether it’s everyone sitting around the breakfast bar first thing, or rounding off your evenings with a nightcap together. There’s heaps of space and seating, so your downtime really does feel restful, however hectic your days. 

A twenty-four-minute walk will take you to Casa Batlló, where you can get to know everything Gaudi. On the way back, you’ll pass by Casa Mila, another of his masterpieces within walking distance – it’s twenty minutes away. If you like to explore on foot, all of the hot spots are within an hour but you can easily hop in a cab to give your legs a break. 

Plaza Espana is twelve minutes away by car and is easily one of Barcelona’s most iconic sights. Sip coffee and take in the history of the square – there are also plenty of restaurants nearby if you’re looking for lunch. If you need a break from the heat, head to the beach for a dip in the sea. A cab from the apartment to Barceloneta Beach takes twenty-three minutes, yet it feels like a different part of the country entirely.
