We didn't expect to find a home like this in an unassuming building like the one that hides the Trojan Horse. It's obvious that an interior designer was involved in the curation of this stylish home — there's a consistent theme of industrial chic, that's best expressed by the bare brick wall and sleek lampshades. There's an abundance of natural light with two balconies extending the clutter-free and clean living space and helping this relatively small home maximise its assets. Find a sunny reading spot by the window on a Wegner-inspired chair and gather around the vibrant dining area for convivial coffee and churros – we loved the bright yellow chairs. Both bedrooms benefit from tasteful scatter cushions, throws and quirky headboards that make for a light and airy spot to relax with a magazine. From Gràcia, all the major sights are well within walking distance, including the Sagrada Familia under twenty minutes away. Explore the local neighbourhood, stopping off at its trendy cafes and family-run eateries – wherever you are, a jug of sangria and a plate of paella are never too far from hand.

Housed in a Belle Epoque, 19th-century building this apartment's interior is just as striking as the outside. A steady theme of chocolatey tones paired with minimalistic furnishings made us feel like we were in the home of a deep thinker. Still, there are small details that breathe some warmth into the flat – the Catalan hydraulic tiles on the floor, the modern art on the walls, and the red velvet seats on the balcony. The balcony has a perfect people-watching view over the leafy boulevard below. The kitchen as black as backstage at a theatre and dramatically downlit, but it's not all style over substance as the cupboards are packed with everything you could want for self-catering. Should you need to catch up on work, the second bedroom doubles as an office. When it comes to clocking off you couldn't be better placed with Passeig de Gracia one block away, where Gaudí's masterpiece 'La Pedrera' and famous hotels like Omm and Hotel Casa Fuster reside. The apartment itself is in the 'Cuadrat d'Or' (Golden Square), an area packed with bars, restaurants and high-end shops galore.

Located on one of the main veins of Barcelona’s sprawling network of streets – Avinguda Diagonal – this apartment has an air of importance. The local area is home to Gaudí masterpieces such as Casa Milà, an eleven-minute walk away, and this striking flat certainly does its best to compete. Starting in the living space, the exposed brickwork of the vaulted ceiling is sure to catch your eye. Colourful, oversized, abstract art adorns the walls, and art-deco-style furniture invites you in to settle down. All of this is illuminated by natural light flooding in from the glass doors of your private terrace, our favourite part of the home. Sip a glass of wine next to the olive tree while you gaze out to views of modernist buildings and blue skies. If you head back down to ground level, check out the main thoroughfare to find an array of vibrant bars and restaurants where you can spend the evening. As the Diagonal metro stop is only a six-minute walk from home, you’ll be able to explore other areas of the city too. Did someone say ‘beach day’?

This minimally furnished home is perfect for those who like their space. Dancing Shoes is impeccable, sleek, and boasts enviable great urban views over Eixample – seeing the postcards sights of Barcelona will be effortless from your base on Avinguda Diagonal. Although this home doesn't have a lot of characterful furniture, we still liked the high ceilings and the abundance of natural light.

In the vibrant Eixample district of Barcelona, just two minutes from the Diagonal metro, this apartment is a luxurious escape right in the heart of this bustling metropolis. As you step into the marble-clad, tiled corridor with stained glass windows, this elegant entrance already tells you a lot about this home. The beautiful tiles continue right into the flat, with original hydraulic mosaic flooring in grey, black, and a warming terracotta. While the furniture is understated throughout, it creates a very comfortable, minimalist vibe which is a pleasant contrast from the busy neighbourhood outside. You can peer out to this kingdom with ease, with not one but two private balconies to choose from. While either one is a perfect spot to enjoy a cold glass of vino blanco, we absolutely love the terrace with views of Gaudí’s Casa Milà – a truly iconic sight of Barcelona. Your private view of its striking, wavy rooftop is a real privilege of staying in this home. You even can visit it up close, just a three-minute walk away. Or continue on a tour of Antonio’s famous buildings with an eighteen-minute stroll to the awe-inspiring Sagrada Familia.

Nestled in Gràcia, this apartment may not be the biggest and the views aren’t the most inspiring with neighbouring homes to look at, but it’s well-equipped and comfortable for a city break – and the desk is an added bonus, making remote working a breeze. Its enviable location makes it a great spot for sightseeing, or you can stroll the streets and find boutiques, cafes, wine bars and restaurants. For an afternoon soaking up the Spanish sun with the locals, take a trip to Plaça de Sol.

With floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of Barcelona's most rebellious architecture, the best thing this home offers is sightseeing from the comfort of your sofa. Both the furniture and art are a pleasant unobtrusive mix of the old and new, showing that the host knows how to fill a space with meaningful pieces without making it look cluttered. But we have to admit – although it's well-designed, the layout of this home is a bit peculiar, with the kitchen fashioned inside a corridor and a tempered glass bathroom separating the second and third bedroom.

When home is only a three-minute walk from Casa Milà, you can be quite sure that you’re living in the heart of Barcelona’s buzzing Eixample district. But how about if you can see directly across to its ornate rooftops from your own private terrace? The exclusive location of this apartment is only made better by its magnificent design and decor. Upon arrival at the majestic wooden door, you can tell that this historical building is full of charm. With a vintage wooden lift taking you up to the attic – better known as a penthouse in the 21st century – we love its old-fashioned character. Inside, the wooden theme continues with a striking piece of art in the lounge, but this time surrounded by modern interiors. The furnishings are minimalist, with neutral tones and white walls bringing a fresh vibe. However, this is all to make way for the apartment’s most exciting features – two terracotta terraces for alfresco drinking, dining, and admiring jaw-dropping views. If you do manage to make it back down to street level, Diagonal metro is a two-minute walk. But when you can see Gaudí’s masterpieces from home, you might want to stay put.

Something of a slow-burner, Oliana grows on you the longer you stay. There’s enough to remind you that you’re in Barcelona – the brick ceiling, in particular, keeps you anchored in the city, as does the view of Tibidado. There are still tourists about (this is Barcelona, after all), but not in the droves you might get in other neighbourhoods.

Dreamboat actually used to be a hostel, which explains why every bedroom has its own en-suite and cosy nooks. The building is beautiful, with features from the nineteenth-century, and a gorgeous terrace engulfed in greenery. The kitchen isn’t made for cooking (it’s lacking basic appliances like an oven and equipment), but why not use this as a chance to explore some of the local restaurants in the area?

With vaulted ceilings and azulejo-tiled floors, the Wind Vault is a perfect stay for those who will appreciate touches of Catalan design. But there's more to this home than just tradition – the headboard in the master bedroom is made of upcycled windows and we can't ignore the beautifully crafted French doors either. Located in the residential streets of Gràcia, you'll get to enjoy authentic Catalan flavours with easy access to the Casa Mila and Eixample's grandeur.

Three minutes from the Fontana metro, and four from the bustling main boulevard, this home is ready to meet your needs. Stepping inside to original tiled floors, exposed brickwork, and rich wooden French doors to the balcony, this is a space where you can relax in style. The interior designer took inspiration from Ribeira Sacra, one of Spain’s most important wine regions. You’ll notice cork detailing throughout the home, as well as other subtle homages to the much-loved tipple – we love the handmade, cork headboard in the master bedroom. If all this makes you thirsty for a glass of vino, your neighbourhood has plenty of options for elegant bars and restaurants. However, we think local sights are in order first. One of Gaudí’s lesser-known pieces, Casa Vicens, is just a four-minute walk. Its chequered tiles and bright colours are as awe-inspiring as you’d expect, without the queues of sights like Casa Milà. Still, when it’s just a sixteen-minute walk, you might as well visit the whole collection.

In the elegant Vila de Gràcia barrio, you’re in for a treat if you’re looking for a more realistic experience of Barcelona living. Just over 3 km away from the bustling tourists in the Gothic Quarter, this region is full of restaurants, theatres, cinemas, independent boutiques, and of course some Gaudí charm. This apartment is just a four-minute walk from Casa Vicens, a striking example of one of the architect’s earlier works. But unlike this building and its surroundings, this home feels more like a Japanese mountain retreat. Step inside to wood-panelled walls and fabrics, woven feature pieces, and a mural of swallows and bamboo bringing a zen-like state to the apartment. While there’s still a taste of traditional Catalan elements, such as patterned tiles on the floor, and a classic wrought-iron balconette, the decor simply oozes Japan. In the serene bedroom, keep your head down at the workspace, then step into the lounge when the clock hits 5 pm to turn up the record player and sip chilled cava. For a weekend escape from this peaceful palace, it’s just an eighteen-minute walk to the colourful, awe-inspiring mosaics of Park Güell – quite the contrast.

You’ll have a beautiful view of Eixample, a neighbourhood full of Gaudi’s masterpieces – Casa Milà is just around the corner, a three-minute walk away, while Casa Batlló is eight minutes away. Plus, you can be at La Sagrada Familia, his unfinished masterpiece, in just seventeen minutes. Beyond the modernist architecture, you’ll find delicious tapas bars and boutique shopping. Back at home, a minimalist Scandi style works well to create a relaxing environment above the busy streets. Neutral colours and high-quality materials emphasize texture, but there are still a few details that remind us that we're situated in an old modernist building – such as the tempered glass above the sofa.
