In this rural haven, there is plenty of room to bask in the sun. The two single beds in one of the bedrooms make it ideal for bringing your children on vacation, especially with the sparkling pool in the backyard. Float on your back while gazing up at the blue sky; here's your reminder to wear sunscreen. The cottage's interior has a rustic motif and is large enough to accommodate a family.

Gather the family around the wooden table, which features a unique autumnal tree feature. Though this may slightly block your view while attempting to talk to your loved ones, you have to admit that it looks fantastic. While sipping a martini on the wooden roof area, listen to your children's laughter as they play in the pool.

We recommend renting a car when staying here due to the property's remote location. The nearest beach is about a twelve–minute drive away, and the restaurants and stores in the area are only accessible by vehicle, unless you like long walks. However, in a location like this with gorgeous views, is a long walk really a bad thing?

Not everyone may fall in love with the rusticness, but the house is roomy and sunny, and with two separate casitas, the whole family can have their own private space. Children will love the matura woodland garden and swimming pool, whilst adults will appreciate drinks and alfresco dining on the shaded terrace.

Located on a resort on the outskirts of Estepona, this apartment lies in a private village with a plethora of communal facilities to make your stay special. Choose from water sports in the lagoon, taking a dip in the communal pool, dining at one of the beach restaurants or unwinding in the shared saunas and Jacuzzis. Even if you're staying indoors, there's space in the garden for sunbathing and in the sunroom for enjoying a home-cooked meal. Although communal facilities are within walking distance, we recommend having a car for visiting Marbella and Estepona's city centre, as well as the nearby golf course.

Spend lazy days moseying between the sun beds and the hammock, occasionally cooling off in the fresh water of the pool. For a more lively itinerary, get rallies going during table tennis before you settle into the excitement of the evening.

Inside, the place is simple yet functional, and while the bedrooms are basic, they’re certainly comfortable.

Set to the backdrop of the Serranía de Ronda, this charming villa is a rural retreat for the whole family. In the cosy living area, exposed stone walls, traditional wooden shutters and dark timber beams create a characterful space to unwind and reset. We also love the kitchen, which is well-stocked to rustle up whatever meal tickles your fancy, including classic Andalusian dishes like asparagus soup and borrachuelos (Málaga's version of doughnuts).

But it's the sun-kissed outdoor spaces that make this home stand out. Get your morning started with a café con leche on the terrace, then pad down to the private pool and while away the afternoon in the refreshing water. After a leisurely dip, stretch out on the lounge chairs for a siesta in the sun – or just enjoy a glass of sweet wine and work on your tan. As the day comes to an end, tuck into an alfresco dinner while watching the stars appear above the mountaintops.

Speaking of mountains, Parque Natural Sierra de Grazalema is a goldmine for walking and hiking. Pack a picnic and hit the trails, relishing the fresh air and sprawling views. For a change of scenery, visit Ronda, about 22km away. You can easily spend the afternoon wandering the town's cobbled streets and admiring the stunning 18th-century bridge straddling the El Tajo gorge.

Nestled within the striking mountaintop city of Ronda, surrounded by ancient architecture, stone bridges and Roman baths, this charming villa is the perfect place to relax and take in the majestic scenery. You'll be right in the heart of the deep ravine that separates the old town and the new, surrounded by history, with a picture-pretty garden from which to look up and admire the view. Start your days with a cup of coffee on a sumptuous sun bed followed by a relaxing swim across the private pool. The home itself showcases plenty of traditional charm, with whitewashed walls and wooden beamed ceilings, but if you're keen to soak up as much culture as possible, there's plenty to explore outside of your own front door. 

Spend your days wandering around museums and the El Tajo gorge before driving to Cueva de Gato to cool off in the natural river pools. If you're feeling peckish, there are plenty of authentic restaurants where you can sample tapas and sangria, but we highly recommend buying some fresh ingredients – Ronda is known for its delicious olives – and heading home to fire up the grill. The rustic outdoor kitchen makes preparing local dishes a dream, which are best enjoyed alfresco on the stone patio. Complete the meal with a Spanish dessert and a glass of wine while you watch the sunset over the city. 

The Rustic Ravine

This villa in Vejer de la Frontera offers a rural yet convenient location just under 10km from the beautiful Cadiz coast. Though this single-level home feels somewhat dated and may not suit those who are more design-conscious, there’s everything you need for a comfortable stay (except for bath towels, which you'll need to bring yourself). Outside, guests can relax on the sunloungers with a glass of sangria, kids can make the most of the pool, and you can all gather on the patio for a barbecue as the golden hour approaches.


More Than a Dream

This Andalusian home is a cute getaway for a small family or group of friends. Though the home is quite traditional, it is well-kept and features a fully-equipped kitchen and open-plan dining area. Outside, there’s a barbecue area to cook Spanish delicacies, and although the pool is on the small side, it’s still a welcome amenity during those hot summer days. The hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera with its whitewashed houses is a short drive down the road, where you’ll find a mix of points of interest and numerous eateries.
