Looking for a one-of-a-kind home with a heaven-sent view to boot? Well, they don’t come more character-filled or awe-inspiring than this. Perched high on the hills of Granada and just a short drive from the sandy shores of Lake Iznajar, this ancient church is lovingly reimagined into a unique retreat for relaxation and reflection. 

Step inside, and the house seems so frozen in time you can almost hear the old church bell ring. Ochre-washed walls and vaulted ceilings bring all the historic charm, and in the central nave now lies a vast double-height living space. And don’t get us going on those hand-painted frescoes – best admired from upstairs on the lofty mezzanine level. And there are some surprising flurries of 21st-century living to indulge in here, too. Starting with that infinity pool with a counter-current swim jet to bank some laps as you soak up the jaw-dropping vistas of the Cordova Subbética mountain range.

As night falls, the home takes on a truly magical feel, with the lights of the nearby town, Algarinejo, flickering on and a blanket of stars twinkling above. Cosy up on the Balinese bed outside with drinks to catch a shooting star – we can’t think of a finer spot to toast a day’s end.

In Seventh Heaven

Sitting plumb in the middle of the Andalusian countryside, this modern villa is something we’d call ‘just right'. The place guarantees a relaxing stay from start to finish – there are comfy sofas in the open-plan living space, a fully-equipped kitchen for those who like to flex their culinary muscles and an all-important pool to keep you cool on those scorching Spanish afternoons. After a refreshing dip, dry off on a lounger or retreat to the shaded terrace for a glass of something fruity. 

Slink off to the quiet bedrooms for a quick siesta and when you’re ready and raring to go, drive down to Málaga for its sixteen sunny beaches and charming old town. Sharpen your history knowledge at the Picasso Museum followed by a guided tour of the Alcazaba. In the early evening, watch the sky turn violet from Playa la Malagueta then seek out a Michelin-recommended for a supper you’ll never forget. 

Say Yes

If you think of an authentic Spanish home in the mountains, you’ll likely be picturing this villa. It’s a fine example of a traditional home in Spain, with tiled floors, exposed brick, and wooden beams. Best of all, it’s an oasis far from the tourist crowds of the cities. This villa sits in a rural spot just outside of the small town of Alora, in the Guadalhorce Valley. Dramatic mountains dominate the skyline surrounding the home, so your eye is constantly drawn to the view. It’s a rustic escape in a tranquil part of Spain, where you can really focus on relaxing and making happy holiday memories. 

The villa is comfortable and welcoming, with all the basics you might need for a break. If you’re anything like us though, you’ll be spending most of your time outside – it’s where this home really shines. The covered terrace with a barbecue and outdoor dining area is perfect for every meal, whether you’re sipping your morning coffee with pastries, or settling down to languid lunches that evolve into late-night feasts. All the while, the sweeping view of the mountains serves as a breath-taking backdrop. 

When you’re not dining alfresco, you’ll be swimming in the private swimming pool, or soaking up the sun alongside it. Revel in the peaceful setting as you float in the cool water, feeling the warmth of the sun on your skin. It’s absolute bliss. 


Mountain Mirage

Under the soft gaze of the surrounding mountains, this whitewashed home shines with the beauty of southern Spain. 

Just a short drive from the town of Alhama de Granada, the rustic charm of this setting feels instantly welcoming. From the spectacular views and traditional interiors to the luxurious garden, swimming pool and tennis court, every detail inspires a wonderful sense of relaxation. So whether you’re here for a rural retreat or an active adventure, it’s easy to connect with the natural abundance of this location. 

Inside, you’ll find ample space for relaxing and spending quality time together – the dining table lends itself perfectly to intimate candlelit dinners while cosy evenings can be spent by the fire. Outside, the garden welcomes you to enjoy the restorative power of this unique setting. From refreshing dips in the swimming pool to long soaks in jacuzzi, you’ll find yourself refreshed and ready to explore. 

Days can be spent hiking across the spectacular Sierra Nevada mountains trails, sightseeing and exploring the beautiful villages and towns of the region – the majestic city of Granada is less than an hour’s drive away. 

Paradise Place

Located 2 kilometres from Cordoba’s historic centre, this fuss-free apartment offers practicality and comfort in equal measure. Two private terraces equipped with outdoor seating are a highlight here, as is the home’s access to the building’s communal swimming pool (open seasonally). When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find a bus stop nearby that will whisk you into the city in no time. Alternatively, take advantage of the free garage parking here to embark on further explorations of the Andalusian region. 


Mambo Melody

Surrounded by olive and almond trees with the sea breeze dancing through the air, this is the kind of home that transports you to the heart of Mediterranean living. 

Set within the rugged landscape of the Sierras de Tejeda and Almijara, you’ll find a traditional Spanish home brimming with character. From the honey-coloured interior to the wooden beams, stone arches and rustic styling, every detail inspires a wonderful sense of welcome. 

Outside, the porch opens up to mesmerising views across the horizon. Featuring a private swimming pool and barbecue area, this is the perfect setting for rejuvenating dips and long lazy lunches in the shade. 

From here it's just a short atmospheric drive into the whitewashed town of Cómpeta, while the shimmering coastline of the Costa del Sol is also within easy reach. When you aren’t exploring the beaches and coves on the coast, you’ll find ample opportunities for hiking, horse riding, cycling and golfing. 

Mountain Spirit 

When you want to escape to the sunshine, you can’t do better than this delightful villa. It can be found in Antequera, in the rolling countryside hills of Andalucia. Admire the rustic views as you lounge beside the private swimming pool – the outside space here really is something special. 

A huge covered porch surrounds the villa, offering a splendid spot for your alfresco breakfast, an afternoon doze, or pre-dinner cocktails. Sun loungers surround the swimming pool, with a delightful Balinese-style day bed proving the most popular. Lie back with a good book, and enjoy the gauzy drapes fluttering in the breeze. 

Inside, the villa is warm and welcoming. A brick fireplace has pride of place in the living room, making this home a great choice for winter escapes too. It’s a bright and open villa – you’ll feel at home in no time. 


Hillside Happiness

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

Gazing at the Horizon

This rustic, rural home in the Andalusian countryside is perfect for those in need of some good old-fashioned R and R. Nestled in the Serranía de Ronda and surrounded by olive trees you’ll be afforded the great privilege of getting back to nature. Make the most of the peace and quiet and recline or read on the sun loungers in the garden before cooling off with a refreshing dip in your private pool. After having indulged in some much needed me time, why not spoil friends and family and spend the afternoon preparing a feast of grilled meat and fish on the barbecue?  Serve up and dine alfresco on the covered terrace. Later on, savour a siesta, or, if you’re feeling competitive, play at ping pong before gathering, wine in hand, to watch the sunset behind the mountains. At chillier times of year, you’ll love cosying up in the living cum dining area for a card game by the fire.

Alternatively, if you fancy stretching your legs, this home’s superb southern Spanish location offers something for everyone. Adventure seekers will be glad to know that there are plenty of activities on offer nearby – as well as hiking and biking you’ll be able to try your hand at canyoning, paragliding, kayaking, and caving – while culture vultures will delight in visiting the magnificent mountaintop city of Ronda. The wonderful white town of Sentenil de las Bodegas is also within easy reach.


Siesta Siesta

Drink up the Andalusian sun and hit reset at this dazzling villa nestled in the Olvera countryside. Surrounded by olive grove-studded hillsides for as far as the eye can see, this home offers utter peace and seclusion. But when you fancy dipping your toes into the local culture, Olvera town is just a short drive away, with its 12th-century castle and traditional restaurants delivering all the Andalusian charm you're chasing.

Back home, you'll love this newly built villa's pristine, contemporary interiors and that magnificent wraparound shady veranda. With panoramic views of the surrounding hillsides, it's the perfect spot for lazy morning coffees or a glass of Moscatel wine at golden hour. And the vistas are just as impressive at night when the sun slowly dips behind the mountains and the lights of the surrounding fincas flicker on.

When it's time for a change of pace, take your pick from the villa's two pools. A heated spa-worthy pool indoors is prime for morning soaks after a workout in the dedicated gym space. But when the sun shines, it's outside hopping between that outdoor pool and vast panoramic terraces where you'll really want to be.  

The Olive Route

This home in the Andalusian countryside is very much away from it all. There’s nothing but olive groves, rugged hills and the odd farmstead for miles. The closest town is around a fifteen-minute drive away – El Saucejo – where you’ve got supermarkets for supplies and a handful of local restaurants and bars. Plus, the pretty town of Ronda with its famous gorge and the historic city of Seville are both around an hour’s drive away, ideal for a day trip or two.

Life here is all about embracing the slow pace – lying up on a lounger by the swimming pool as orange trees provide natural shade. Finding a secluded spot on the stone patios and settling in with a good book. Or, perhaps gathering for rustic lunches in the shade of the outdoor dining area, surrounded by old-world farming tools – a nod to the villa’s history. 

Inside, it’s got the look of an old farmhouse with a brick fireplace at the heart of the living room, wooden beams on display and darkwood furniture that feels as though it’s been in the family for generations. We love the gnarled wood and iron motif that sings of agriculture in the 19th century. The farmhouse-style kitchen is a colourful spot thanks to green-washed cupboards and peach tiles, and the dining room is a great spot for the group to gather at the end of the day. The traditional feel continues in bedrooms where windows look out over the countryside and iron-framed beds await for sound sleep in the peace and quiet. 

Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice

A stay here is like floating in the sky. It's the feeling of being isolated from the world, but more connected than ever to it. Situated high up at a wonderful vantage point gazing over the Andalusian region of Valle del Guadalhorce, this villa will provide friends and family with a magnificent place to create memories. The patio area is where you'll be spending most of your time – and for good reason. As soon as you step outside of the back door, you'll be greeted by one of the most jaw-dropping views. Find a quiet spot to do some morning yoga or splash around in the pool during the afternoons. Either way, you'll always feel connected to the nature around you. We especially think you'll love meal times spent on the terrace. Serve up a big bowl of paella valenciana and feel like the mountains have been invited to dinner with you. Thankfully, they're quiet guests!

Being located in such a rural area means you have plenty of hiking opportunities within a short distance. We recommend the thirty-minute drive to Caminito del Rey. It's a beautiful walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro. Admission is cheap and well worth it for amazing photo opportunities. After your day out hiking, you'll look forward to returning home to a place packed with as much character on the inside as the landscape outside. With a fireplace to snuggle up around at the end of a long day exploring, you'll feel right at home in this traditional Spanish countryside villa
