Neighbouring an olive farm in the Andalusian countryside, this villa is blessed with a truly idyllic location and as such, guests are sure to find it easy to switch off here. 

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is most likely to happen outside, especially with the swimming pool overlooked by loungers, the stone outdoor kitchen with a barbecue and an alfresco dining table on the verandah on which to enjoy the fruits of your labour.

However, it's just as easy to relax inside the home too, whether you're sinking back in the whirlpool bathtub big enough for two or cuddling up next to the fireplace. The design has a rustic feel, as best seen with the wooden beams in the high-ceiling dining room or the exposed stonework in the living room. We should also mention the balcony just off the kitchen, which is a lovely spot for coffee first thing in the morning.

In the local town of Montemayor, there's a decent choice of restaurants and bars that are reachable on foot, but you'll find even more – plus plenty of historic architecture – in the city of Córdoba, about thirty-five minutes' drive away.

What’s more, you’ve got a shimmering saltwater pool in which to while away the hours, as well as a ping pong table for some friendly competition. 

While you could easily spend all day basking in the glorious views and making the most of your home’s fabulous amenities, take time to explore nearby El Gastor (2.8 kilometres away), or take a day trip to beautiful Ronda – perched on a deep gorge – 42 kilometres from your door.

Blessed with a peaceful position in the Andalusian countryside, this rustic home is nearly two centuries old and if anything, it's getting more charming as the years go on.

The main reason for this is the way that the hosts find a balance between retaining period features with adding more contemporary amenities. Behind the home's whitewashed walls, you'll see wooden ceiling beams and a traditional fireplace, but also a modern kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms.

Given the local climate, you will probably want to spend as many waking hours in the open air as possible and there are plenty of ways to do just that across the ten-hectare site. Not only is the swimming pool especially cooling on hot afternoons, but it also looks out over sweeping views of local hillsides. If you're ever in need of a little shade, there's lots of space to sit and relax beneath the leafy pergola, too.

The address sure does feel secluded and the nearest village – Cómpeta – is just over two kilometres away, offering a small selection of shops and restaurants. A little further afield, the coastline lies about 20 kilometres away and there's a great selection of beaches from which to pick.

Situated in Íllora, at the foothills of the Sierra Parapanda, this villa provides ample space for a family or group of friends. The interiors are traditional, if not a little dated, though we think it adds to the charm. Outside, there’s a furnished terrace, a summer kitchen with a barbecue and a private pool for cooling off during the warmer months. After a game of table tennis, why not explore your surroundings? Granada is around a thirty-minute drive away.

It's a beautiful walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro. Admission is cheap and well worth it for amazing photo opportunities. The Mountains Came to Dinner

The owners of this former mill have gone to great lengths to preserve its original spirit. In fact, you can admire its impressive traditional features whilst relaxing in the living room or cooking in the kitchen. And while there’s plenty of rustic charm, there are also contemporary comforts here too – including the private swimming pool and outdoor bar area. From here, lazy days can be spent relaxing at home, admiring the beautiful views or exploring the Andalusian countryside. You’ll find Villanueva de Tapia is just 4.3 kilometres away, while the beaches of the Costa del Sol are 60 kilometres away. 

Golden Fields 

High in the Andalusian hills, this home boasts fantastic views across the mountains. Access is via a dirt road, so a car is a must, but the secluded area and rural scenery make the steep, winding trek worth it. The one downside of this location is the lack of a nearby beach – you'd have to drive about 45 kilometres to reach the coast – but a private pool will do the job when you fancy a dip. The design is a bit more rustic than we'd like, but it's roomy inside and out. That said, as there are just two bathrooms between all ten guests and only room for six around the dining tables, we suggest a lower occupancy here.

Gazing at the Horizon

This beautifully restored 19th-century Andalusian farmhouse is an eco-friendly retreat that offers the perfect blend of traditional charm and modern luxury. It’s surrounded by hectares of private farmland where horses, pigs and sheep roam free. It feels like a step back in time with a traditional country kitchen and a cottage-like living room inside, but there’s also a modern kitchen for 21st-century cooking. Within the sprawling gardens, you’ll find plenty of places to dine and unwind with a view of the Andalucian hills and the swimming pool is naturally treated with salt water. For supplies (perhaps for a barbecue), the quaint mountain town of Alcalá del Valle is 3 kilometres away.

Tucked away in the heart of the Andalusian countryside, this gorgeous holiday home is the perfect setting for a country escape with friends or family. Inside, simple but stylish furniture complements traditional design features, resulting in gorgeous living spaces that you’ll be more than happy to linger in. Throw open the wooden shutters and unwind in the light-drenched living room or make a beeline for the fully equipped kitchen, where you’ll find everything you need to whip up a Spanish-inspired feast for you and your entourage. 

As much as we love the interior here, it’s the outside space that really captured our imagination. Boasting a gorgeous outdoor swimming pool and breath-taking views of the Andalusian mountains, this is the perfect place to while away long summer afternoons. Stretch out on one of the poolside sun loungers and settle in for a day of sunbathing or beat the heat with a leisurely swim. Chances are it’ll still be warm when night falls, so why not hang around out here for a glass of wine and a spot of stargazing before turning in for the night?

Outdoors, this home really sparks into life. The split-level terraces mean you have a selection of places to take in the beautiful view across Frigiliana as far as the beaches of Nerja. Lazy days relaxing on a lounger with the sun’s rays warming your skin as you soak up those vistas will never get old. If the heat becomes a little stifling, cool off in your private pool before lighting the barbecue and settling down to an alfresco meal with loved ones. With an abundance of flowers peppered around the terraces leaving their delicate floral scent hanging in the breeze and the company of those dearest to you, you’ll feel so completely at home, you may never want to leave.

And, if you fancy a day trip, you can drive to the bustling coastal city of Malaga in roughly an hour for a day at the beach.
