With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

Step outside to explore the surrounding streets. You're bound to find plenty of hidden gem cafes and eateries to sample some of the most delicious local cuisines. Ventura Rodriguez metro station is a short walk away, though you can also stroll to Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace in about twenty minutes. Back home, there's a practical yet cosy living space. The kitchen is well-appointed for rustling up light bites, while three bedrooms offer respite after a long day on your feet. If you're looking for a laid-back stay, this pad is a great choice.

A work of art in its own right, this home dazzles with its rose gold accents and blend of modern and desert-inspired trimmings. Glamorous details like grid glass partitions, a swish sixties tray ceiling, frosted glass doors and pendant lighting create a luxurious feel throughout, and we’re especially fond of the large windows that give way to rooftop views over the neighbourhood.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

When you see as many flats as we do, you learn very quickly to tell which homes have been done up for convenience, and which are a labour of love. Toquilla clearly falls into the latter category. It’s been designed as a whole, with thought and attention put into the schemes, as well as the materials. We particularly liked the concrete pillars and the glass walls, neither of which are especially common in Madrid. The only real complaint we have is the fake plants – They’re understandable for the convenience, but really, most places would be better off without anything.

The Narcisse is only a few minutes away from Calle Fuencarral, one of our favourite shopping streets in Madrid. To say that it's centrally located is an understatement, especially since this home is practically surrounded by Malasaña's finest quirky cafes and restaurants. Narcisse is an ambitious home – the golden details are risky but well-balanced with calmer tones, and the layout is (rightfully) focused on maximising the natural light, which mostly comes from the French doors. But in the end, this home won us over with the urban view.

Perfect for a couple or solo traveller, this home has everything needed for a comfortable stay. In the city on business? There’s even a dedicated workstation for catching up on emails after hours – though you’ll also find a selection of co-working spaces nearby. Locally, you’ll find eateries ranging from authentic Spanish restaurants to seafood specialities, so whatever your taste, there’s something for everyone.

If you did want to feel the energy of the city from your apartment, we suggest taking a seat on the balcony. A small, intimate table rests at the end of the balcony – an idyllic spot to sit with a glass of sangria or cup of coffee. 

Once you've felt the fervour of the city from the balcony, get out and explore the beguiling streets and charming plazas. For a cultural afternoon, visit the array of galleries and museums, stopping off for an empanada on the way. 

For the foodies, Madrid is bursting with top-class restaurants. Find menus spanning the globe alongside quintessentially Spanish dishes. After you've enjoyed sumptuous food, take the scenic route back home to burn off the paella and discover the city's hidden gems.

This home puts Chamberí's diverse bars and shops on your doorstep. Moments from the Paseo de la Castellana, you'll have excellent public transport links too. While we love the bright interior, it may be a better pick for light packers, as there isn't a lot of space in the bedrooms for storage. It's a shame the dining area doesn't seat six, though the kitchen offers another table for two. How about sunset-watching on the balcony after a day spent exploring Madrid?

Calle Almagro is probably one of the most iconic streets in Chamberí. Historically, the elites have fled central Madrid in hopes of finding a quieter vibe in this neighbourhood, leading to low-key chic architecture, great restaurants, and bars. Mucha's Jungle has an atypical interior design that reminded us of a Soho townhouse. The wooden floor is a piece of art on its own, and there are lots of beautiful design details dotted around. In spite of the fact that it looks a lot bigger, this is a small attic home, which is perfect for all who thrive in pretty, cosy spots.

With a big and luminous living room that transforms into a home cinema, Lovefield is a great stay for those who like to strike a balance between spending their time sightseeing and relaxing at home. The neighbouring streets of Chueca are filled with great bars and restaurants, but they're also well-connected to the city centre. One of the bedrooms in Lovefield doesn't have a window, but otherwise, the design is well-thought-through and coherent.

Seeking a stylish base in Madrid? This apartment is just the ticket. You'll find it near Chamberí, only a short walk from the metro connecting you to the best of the city. From shopping on Gran Vía to dining in nearby restaurants, there is plenty to see and do here. Neither the kitchen nor some of the bedrooms are the biggest, but it has all the essentials for a hassle-free stay. Just note that though there's space for five, we think it's a better fit for four.

Settle into the Spanish lifestyle with a stay at this fantastic apartment in the vibrant Malasaña district. With plenty of room for a family or group of friends, you can kick back and relax between adventures, making the most of this beautifully designed space. 

The living area is a haven of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's cloaked in soft pastel tones, and has plenty of comfortable seating where you can curl up with a glass of Rioja at the end of a long day. The kitchen is perfect for cooking up your favourite dishes, which you can serve at the chic dining space, complete with stylish pendant lighting and parquet flooring. And, there's even a breakfast bar where you can enjoy a quick bite to eat and a fresh coffee from the Newspresso machine before you get going in the morning. 

The surrounding barrio is full of indie coffee shops and market stalls lining the winding streets. It's a great place to while away a day as you browse the vintage boutiques, before enjoying a craft cocktail at one of the local bars. And, Madrid's grandest sights are within easy reach too – the Palacio Real de Madrid is just fifteen minutes away on foot, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum is just over twenty minutes away.

It’s worth noting there is no private parking available here, but there are great public transport links – ensuring smooth connections with the rest of Madrid. Wherever the day takes you, the private terrace lends itself perfectly to evening drinks. There is also a dedicated desk for remote workers, while the Bluetooth speakers mean you can relax to the sound of your favourite playlist.

With this apartment you get the best of both worlds – it’s situated between the traditional Chamberí district and the vibrant Malasaña neighbourhood. The Centro de Cultura Contemporánea Condeduque is a short stroll away, as is the Liria Palace. There’s a wide array of eateries within walking distance as well, offering cuisines from Spanish to Japanese and Persian. We love the large open-plan living space at this home – this room also sleeps guests three and four on a sofa bed. There’s a desk here too for when you need to work while staying in Spain’s capital city.

Chamberí Light

This apartment is located in the Malasaña-Universidad barrio in Madrid. The neighbourhood is known for its mix of 18th-century architecture and contemporary street art. Plaza del Dos de Mayo with its many bars is a short stroll away, while the Conde Duque Cultural Centre and the Chueca district are both within walking distance. The apartment itself has an open-plan living room, while one bedroom has a desk – perfect for catching up on work. The second bedroom is a little bit more compact but has everything you need for a comfortable night's sleep and it has views over the rooftops and city.

A Madrid Masquerade

Located in the elegant Almagro neighbourhood, this stylish yet functional apartment is a short walk from cafes, restaurants and bars. Plus, the Royal Palace and Retiro Park are around twenty minutes away by metro. The home is ideal for holidaymakers and business travellers – there’s a desk for remote working and a furnished balcony for enjoying the sunshine. While the kitchen is fully equipped, space is limited, so we’d recommend cooking light bites rather than full meals.

Sure, it’s fuss-free in design and some of the spaces are a little cosy, but you’ll find everything needed for a comfortable stay here. And for us, location is key. Some of the iconic hotspots in the local area include the Royal Palace of Madrid and the Almudena Cathedral. Ready to venture further afield? Hop on the nearby metro to explore the city with ease.

Tucked away in a typical Madrid townhouse in Chamberí, Grottino is a great base to explore the city. The streets surrounding this home are part of a neighbourhood that's just as opulent as Salamanca, yet closer to the old centre – which is great for a first-time visitor. Grottino might not be the brightest home in our collection, but a lot of care has been invested in designing the lighting in this small home, so that it resembles an urban chalet. We particularly liked the brick wall in the bathroom and the chic kitchenette.

This bright, bohemian apartment is an excellent home from home in Madrid. It’s ideally suited to families, tucked away in a residential area but still in a prime central location. 

The apartment is an instant mood-lifter, with bright colours at every angle. A floor-to-ceiling patio window brings light into the living space, and is the perfect place to sip your morning coffee. There are quirky touches galore, and rustic elements like terracotta floors and the exposed brick behind the piano add depth. It’s a comfortable space too, with plenty of room for lounging around while you’re taking a breather from seeing the sights. 

It’s only an eleven-minute walk from Gran Via, which is a great place to begin your exploration of Madrid. Whether you’re there to splash some cash or plan to stick to window-shopping, you’ll love strolling along the streets that connect the plazas. For a slightly more laid-back introduction to the city’s sights, walk twenty minutes to Plaza Mayor. Take a seat in the plaza, lined with historic red buildings, and sample some local vino as you watch the world go by.

From here, you’re within walking distance of restaurants, bars and iconic sights, including the Royal Palace of Madrid, Plaza Mayor and the San Fernando Fine Art Royal Academy. The apartment is modern and practical, though it does lack natural light. A fifth guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed, and the two en-suite bathrooms will help speed mornings along, so you can head out and spend more time exploring all that Madrid has to offer.

Residential Chamberí might not be smack in the middle of Madrid's theatre scene, but if you're in town to relax and see it on your own terms, then you'll appreciate the quieter neighbourhood. Paquelin is a comfortable home in the heart of it, immaculate and simple. With only a few art prints on the walls (which we thoroughly enjoyed) and generally inobtrusive furniture, it's the kind of home that will best suit an adventurous family who will make it their own. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but it's still well equipped and bright.
