Occupying a spot in the Puente de Vallecas neighbourhood, this contemporary apartment is perfect for those who want to be far from the bustle of the city centre but well connected to the capital’s best bits. Hop on the metro and arrive at the manicured Retiro Park in thirty minutes or stretch your legs with a ten-minute stroll over to the Cerro del Tío Pío Park for unbeatable views of Madrid. If sightseeing is on the agenda, head into the Centro district for the Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía and Royal Palace. 

Inside the home, it’s calm and collected with Nordic-inspired furnishings and natural textures that add an inviting warmth to the place. The kitchenette is equipped with everything you need for putting together traditional Spanish dishes and the bright living area is the perfect place to unwind with an evening glass of wine. This is a quirky apartment tucked behind Atocha station. The bold style decisions, including a coral photo print on the pillows, or a fish chandelier (you can see a theme forming), might not be to everyone's taste, but they certainly make this home unique. The Sea Change is comfortable, bright, and it has a balcony that's been converted into a study. Although slightly farther away from the museums, all the sights around Retiro are still accessible on foot and the area around Atocha hides tonnes of great restaurants and cafes.

Stark white walls and smart wooden floors are a timelessly chic combination and make for a blank canvas against which colourful furnishings and accent walls really stand out – not to mention a couple of towering house plants. The super-sleek kitchen is not only easy on the eye but also has enough surface space for whipping up family-sized feasts.

The local area is a little more residential than the city's more touristy areas, but Madrid's most famous sights aren't too far away, either. You can reach the southern side of the Parque de el Retiro – recently added to UNESCO's World Heritage list – in twenty minutes by bus, while the striking architecture of Gran Vía is only half an hour away on the metro.

If you’re seeking a quieter location in the vibrant city of Madrid, this pad might be for you. Situated in Puente de Vallecas, this modern apartment is just a ten-minute walk from two metro stations, so you can be easily transported to the city centre when you’re ready to catch the sights. There’s plenty of space for a family or group of friends, with your host able to provide a cot and high chair for little ones, though please note two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room. And while the kitchen is only equipped for light bites, we think you’ll want to sample Madrid’s’ eclectic culinary offerings.

A six-minute stroll from the Nueva Numancia station, this minimalist apartment offers great public transport links for sightseers and commuters alike. Indoors, this home keeps things simple with its Scandinavian style, but climbing the stairs to the third floor won't work for everyone. That said, we think that the free toiletries and baby travel equipment offer a thoughtful touch to holidaymakers. Greenery awaits at the Real Jardin Botanico, and the Paseo del Prado Boulevard is a thirty-minute metro ride away.

There’s room for dining and sunbathing here, while there’s a distinctly stylish Nordic aesthetic indoors. One of the beds is in the living room behind a room divider, and at full capacity, another two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the lounge too, which may not suit everyone. Though not in the centre, this area has a young vibe and good travel connections – Puerta del Sol is a direct twenty-minute metro ride away, while the Royal Palace is under thirty minutes.

With plenty of international restaurants and amenities on your doorstep, this ground-floor apartment offers a stylish space for groups seeking a laid-back stay in Madrid. The contemporary living area has an open-plan layout that's great for casual itinerary planning. While the complimentary toiletries are a nice touch, having only one bathroom will mean waiting your turn. It's not the most centrally-located area. That said, two metro stations are within a ten-minute stroll from your door, and sights including the Royal Palace and city parks are easy to get to.

The space is minimal but perfectly practical for remote workers and those wanting a comfortable spot to return home after a busy day of sightseeing.

We also recommend making a beeline for Tío Pío's Hill (a fifteen-minute walk) whose prime vantage point invites breathtaking panoramic views over the city’s skyline.

Back at this home, we love the bright living room with its Scandinavian style furnishings, calming neutral hues and potted plants. Relax on the comfy sofa and read a book. Still, it's comfortable and has enough space for everyone, even with two guests sleeping on the sofa bed in the living space. It's worth noting you'll be opposite a stadium, so it can get noisy.

This home offers a simple base for travellers with busy schedules. While there's little privacy to be enjoyed for up to four guests, the packed kitchen has everything you'll need to whip up a hearty breakfast. Plus, the balcony promises a bit of outside space for fresh-air downtime. What we love is the nearby restaurants and public transport links, inviting you to explore the city further. For those itching to get the most out of sightseeing, luggage storage can be arranged.

This pocket-sized aparthotel suite outside the city centre doesn’t have many bells and whistles, but its proximity to public transport means you can easily reach Madrid’s most famous sights with ease and return to a base away from the tourist crowds. Given its compact size, using the sofa bed would make it a tight squeeze, but couples or solo travellers will find it a comfortable fit. There’s a coffee machine on hand and a desk space too – ideal for corporate travellers – and while there isn’t a kitchen here, you’ll find a selection of restaurants and bars just beyond your door.

We love the bright, airy feel of this immaculate apartment, located right in the beating heart of Puente de Vallecas –⁠ one of Madrid’s most vibrant and diverse districts. But the real pièce de resistance of this stylish bolthole has to be the suntrap outdoor terrace, looking out above the rooftops of neighbouring buildings. Opening up the balcony door in the mornings with a coffee (a pod machine will help with that) as the streets of Madrid awaken below is quite something. It’s also a great space to come together in the evenings for a few pre-dinner drinks as dusk settles across the city. When it’s time to experience some culture and meet the locals, you’re perfectly placed here. Set back from the city’s central tourist traps, you'll find a more authentic neighbourhood feel here, with traditional tapas bars and restaurants to keep you watered and fed. Or nip across to your well-heeled neighbours in the Retiro district (forty minutes on foot). Home to the celebrated Prado Museum (think masterpieces from Velázquez, Goya, and Zurbarán) –⁠ and the iconic El Retiro Park with its scenic lakes and open-air cafes –⁠ you could easily while away an afternoon here. Or hop on the metro station (five minutes away on foot) to unearth other corners of this enchanting city. Just think of the places you'll go.

Minimal, practical, and with a handy sofa bed to accommodate a third and fourth guest, you’ll have all you need for your city break. The interiors are not the most soulful, but the modern kitchen invites you to cook up light bites at home, that is when you’re not out sampling Madrid’s vibrant culinary scene. There’s parking available here, though we suggest hopping on the metro to best explore the city.

Numanica Retreat

Are you seeking a central location for a small group? This studio apartment offers a bright but intimate base for city sightseers, as there's only a screen for privacy between the sleeping areas. Ideal for young families, we think the free cot and high chair, plus complimentary toiletries offer a nice touch. Just a three-minute stroll from the Nueva Numancia metro station, you can zip along to El Retiro Park and the Royal Palace of Madrid in half an hour.

City Of Flowers

You’ll find this compact studio apartment a five-minute walk from the Nueva Numancia Metro Station, connecting you to Madrid’s best-loved sights in less than thirty minutes. It's not in the centre, so we think it suits those wanting a quieter stay away from the tourist hotspots. While this pad can accommodate four guests, we’d recommend a maximum of two, as once the sofa bed is in use, there’s not much space for socialising. The kitchen is well-equipped for a studio, but if you’d prefer to head out for dinner, there are plenty of restaurants on the doorstep.

Life in Madrid

You'll find this apartment on the outskirts of central Madrid, where you can enjoy the peace away from the hustle and bustle but still get there within minutes. Though it isn't the most charming space, it is well-kept and comfortable for a couple or solo wanderer. It can also sleep two more guests on the sofa bed, but it would make it a little less private and a little more cramped. Still, you have a balcony with outdoor seating when you need breathing room. An eight-minute walk will get you to Nueva Numancia, where public transport can help with your exploring needs.

The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

We would love to spend some time every day here strolling around the beautiful Retiro Park which used to belong to the Spanish Monarchy until it was opened up to the public to enjoy in the late nineteenth century. Wander through the green space, admiring the fountains and statues of Spaniards before taking a break in one of the open-air cafes. 

Hop on public transport to explore even more sights and attractions of Madrid, including the Plaza Mayor – reachable in twenty-nine minutes. Then, after a busy day, dine at one of the restaurants in the neighbourhood which are within a four-minute walk. Or, enjoy a tapas meal together at home before retiring to the sofa in the cosy living room nook with a glass of sangria.

We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed.
