Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Cornucopia

The most remarkable thing about Espinas is the quiet. Despite having three balconies, and being in the middle of Lavapiés, the street it looks onto is actually fairly calm. The building is old, and a lot of the original structure features prominently in the flat, which has been designed to complement the space, rather than dominate it. There is some pretty loud wallpaper though, which stops the design from falling into the dreaded ‘neutral’ category.


Espinas

As you saunter past the ornate, rococo grandeur of the Palacio Real de Madrid, peering into kerbside cafés, wine bars, and bustling tapas restaurants en route, you’ll end up in Plaza Mayor, just seven minutes away.

The lively main square of Spain’s capital is exactly what you’d expect – historical 15th-century magnificence with a bronze statue of King Philip III in the middle. And of course, the exciting mix of drinking spots and shaded alfresco dining continues. You might be wondering why we’re so interested in this specific spot – well, this is your address.

This modern apartment trades in centuries of history for bright and shiny interiors (you’ve got plenty of history outside). Naturally, the living space features two huge glass doors leading you to a private balcony facing on to the celebrated square. A cushy white sofa and dining chairs around a glass table bring a futuristic feel, while pink orchids contrast with an organic edge.

But while you sip tempranillo and nibble olives with views over the king’s statue, your host has further plans make you feel regal. They can arrange for private city tours, dry cleaning, grocery deliveries, and even themed dinner nights – royal banquet anyone?

The King's View

If you want to be in the centre of Madrid’s action, culture and vibrancy, this is the apartment for you. The home is in Chueca, where you’re just a couple of minutes walk from Gran-Via, Madrid’s most renowned street. At your doorstep, there are boundless options for excellent restaurants, bars and shops, as well as some of Madrid’s most iconic buildings and cultural sites. Inside the home, you’ll be welcomed by a concoction of earthy tones of reds and browns, from the wooden furnishings to the exposed red brick living room wall. The double doors open out onto a charming Juliet balcony giving way to a view of a traditional, Madrid street. Enjoy eating breakfast with friends and family at the kitchen table, or opening a bottle of red and settle in for the evening. This home is a wonderful option for dipping in and out of Madrid’s alluring buzz. 

Earth and the City

You can enjoy the best of Madrid from this chic, central apartment. It’s in the heart of the city, close to all the key attractions, including Plaza Mayor. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, so you’ll never be far from your next great meal, and the apartment has a well-equipped kitchen and dining table for those wanting to dine in. You’ll also have an attractive living room to enjoy, and a balcony where you can watch the world go by. This apartment is perfect for a family or group of friends. 

City Sun

You’ll hit the bullseye in this cool modern apartment, bang in the centre of Madrid's hip and happening Embajadores area. A bright space with tastefully exposed brickwork and an American-style kitchen, you’ll find plenty here to make yourself feel at home. Sip a coffee on the iron balcony railings looking out at the street below, or start the day slowly by kicking back on the white leather sofa with a book in hand. The sizeable bedroom is well-lit, the bathroom fully provisioned and pleasantly decorated with marble-look tiles, and there’s even a designated workspace for those travelling on business. But it’s the apartment’s location in the central hub of Madrid that will truly excite you, as you’re within walking distance from everything fun and artistic, including the Prado Museum, the Rastro flea market and the Plaza Mayor, as well as endless bars, eateries, theatres and shops too. Situated just metres away from the metro, you'll have easy access to explore the whole city with ease and efficiancy. Lively and diverse, dramatic street art decorates the Embajadores neighbourhood, while colourful flower stalls perfume the air and please the senses one step further. With all of this at your command in the coolest area of Madrid – why stay anywhere else? 

Culture Cool

Once a convent, now home to a sleek and contemporary apartment, this place is perfect for families or groups of friends looking to stay in the heart of Madrid. We loved the industrial-chic interiors – it’s all poured concrete floors, exposed brick walls and reclaimed timber beams. Kick back on the royal blue sofa or slink off for a siesta in the quiet bedrooms as the appointed chef of your group whips up Spanish delicacies for lunch. 

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake. 

Royal Indigo

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.


Molten Brass

While not overly flashy, Molten Bronze's simplicity is refreshing. The interior is clean, with a few things that really standout, like the kitchen splashback, which is not something we get to highlight very often. For the most part, the furniture and decorations come from Maison du Monde, so it’s solid and stylish, if not unique. The location won’t be for everyone – it’s on a busy street in Malasaña, so it isn’t very peaceful, but there’s loads to do and you won’t get bored.


Molten Bronze

Blending timber frames with sleek, contemporary furnishings, this handsome apartment in Madrid’s lively La Latina neighbourhood is an ideal base for those looking to soak up the best of Madrilenian life.
 
We love how shades of natural brown sit alongside elegant neutral notes here, while ample natural light pours in through the French doors in the living room. Open these up to enjoy the breeze as you kick back on the sofa with a glass of Spanish red, or perch by the Juliet balcony with your evening tipple as you people-watch from your privileged position. 
 
The dining table beckons sociable evenings over homemade dinners when you’re not out sampling the local tapas hangouts, while the bedrooms offer a comfortable night’s sleep leaving you feeling ready and relaxed for another day of exploring. 
 
Speaking of sightseeing, you’ve got plenty to see and do within easy walking distance, not least of all your own neighbourhood’s maze of narrow lanes filled with tapas bars and cantinas. Elsewhere, Plaza Mayor is a ten-minute walk, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a fifteen-minute stroll, while the world-famous Museo Nacional del Prado is twenty minutes away on foot. 


Madera Marvel

This beautiful two-bedroom apartment, nestled right in the heart of Madrid’s Centro and overlooking Plaza Tirso de Molina is a perfect place for a family or a small group of friends to base themselves while they discover all of the magic this city has to offer. With its prime location, luxurious features and all the exclusive shared facilities, this pad is a hard one to beat. 

Staying here you’ll enjoy access to a state-of-the-art gym, a heated swimming pool and a spa room with a hot tub, all designed to make your stay a relaxing one. A night of restful sleep awaits in the plush bedrooms – wake up and brew up some fresh coffee while you plan the day’s adventures. Just outside, you’ll find yourself within walking distance of Plaza Mayor, as well as an abundance of shops, restaurants and flamenco bars of the old town. 

Madrid in Bloom 

What a great location this apartment has in Madrid. The Royal Palace is just seven minutes on foot, while the Almudena Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor are within walking distance, too. As you'd expect from such a central location, you will hear some city noise while staying here. After all that exploring, you can sit in this home's shared courtyard and get your breath back. Inside, we love the living area's double-height ceilings and galleried landing, and there's a desk here if you need to catch up on work. We'd say the adjacent ground-floor bedroom isn't fully private, as it's a cubicle room with three-quarter-height walls – otherwise, this is a great home for couples, a family or business colleagues.
