A tour of this home reveals a glamorous hybrid design theme that balances modern baroque-inspired pieces with jungle and safari themes – dear lovers of minimalism, you might want to stay elsewhere. But if gold-coated flora and fauna with an occasional crown-cum-skull ensemble sound like heaven to you, then you'll find Queen of the Castle an absolute delight. With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above.

Calle Almagro is probably one of the most iconic streets in Chamberí. Historically, the elites have fled central Madrid in hopes of finding a quieter vibe in this neighbourhood, leading to low-key chic architecture, great restaurants, and bars. Mucha's Jungle has an atypical interior design that reminded us of a Soho townhouse. The wooden floor is a piece of art on its own, and there are lots of beautiful design details dotted around. In spite of the fact that it looks a lot bigger, this is a small attic home, which is perfect for all who thrive in pretty, cosy spots.

Molten Brass is neat and tidy. There isn’t a lot that jumps out at you, but that’s not necessarily a problem – the atmosphere inside is pretty calm. That stands in contrast to the atmosphere on the street below, which is pretty intense, but that’s because you’re in the heart of Malasaña, so there’s tonnes to do. As is common with any flat that is rented out all the time, there’s a lack of personality but the attention to detail, and generally pleasant, if simple, design help make the flat feel more homely.

While not overly flashy, Molten Bronze's simplicity is refreshing. The interior is clean, with a few things that really standout, like the kitchen splashback, which is not something we get to highlight very often. For the most part, the furniture and decorations come from Maison du Monde, so it’s solid and stylish, if not unique. The location won’t be for everyone – it’s on a busy street in Malasaña, so it isn’t very peaceful, but there’s loads to do and you won’t get bored.

Situated in the heart of the city, this stunning modern apartment serves as the perfect base to explore everything the Spanish capital has in store. With natural light streaming into the living space and more than enough amenities to make your stay completely comfortable, the apartment is ideal for a small family or a romantic getaway. You'll be won over by the convenient central location, a stone's throw from the famous Plaza Mayor as well as Puerta del Sol. Should you find yourself craving an authentic Madrid dining experience, why not make your way to the Madrid institution, Sobrino de Botín – it's just a four-minute walk away. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room – if you’re hoping for more space, we’d recommend a maximum occupancy of two.

Keen to be in the hustle and bustle? This apartment, just a ten-minute stroll from Gran Vía, may be a great choice. It's easy to get to all the landmarks on foot or by metro, and there are a lot of bars and restaurants nearby. Unsurprisingly it can get a tad noisy – but that's part of the city experience. We love the bright living area, and the two snug bedrooms channel Spanish sunshine with their yellow paint. Size-wise, it's rather compact but still comfortable – just note that it's on the second floor and lacks a lift.

You'll love relaxing with a glass of red wine as you admire Madrid’s cityscape from the large living room windows and plan your itinerary. And, the comfy and calming bedrooms are perfect for getting forty winks after a long day of sightseeing. 

From here, you can soak up the capital's unique atmosphere as you wander through the winding city streets. There you’ll find a wonderful mix of beautiful, neoclassical architecture, trendy boutiques, and charming plazas. To get your culture fix, you can take a twenty-minute walk to Museo Nacional del Prado, then stroll through Parque de El Retiro. Later, spend the evening at the theatre, followed by a late dinner at one of the gorgeous terraced restaurants in true Spanish style.

Although the apartment isn't especially large, the owners have made excellent use of the space. The spotlessly clean and dynamic living room is dotted with stylish – but not overbearing – design pieces, and the mirror in the kitchen makes it feel dramatically more spacious. And, with an exceptionally fast wifi speed, a brand new air-conditioning unit, and five individual balconies (yes, really!) facing onto sunny Cadiz street, it's easy to see why guests keep coming back.

Home Cinema Setup

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Cornucopia

We'd struggle to think of a better location than Gran Vía. This avenue is the city's lifeline, filed with theatres, shops and great transport links to Madrid's many landmarks. Grey Magnolia isn't only central, it looks good too. Some might find its minimalism a bit boring, but the well-curated designer furniture has plenty of character, making the most of the small square footage. We especially liked the headboard in the bedroom and the chic dining table.
