Located just outside Plaza Mayor’s arches, this ideally located apartment is the perfect base for those looking to soak up Madrid's vibrant, buzzing centre. 

Blending rustic charm with stylish modern accents, this home feels wonderfully Spanish. We love the exposed beamed ceilings and the wood floors, as well as the houseplants and colourful rug in the living area that add additional characterful flair. 
 
The bedroom is elegantly pared back, offering a comfortable night’s sleep, while the dining area invites celebratory homemade tapas feasts when you’re not out sampling the local dining scene. 
 
Our favourite spot, however, is the private balcony with its wide-sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. Enjoy an alfresco breakfast here while catching some morning rays or watch the sunset from your privileged position over an evening glass of Spanish wine.

What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.  

Take some goodies back to this elegant apartment and whip up a bocadillo de calamares (calamari sandwich) in the sleek, white kitchen and enjoy it at the dining table with its plush green velvet chairs. We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. We love the funky art prints decking the walls and the large windows giving way to leafy views. The dining table is perfectly set up here to catch the rays pouring through the glass, over a hearty breakfast before a day of sightseeing, or over a bottle of Spanish red for a celebratory evening meal.
 
The pared-back bedroom is a comfortable space you’ll have no trouble falling asleep in, and in the morning, the bathroom’s rainfall shower is sure to get your day off on the right. 
 
When you’re ready to venture out for a day of fun, you’ll find plenty to see and do within easy walking distance. Make your way to nearby Puerta del Sol, or head to Plaza Mayor – one of the city’s most famous squares lined with restaurants. If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above.

This is an elaborate home that impresses with the broad strokes as well as fine ones. An enviable structure with high ceilings and big windows is filled with custom-made furniture that leaves plenty of space to move around. We loved the use of space that puts desks, chairs and bold art pieces in unexpected places – against all odds, it works.

This is a big and cleverly laid-out home that impressed us with how quiet it was – in spite of the fact that it's in the strictest centre of Madrid. Both Puerta del Sol and the Prado are within walking distance, setting you up for great sightseeing walks. Corinthian gives the impression of old-timey grandeur. It's not a scratch-free home, but one that feels lived in and furnished with a personality. The high ceiling and use of wood in almost every room give it a warm and welcoming vibe.

You’re on the edge of the square where pavement cafés spill out onto the cobbles and the porticoed buildings date back to the 16th century when this was the centre of Old Madrid. The terrace is the first thing that grabs your attention at this fabulous home, housed in a historic building dating back to 1919 – it's the perfect place for a glass (or a pitcher) of sangria. It really is a fantastic, south-facing outdoor space, with a sunshade – relax on the sun loungers or enjoy some alfresco tapas. There's an outside shower too to rinse off the suncream before going indoors. Inside, there's lots of light, and the huge living room is a wonderful space to entertain. We love the original artwork and colourful wallpapers in the bedrooms. This apartment is perfect for a group of friends, family or professionals on a business trip. We were surprised, as well, given its central, Calle Gran Vía location, how quiet it is here. Step out of the door, and you're on Madrid's most famous street, right in the centre of the capital. Here you'll find some of the city’s most iconic buildings, as well as boutiques, restaurants (let your lovely host make reservations) and bars galore. Take in the incredible views over Madrid from the roof terrace of Círculo de Bellas Artes, a cultural centre offering concerts and exhibitions, a five-minute stroll away. Or, get inspired at Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza with its masterpieces by Van Gogh, Caravaggio and Lichtenstein, nine minutes on foot. Architecture lovers, on the other hand, can admire Ayuntamiento de Madrid, or visit the exhibitions at Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos, both under a ten-minute saunter.

This is a loud and proud home, filled with bold art and eclectic furniture. Large abstract paintings sit comfortably next to custom art prints and photography, revealing the hosts' love for shapes and stripes. Although it offers more of a mixture of modern and classical styles than a clear direction, this home has a mid-Century Hollywood feel to it. It's not the most typical Spanish home, but each of the rooms is designed around a coherent theme and colour scheme. Apart from the light and space – both abundant – this home has a lovely collection of lamps in all shapes and sizes.

Modern, bright and centrally located close to Madrid’s top sights, this home right by Puerta del Sol is a sunny delight. 

With its blue and white colour scheme, exposed brick details and open-plan layout, it embodies city living in chic, cool style. Kick back on the sofa with your coffee, letting the breeze sweep in through the open doors, then set out for a day of sightseeing – Plaza Mayor is just a seven-minute walk away, Gran Vía is a ten-minute stroll, while both the Royal Palace of Madrid and the world-famous Museo Nacional del Prado are fifteen minutes away on foot. 

After a day of exploring, come back home for a celebratory meal around the glass dining table or head out to discover the neighbourhood’s best tapas bars and restaurants. When it’s time to turn in, your comfortable bed is ready to send you into a peaceful night’s sleep, leaving you rested and ready for another day of Madrid adventure.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, so you’ll never be far from your next great meal, and the apartment has a well-equipped kitchen and dining table for those wanting to dine in. You’ll also have an attractive living room to enjoy, and a balcony where you can watch the world go by. This apartment is perfect for a family or group of friends. 

City Sun

Several of the original architectural elements in Strength of Spirit have been preserved, so that the flat keeps some character and a sense of place, and this pays off. It might seem like a slightly nebulous point, but the fact that it feels Madrileño makes the guest feel at ease – there’s nothing jarring about the space. There are a few more modern features though, like the sleek, black kitchen, which adds a bit of variety, but these feel a bit beside the point. There’s nothing wrong with them, but nor do they add a tonne.


Strength of Spirit

This chic apartment has two large shopping centres within a few hundred metres – this is a great base if you’re hoping to indulge in some retail therapy in Madrid. It’s in the heart of the city, with the Puerta del Sol just a few steps away. The apartment is modern and minimalist, with a tranquil vibe that means you can unwind when you’re not out seeing the sights. Two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, which may not be the most comfortable set-up for longer stays. 

City Chic Retreat

Right in the heart of Madrid, this contemporary apartment is in a top-notch location for exploring. Step out the front door and you'll be straight into the city's hustle and bustle – buzzing Gran Vía is two minutes on foot, with Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor walkable in under ten. Whether you fancy sightseeing, shopping or sampling the local cuisine, this is the place to be, with restaurants, boutiques and all the landmarks within easy. 

When you're not taking advantage of this super-central locale, relax back at home with a glass of Spanish vino. Hues of bold yellow, crisp white and sleek black give this chic pad a pop of personality – a perfect reflection of the dazzling modern art piece hanging proudly on the living room wall. Elsewhere, clever Japanese-style doors make the most of the natural light, so although the rooms are a bit small, they're all quite stylish. We're not going to lie – the kitchen, in particular, is pretty compact, but with Madrid's many eateries on your doorstep, we doubt you'll do much cooking.

Make yourself comfortable on the elegant couch and plan your itinerary – we recommend starting with a trip to the Royal Palace of Madrid. 

Spend warm afternoons moseying around the city, stopping for a leisurely lunch in an old-school tapas bar, then brushing up on your art history knowledge at the Prado Museum, a twenty-minute walk from your doorstep. After kicking back in El Retiro park, shop along the Gran Via or catch a Flamenco show in a long-standing tablao.

The terrace is the first thing that strikes you about Sail-Shade, so let’s not dwell on that. The living room is lovely, and the rest of the place is very comfortable, if not particularly ground-breaking. The atmosphere is almost like a hotel – you have both a twenty-four-hour reception, and a daily cleaning service – but that also goes the other way. The flat is missing some of the character that you’d expect if it were actually someone’s home. 


Sail-Shade

When you embark on a city break, you want to be close to the central hub of the city. This snug apartment caters to your thirst for adventure – it's just moments from Plaza Mayor, Plaza del Sol in Madrid and other iconic landmarks. 

Despite its central location, the apartment maintains a peaceful hum at all times. When sipping your coffee in the morning or relaxing on the sofa in the evening, you won't believe you're in the heart of a flourishing metropolis. 

Start your days admiring the striking buildings that are on your doorstep. Between each landmark, stop off for some paella, tapas or risotto, complemented by the famous Spanish beers. You can also treat yourself to a jug of sangria if you're feeling a more fruity vibe.

Come the evening, your options in the Spanish capital are boundless. Mingle with locals in the bars, stroll around the city to find hidden gems or simply rest in the tranquility of your home.


Two Squared

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Located on a pedestrianised street in the heart of Madrid, this apartment is perfect for those who want to check out the city’s most famous sights. The Royal Palace, Plaza de España and Plaza Mayor are within easy walking distance, and the Sol metro station is nearby for trips outside the centre. Back at home, there is a private terrace for alfresco dining (although it's a little dated) and two cosy bedrooms. The curtains, however, don’t fully block out the sunlight, so we recommend packing an eye mask if you plan to enjoy a lie-in.

Madrid Modern

Setting the tone for a cool stay in the heart of Madrid, this newly renovated top floor apartment captures the charm of its historic setting. Leaving the busy streets behind, the front door opens onto a minimal and light-filled space. Features such as the mid-century modern furnishings and contemporary artwork create an eclectic ambience. It’s refreshingly simple and urban here. But there are all the amenities you could need for a comfortable city stay. From the living area, the striking staircase leads up to the bed, seemingly floating on a mezzanine. Soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the city and walk to iconic locations like La Plaza Mayor, La Puerta del Sol and the Royal Palace. The nearby metro also provides great connections to the rest of the city. 

Sky Bright

Although the apartment isn't especially large, the owners have made excellent use of the space. The spotlessly clean and dynamic living room is dotted with stylish – but not overbearing – design pieces, and the mirror in the kitchen makes it feel dramatically more spacious. And, with an exceptionally fast wifi speed, a brand new air-conditioning unit, and five individual balconies (yes, really!) facing onto sunny Cadiz street, it's easy to see why guests keep coming back. 


Sputnik Dandelion

Next to Plaza del Callao and just a five-minute stroll to Madrid's most famous and central square, Puerta del Sol – this home has a fantastic location. Art lovers will be glad to know that "the walk of art" is under twenty minutes on foot. Here you'll find the Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. Budding horticulturalists, on the other hand, can head to the Royal Botanical Garden, just over a twenty-minute walk away.

Back at this apartment, housed in a building dating back to 1880, this newly refurbished home is the ideal Madrid bolthole. Open the French doors to the balcony, relax on the comfy chaise sofa and take the weight off your feet after all that sightseeing. We love the vintage trunk in the living room and the stylish bathroom with its brass tap and ornate mirror. Your lovely host, Sol, provides a breakfast hamper of coffee, tea, herb infusions, milk and pastries too, and there's a juicer here for fresh drinks. This place is perfect for a couple, family or business professional looking for a well-located home.

Simplicity is at the fore when it comes to Windcomb. The sense of space is not something to be taken for granted, either. Eight people, and not a sofa bed in sight. Unfortunately, it’s rather common for unscrupulous landlords to try to shoehorn people in, but that’s certainly not the case here. It’s a bit of a pain to have to climb up the steps, but that’s an occupational risk when you test so many homes in old buildings – it’s hardly a dealbreaker.

Occupying a privileged position in Madrid’s famous Plaza Mayor, this beautifully styled apartment puts you in the heart of the city, with countless points of cultural and historic interest right on your doorstep. 
 
Housed in a building dating back to the 17th century, elegance and modernity come together in perfect harmony here. As you saunter past the ornate, rococo grandeur of the Palacio Real de Madrid, peering into kerbside cafés, wine bars, and bustling tapas restaurants en route, you’ll end up in Plaza Mayor, just seven minutes away.

The lively main square of Spain’s capital is exactly what you’d expect – historical 15th-century magnificence with a bronze statue of King Philip III in the middle. And of course, the exciting mix of drinking spots and shaded alfresco dining continues. You might be wondering why we’re so interested in this specific spot – well, this is your address.

This modern apartment trades in centuries of history for bright and shiny interiors (you’ve got plenty of history outside). Naturally, the living space features two huge glass doors leading you to a private balcony facing on to the celebrated square. A cushy white sofa and dining chairs around a glass table bring a futuristic feel, while pink orchids contrast with an organic edge.

But while you sip tempranillo and nibble olives with views over the king’s statue, your host has further plans make you feel regal. They can arrange for private city tours, dry cleaning, grocery deliveries, and even themed dinner nights – royal banquet anyone?

Inside, tall beamed ceilings, wood floors and exposed brick walls nod to the home’s history with antique-inspired furnishings creating an almost villa-type atmosphere that’s as dreamy as it is bohemian. We love the French doors that open out onto romantic Juliet balconies with views of Plaza de Jacinto Benavente below. With the bed facing the picture windows, you can wake up and enjoy your morning coffee first thing while people-watching from your fourth-floor vantage point. With a beautiful stained-glass adorned bathroom and a working fireplace to cosy up next to on cooler nights – a glass of Spanish wine in hand – you’ve got everything you need for a relaxing, stylish stay. Outside of your home, Madrid’s famous shopping street, Gran Vía, is a ten-minute walk away, Plaza Mayor is five minutes on foot, the Prado Museum is walkable in fifteen and beautiful El Retiro Park is a twenty-minute stroll from your door.

While this home won’t be winning any awards for modern design, its central locale makes it an ideal base for those looking to make the most out of Madrid’s cultural hotspots. Close to Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and the Royal Palace of Madrid, you’ve got some of the city’s most iconic sights within easy reach on foot, and plenty of nearby transport links to take you across the wider area. If art brings you to Madrid, you’ll find yourself at home amongst the apartment’s many prints and posters, while the bathtub feels like a good way to end a busy day of sightseeing, maybe even with a glass of Spanish wine in hand.

Equidistant to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, The Sun and Stone is perfectly located for those who want to explore Madrid on foot. This home is a typically modern city affair with a minimalist aesthetic and lots of natural light. The thing we liked most about The Sun and Stone is that it's been designed with the guest in mind. The kitchen island is great for socialising, there's ample storage space the communal areas are both inviting and comfortable – basically, an all-rounder.

Location-wise, this home is a ten out of ten. Beautiful Plaza Mayor is just around the corner, which means that many of Madrid’s most famous attractions are all within walking distance. We also loved the design – pastel-hued chicness and a feminine take on Scandinavian style in one, it’s the epitome of stylish, casual luxury. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but we’re not going to hold that against an otherwise terrific home. Plus, there are so many restaurants nearby that you might not even want to eat at home...

Radiante

With Calle Gran Vía close by, this home will definitely appeal to shopaholics. You'll also find plenty of amazing restaurants and bars in the vicinity. Attractions within walking distance include Plaza Canovas del Castillo with its Fountain of Neptune and vibrant La Plaza de Chueca. Back at this apartment, we love the French doors that open out onto Juliet balconies. There's a separate, compact but well-equipped kitchen for creating some tasty tapas, too. This home is ideal for couples or business travellers seeking an elegant base in a fantastic location.

Heart of Madrid Haven

Ideally located in a central spot with countless historic and cultural hotspots on your doorstep, this bright and welcoming apartment is an ideal base for those looking for a fuss-free stay in the city. Contemporary decor and wood floors greet you in the bright living area where French doors lead out onto a Juliet balcony – the perfect spot to perch by with your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Gather together for Spanish omelettes and homemade tapas at the kitchen table when you’re not out sampling the local food scene, and relish retreating to the bedrooms for a good night’s sleep after a busy day of sightseeing adventures. 

Speaking of exploring, make a beeline for the beautiful Royal Palace of Madrid, or soak up the bustling atmosphere of nearby Plaza Mayor.
