Charming and bright, this studio apartment sits just steps away from Sol Metro station, with easy access to the city's biggest and best attractions. On a higher floor of a traditional period building, it comes with character features, modern comforts and bags of natural light from its three Juliet balconies. White walls and wood floors make for a timeless canvas while smart furnishings keep everything very much in the 21st Century.

It's not a huge space but it's neatly laid out with zones for cooking, eating, lounging and sleeping, and there's an immaculate shower room off the sleeping area, making this perfect for a couple, a solo traveller or even a small family. Step outside and this lively area is packed with buzzing tapas bars and some of the city's best shopping. An ideal base for dabbling in these delights, this convenient home is an easy choice.  

Painter of Light

Situated in Puerta del Sol, this central apartment invites you to experience the joys of Madrid with ease. From here, you'll be within walking distance of Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace of Madrid and Museo Nacional del Prado. You’re also just a few steps from Sol metro station, so the whole city is at your fingertips. Inside, you’ll find a modern open-plan space with a balcony and a dining area to share leisurely meals. Keep in mind that two guests will be sleeping on the living room sofa bed here, so it does lack some privacy. And if you’re visiting with little ones, your host can provide a cot upon request.

Sol Retreat

Traditional touches meet contemporary style at this chic Madrid apartment. Located in the Centro district, right in the heart of the city, it's the ideal place to unwind between your adventures in the Spanish capital.

You'll love the traditional wooden beams, tiled floor, and large French windows that flood the space with natural light. You can admire the street views below from the Juliet balcony, before getting comfy on the sofa with a glass of Rioja. And, when hunger strikes, the pretty blue kitchen is well-equipped, so you can rustle up some of your favourite dishes. 

Plaza Mayor, Madrid's buzzing main square, is just a street away, and is the perfect first stop on your sightseeing schedule. You can also wander over to the Royal Palace and the adjacent baroque cathedral – they're must-sees for culture fans. Or, head in the opposite direction, to spend some time at the Museo Nacional del Prado before strolling through the city's marvellous botanical gardens.

Watching The World Go By

The terrace is the first thing that strikes you about Sail-Shade, so let’s not dwell on that. The living room is lovely, and the rest of the place is very comfortable, if not particularly ground-breaking. The atmosphere is almost like a hotel – you have both a twenty-four-hour reception, and a daily cleaning service – but that also goes the other way. The flat is missing some of the character that you’d expect if it were actually someone’s home. 


Sail-Shade

You can enjoy the best of Madrid from this chic, central apartment. It’s in the heart of the city, close to all the key attractions, including Plaza Mayor. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, so you’ll never be far from your next great meal, and the apartment has a well-equipped kitchen and dining table for those wanting to dine in. You’ll also have an attractive living room to enjoy, and a balcony where you can watch the world go by. This apartment is perfect for a family or group of friends. 

City Sun

Located right in the centre of Madrid within walking distance of its cultural treasures, this apartment is its own gallery of miscellaneous wonders perched high above the pavements. Starting from the fuzzy caterpillar-like chaise lounge in the living room that sets the eclectic glamorous tone, this home puts just about everything in the mix, from boldly patterned wallpaper and towering palm plants to the Asian dresser in the living area and the bright blue countertop. It's fair to say that we loved it. A small balcony in one of the bedrooms was the cherry on the cake and is perfect for when you want a blast of fresh air on a stuffy afternoon. If you want to head out exploring, Museo Nacional del Prado is just over ten minutes' walk away, while Palacio de Cristal in the middle of Parque de el Retiro takes around twenty-five.

Cornucopia

When it comes to location, it doesn’t get better than this. Overlooking the bustling Plaza Mayor, this apartment with its own sun-soaked balcony is primed for people-watching. Begin your mornings with a coffee alfresco before rustling up a traditional breakfast in the sleek white-washed kitchen. Make yourself comfortable on the elegant couch and plan your itinerary – we recommend starting with a trip to the Royal Palace of Madrid. 

Spend warm afternoons moseying around the city, stopping for a leisurely lunch in an old-school tapas bar, then brushing up on your art history knowledge at the Prado Museum, a twenty-minute walk from your doorstep. After kicking back in El Retiro park, shop along the Gran Via or catch a Flamenco show in a long-standing tablao. 

Lantana Bloom

With Calle Gran Vía close by, this home will definitely appeal to shopaholics. You'll also find plenty of amazing restaurants and bars in the vicinity. Attractions within walking distance include Plaza Canovas del Castillo with its Fountain of Neptune and vibrant La Plaza de Chueca. Back at this apartment, we love the French doors that open out onto Juliet balconies. There's a separate, compact but well-equipped kitchen for creating some tasty tapas, too. This home is ideal for couples or business travellers seeking an elegant base in a fantastic location.

Heart of Madrid Haven

Simplicity is at the fore when it comes to Windcomb. The sense of space is not something to be taken for granted, either. Eight people, and not a sofa bed in sight. Unfortunately, it’s rather common for unscrupulous landlords to try to shoehorn people in, but that’s certainly not the case here. It’s a bit of a pain to have to climb up the steps, but that’s an occupational risk when you test so many homes in old buildings – it’s hardly a dealbreaker.


Windcomb

If you want to be right at the centre of the action in Madrid, then this is the apartment for you. Situated right on Calle Mayor – one of the city's best-known streets – it's within easy reach of all the delights the capital city has to offer. 

The home itself is an elegant space filled with charm, and the high ceilings and tall windows mean there is plenty of natural light. The host has a great eye for stylish furniture – from the marble kitchen counter to the lavish patterned rugs, you'll love the luxurious feel. Practise your Spanish-style cooking in the kitchen before serving your culinary creations to your guests at the gorgeous dining table. Then, after dinner, open up a bottle of Rioja and head out to the private balcony to watch the world go by from above. 

There are also plenty of restaurants nearby, serving everything from traditional tapas to ramen and tacos. Madrid's historic square, Plaza Mayor, is just a two-minute walk away from your front door, as is the famous Puerta del Sol. You'll also find several museums and theatres in the surrounding area, and if you fancy exploring another part of the city then simply hop on the metro at Sol station – it's just a couple of minutes away. 

Morning in Madrid

Location-wise, this home is a ten out of ten. Beautiful Plaza Mayor is just around the corner, which means that many of Madrid’s most famous attractions are all within walking distance. We also loved the design – pastel-hued chicness and a feminine take on Scandinavian style in one, it’s the epitome of stylish, casual luxury. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but we’re not going to hold that against an otherwise terrific home. Plus, there are so many restaurants nearby that you might not even want to eat at home...
