This beautifully designed apartment is located in Eixemple, one of Barcelona’s most desirable areas. It has all the modern amenities for a great stay, including lovely extras such as a record player. Our favourite spot however, is the terrace with its cosy seating – perfect for coffee breaks and alfresco meals. With a location second to none, it’s never been easier to explore a city. There’s a plethora of eateries and bars on your doorstep, as well as some of Gaudi’s masterpieces such as Casa Batlló. With several metro stations nearby, exploring further afield is also a breeze.

This fantastic duplex apartment has an entrance next to Retiro Park, in a relatively quiet area of the bustling city. El Retiro translates as “Park of the Pleasant Retreat”, and this home offers exactly that. 

We would love to spend some time every day here strolling around the beautiful Retiro Park which used to belong to the Spanish Monarchy until it was opened up to the public to enjoy in the late nineteenth century. Wander through the green space, admiring the fountains and statues of Spaniards before taking a break in one of the open-air cafes. 

Hop on public transport to explore even more sights and attractions of Madrid, including the Plaza Mayor – reachable in twenty-nine minutes. Then, after a busy day, dine at one of the restaurants in the neighbourhood which are within a four-minute walk. Or, enjoy a tapas meal together at home before retiring to the sofa in the cosy living room nook with a glass of sangria.

This place has plenty of mod cons, such as electric closing windows and chromotherapy showers. We’d say this home is ideal for business professionals, a family or a group of friends.

The host has taken it upon themself to create a peaceful oasis in the middle of the city, curating an eclectic look with antiques and flea-market finds. We love the living and dining room, complete with mid-century chairs and a chandelier to create an elegant glow for dinner parties. Another fabulous use of light comes from the shuttered windows to your private balcony. With three sets of rich, wooden folding doors, you can step out to the railings with a glass of tempranillo after supper to watch the city light up at nightfall. With decorative, gilded bed frames in the sumptuous bedrooms, you’ll even feel stylish while you sleep. Rest up well, because you’ve got some exploring to do the next morning – the three galleries of the Art Walk are all less than fifteen minutes away.

After the plates are cleared, plan your itinerary at the dining table. We recommend starting with the Royal Palace, a mere ten-minute walk from your doorstep. If you’d like to stretch your legs a little further, it’s a thirty-minute stroll to El Retiro Park. Pause for a coffee on the buzzing Calle Cava Baja before picking a spot to bask in the sunshine beside El Retiro Lake.

Elsewhere, the Royal Palace of Madrid is a ten-minute walk, the famous Museo Nacional del Prado is an eighteen-minute stroll, while leafy El Retiro Park is just over twenty minutes away on foot.

The design is somewhat lacking a coherent theme, but Blue Torito is still a solid, bright, and comfortable choice, with access to a resident-only pool and terrace.

What a fabulous location this refurbished apartment has – Puerta del Sol, one of the best-known squares in the city, is just a two-minute stroll away. Or, a five-minute walk will take you to one of Madrid's most famous streets, Gran Vía. Watch a production at the Teatro EDP Gran Vía or have lunch at one of its many eateries. Alternatively, the iconic Plaza del Dos de Mayo is a fifteen-minute wander. Here, you'll find plenty of bars, as well as a lively weekend market for fresh produce.  

Take some goodies back to this elegant apartment and whip up a bocadillo de calamares (calamari sandwich) in the sleek, white kitchen and enjoy it at the dining table with its plush green velvet chairs. We love the French doors to the balcony – they allow so much light in, and the views are fantastic. There's a reason Salamanca is one of Madrid's most sought-after neighbourhoods. With its gourmet eateries, world-renowned museums and luxury boutiques lining the Golden Mile, the area offers something for everyone. Just on the cusp of this swanky postcode is this apartment. The size is ideal for couples and solo travellers, but the option of a single sofa bed keeps sleeping arrangements flexible. Netflix and a Playstation have rainy days covered, and although it's not the most exciting home, we like the design – particularly the colourful wallpaper in the bedroom.

Nestled in the heart of Madrid, this stylish apartment couldn't be better placed for some fun in the city. The interiors boast plush furnishings, exposed brick and lots of natural sunlight, whilst outside you'll find a small but cosy terrace. Start the day with a home-cooked breakfast thanks to the contemporary kitchen, then tuck in alfresco with a cup of coffee before heading out to explore.

Step out of the front door and you'll be on the bustling streets of Madrid, within an easy distance of the area's main attractions. Soak up the city's cutting-edge culture with a tour of the Prado Museum, take a stroll around El Retiro Park and sample some of Spain's best restaurants right on your doorstep.

This is a big and cleverly laid-out home that impressed us with how quiet it was – in spite of the fact that it's in the strictest centre of Madrid. Both Puerta del Sol and the Prado are within walking distance, setting you up for great sightseeing walks. Corinthian gives the impression of old-timey grandeur. It's not a scratch-free home, but one that feels lived in and furnished with a personality. The high ceiling and use of wood in almost every room give it a warm and welcoming vibe.

Although this home is slightly further away from the most important sights, Plaza Mayor is still within easy reach by metro. Instead, this home is only a short walk away from Retiro, Madrid's largest park–well-suited for someone who appreciates a quieter neighbourhood. The Peacock and the Steed has is an eclectic home that mixes minimalist design in the kitchen and living room with more classical influences in the bedroom. Our favourite is the freestanding bath and the original hydraulic tiles from the seventies.

While this home isn't in the heart of Madrid, it's under a five-minute stroll to the Usera Metro station. From there, it's a twenty-minute ride into the city centre, where you'll find attractions such as historic Puerta del Sol. So, that's the area covered – what about the apartment itself? Well, we'd say the open-plan living area doesn't have much of a homely feel. But, saying that, the bedrooms make up for this with their vibrant wallpaper. The kitchen is a bit compact, too, but it has everything you need to create some tasty tapas.

Set within the heart of Madrid, this apartment is an ideal base for those looking to drop off their suitcases and head out to explore. It's a studio, so space is limited. We think it's best for couples or solo travellers, though a sofa bed could sleep an additional guest if needed. Locally, indulge in some tasty tapas, soak up some culture at the Prado Museum, or head to Plaza Mayor or Puerta del Sol for a true taste of Madrid.
