If you're looking to steer clear of the tourist trail, this secluded home is an idyllic rural retreat. On a private road, you'll have no nearby neighbours but it's just a ten-minute drive to the beautiful town of Algaida – one of the most authentic spots on the island. Surrounded by ancient olive trees, and with an old well out front, it's a charming Finca within a walled garden.

Here the order of the day is relaxation. You can bask in the sunshine by the pretty pool or seek out the shade in one of the garden's many interesting nooks – we love the covered dining terrace and the tucked-away barbecue spot. Stroll in the grounds, admiring the citrus trees, or hike further afield – inland Mallorca is a big hit with keen walkers and cyclists.

The home itself has just the right blend of traditional character and modern conveniences, with a few stylish choices when it comes to interiors. Cooled by the age-old design of its high ceilings, stone walls and tiled floors, the living space is grand and classically furnished. Every corner of this 200-year-old Finca delivers pure Mallorcan charm. There's an extraordinary feel to this place just outside the pretty town of Sencelles. In Mallorca's rural heartland, it's surrounded by farming country and sits in its own vast grounds with fruit trees, lawns and huge palms. Overlooking the fields, you'll be in tune with the land and totally switched off from modern life's stresses and strains.

This finca dates back to around 1890. Built from local stone and using traditional tiles, fireplaces and beamed ceilings, it's a stylish blend of rustic features and contemporary (think dark wood furniture and shuttered windows alongside modern steel and glass). A local architect has taken this old farmhouse and given it new life – without losing any of the atmosphere.

Your living space flows naturally on the ground floor, with a stunning seating area with a window wall to one side and exposed stone walls to the other. Stylish, comfy sofas provide a perfect indoor retreat to sit and chat, while the indoor dining table is just steps from the sleek, all-white kitchen. Two of the bedrooms open to the garden, while a steel staircase leads up to the others.

But this home's real star power comes in the form of an immense outdoor pool. Measuring more than 1000sq ft, it's been built using the existing base of an old farm building and uses several repurposed architectural features. It's pretty impressive if we say so ourselves.

As you'd expect, there's no shortage of secret outdoor seating spots and places to read under a tree in total seclusion. You'll also have a large covered terrace with a table and a barbecue. And here's a quirky little addition: if you thought the walk downstairs to the pool was too long from the main bedroom, the architect has installed some exterior metal steps so it only takes a moment.

Nearby, explore Sencelles and the surrounding villages, head off on hikes and bike rides, visit the local historic sites or drive to the coast for a day by the sea. Thanks to its location in the centre of the island, it's easy to get around by car.

Begin your days here with breakfast alfresco under the shade of the awning. Lounge in the sunshine before taking a dip in the cooling waters of your private pool, while your children enjoy the playhouse and swings. Then, why not head out for a day of exploring and adventures. 

Play a round of golf at the course just a twelve-minute drive away or go horse riding at the equestrian ranch – a short six-minute drive away. Go shopping at Mallorca Fashion outlet – a twenty-minute drive away, or head to Palma for the day – reachable by car in twenty-five minutes – where you can see Palma’s gothic cathedral, wander the maze-like streets of Palma’s old town, hop on the Soller Railway for a scenic trip, enjoy the nightlife, and much more. 

Spend beach days at Ca’n Pastilla or explore the area's heritage by visiting the archaeological site of Santuari Talaiòtic de Son Corró – an eighteen-minute drive away. Or, why not visit Jardins d’Alfàbia, a former estate with a Gothic-style home and 18th-century water fountains surrounded by stunning gardens of palm trees.

At dinner time, try one of the many restaurants not far away from this home that can be reached within six minutes by car, or cook something delicious on the barbecue, and dine alfresco poolside as the sun sets.

Dating back to 1841, this old Mallorcan farmhouse has bags of charm. Wandering the old courtyards and patios, you get the feeling that you’re staying in the renovated ruins of a historic building. Seating nooks are tucked into crumbling alcoves and alfresco dining is surrounded by old olive barrels and the farm’s stone well. A built-in stone barbecue provides the rustic farm feast and there’s a second dining area beneath a curtained gazebo. Slip into the L-shaped swimming pool and unwind with nothing but fields and hills before you. 

Heading inside, you’ve got several seating spaces for the whole group to spread out – the grand, stone-vaulted lounge and dining area,  rocking chairs in hallways packed with curious artworks (we love the vintage moped), and a tucked-away living room in white and dove-grey. The kitchen still has its 19th-century hearth as a striking feature, but you’ll find all the mod cons and appliances of the 21st-century filling the cupboards too. 

The villa sits in unspoiled countryside with beautiful views of the hills all around, but it’s just a few minutes' drive into the centre of Llucmajor for supermarkets and restaurants. If you fancy a day of culture and history, Palma is just a twenty-minute drive away.

Away from this luxurious villa, there’s plenty nearby to explore. Jump in the car and head to weekly markets at Costitx (a five-minute drive) and a little further, Sineu, to stock up on local produce – with a pitstop to the nearby vineyards to pick up some local wines. 

And when the sea finally beckons, take your pick from the northern, eastern, and southern beaches, which are almost equidistant from the home. Our vote goes to Es Capellans (less than a half-an-hour drive away) – we hear the beach bars perched right on the sands do the best paella around.

The living space is exquisite, with windows to three sides, a comfy sofa and an open plan kitchen and dining space, and although the kitchen isn't huge, the host has managed to pack in everything you could need. But we think you're likely to be eating on the roof terrace most evenings. With its own small preparation kitchen to save you lugging dishes up the stairs, this space is simply beautiful. Eat together at the little table, read on the sun loungers or just take in the views across the rooftops. Given some privacy by a series of screening curtains, it's a superb place to watch the sun go down with a good bottle of wine.

It’s hard to believe that this beautiful home was so recently a dilapidated ruin. The owners, who fell in love with the centuries-old farmhouse and saw its potential, have lovingly restored it. It sits within more than four hectares of land in the Llubi countryside, at the heart of Sa Part Forana, and is one of the most breath-taking holiday homes in the area. 

The history of the home has been respected, so you’ll find heaps of charm and original features – we love the beams and exposed stone walls. In keeping with traditional Mallorcan values, you’ll also find lots of areas for you to gather together as a family, whether it’s at the dining table, around the wood-burning stove, or in the alfresco dining area. After spending your mornings swimming in the refreshingly cool swimming pool, why not fire up the barbecue for a lunchtime feast? Whip up a sumptuous Mediterranean feast in the modern kitchen, and then round up everyone for a lazy meal in one of the numerous indoor and outdoor dining areas. Later you can burn the calories with a game of tennis or basketball, followed by a cooling dip in the pool. In part of the gardens you'll be greeted by the resident flock of sheep – feed them a few stalks of grass and they’ll love you to bits. 

If you manage to tear yourself away from this designer retreat, the village of Alaró has grocery stores, restaurants, and a trendy little gallery hosting exhibitions by local artists. This lovely villa in Mallorca provides a perfectly tranquil and peaceful escape with amazing views of the forest from your private pool and from the balcony terrace. We would love to start each morning here with a breakfast of café con leche and churros as we admire the view in the early sunshine. Then, of course, take a swim in the cooling waters of the pool and dry off as you lounge in the sun. 

The home is located near Binissalem, a Mallorcan village that is well known for its wine production. There are many wine cellars in the area, so why not go for a wine tasting which can be reached by car within nine minutes? In Binissalem you will also find plenty of other amenities including, supermarkets, bars, and restaurants. 

You can play a round of golf at the course that is just a twenty-five-minute drive away or have a competitive game of paintball – a six-minute drive away from your door. If shopping is more your style, head to the Mallorca Fashion Outlet, which can be reached in seventeen minutes by car. 

If you want to explore the island’s culture and heritage, then there is plenty of that not far from this home. An eighteen-minute drive will get you to Alaró Castle, a ruined fortress in the hills that has existed since 902. Drive fifty-two minutes from this home and you can reach, Salt d’es Freu waterfalls to admire nature’s stunning creation, or explore Port de Pollença – a thirty-four-minute drive away. 

For days on the sandy beach, drive twenty-seven minutes to Puerto d’Alcúdia. Or drive twenty-nine minutes to Palma and see the gothic cathedral, old town, wander the sands of the bay of Palma, or even enjoy the nightlife. 

Dine in one of Palma’s many restaurants, or head home in the evening and cook up some delicious tapas in the kitchen or on the barbecue, and dine alfresco beside the pool with a glass of wine made in Binissalem.
