Despite its central location, there’s a large garden with a Jacuzzi and an alfresco dining area with built-in barbecue and shaded areas to escape the Mallorcan sun if you wish. Inside, two bedrooms are situated in the main part of the house, while there’s an annexe on the top floor, accessed via a separate flight of steps, with a twin bedroom, kitchenette and a bathroom. A New Tradition

Stone-clad and splendid, the main house here dates back to the 16th century. It’s an old farmhouse which once housed the olive press for the surrounding groves and you can feel this history in each terracotta-floored room inside. There’s something soothing about the timber beams of the low ceiling in the living room and the hearth-like fireplace is a nod to the old world. An open archway opens up to the dining room and there’s a second sitting room with cute, wooden-shuttered windows. Another stone archway reveals a full-sized snooker table for sociable evenings indoors and the dine-in kitchen is perfect for big, bustling family breakfasts dappled in sunshine.

But it’s the outdoors that really grabbed our attention. 175 acres of land is home to olive groves, a babbling river and orange groves. You can even enjoy a stroll through the evergreen oak woodlands without leaving the privacy of the grounds. The free-form swimming pool is like a huge lagoon on the terrace and we love the stone dining table beneath the twisting vines. Balconies and patios provide places to look out over the grounds, like a monarch surveying your kingdom, and Mallorca’s picturesque mountains flank you on all sides. 

Location-wise, you’re secluded in the countryside, but the honey-hued traditional town of Pollensa is just six kilometres away for restaurants, shops, bars and cafes.

It’s not often you find a Pollença townhouse as stylish and immaculate as this, but then the owner is a celebrated designer. The cobbled streets of Pollença town are outside your door and you’re a 15-minute drive from the pretty coastal resort of Puerto de Pollença. Spend your days sightseeing or soaking up some sun, sea and sand, before an evening of tapas and sangria on Pollença’s bustling square, and a spot of stargazing on the roof terrace.

This home is a rare gift – a townhouse with a private pool in the heart of Pollensa Old Town. It’s a short stroll from the town’s buzzing bars, restaurants and shops, and the hiking and biking trails into the Tramuntana Mountains. The pool is more like a plunge pool than a spot to swim laps, but it’s the perfect tonic to the Mallorcan heat. The ground floor features a modern kitchen with a dining area opening straight to the pool terrace, as well as a separate lounge area perfect for relaxing. On the first floor, a shaded terrace looks out over the rooftops to the mountains.

The show-stopping views of the Mallorcan countryside and the charming Old Town of Pollensa first caught our eye at this villa perched on the hillsides of the Puig Maria mountain. While some of the interiors may be a little dated for some, there’s no denying this place hasn’t got character and wooden shutters in spades. Those travelling with younger children may find those low walls with drops within the villa grounds and ladder effect railings a little hair-raising – little ones will need to be supervised at all times. But you can’t beat its location – with the Old Town of Pollensa within walking distance and the gently sloping sands of Puerto Pollensa just a short spin away.

Puig Maria

Combining traditional Mallorcan interior design with plenty of modern conveniences, this townhouse, a stone’s throw from the heart of Pollença, makes you feel instantly at ease. We loved nothing more than kicking back with our morning coffee on the yellow and white striped sofa before rustling up a Mediterranean-inspired breakfast in the fully-equipped kitchen. 

Clear your agenda and spend an afternoon lounging on the patio – get stuck into a good book or fire up the barbecue and grill produce picked up from the nearby weekly market. Should a siesta be on the cards, the unfussy bedrooms guarantee a peaceful snooze. 

When you do fancy a change of scenery, drive over to Alcúdia for its warren of narrow streets and centuries-old buildings. Enjoy a glass of something refreshing in a curb-side cafe then make a beeline for the white sands and crystal-clear waters of Alcúdia Beach.

A short drive to the northeast places you at Port de Pollença, famous for its picturesque beaches and hiking opportunities – the Boquer Valley walk was one of our favourites. After soaking up the sunshine on Platja Can Cap de Bou, head home for a barbecue on the patio and some drinks by the pool. 

Listen to the cicadas chirp as you enjoy a game of table tennis in the garden then head inside to unwind in the cosy living space – we loved the rustic ceiling beams and exposed stone walls. Make a beeline for the balcony with a nightcap in hand to watch dusk fall over the treetops and when the sky becomes inky black, retreat to the charming bedrooms for a deep and restful slumber.

We do recommend having a car here, but you'll find yourself in fairly close proximity to everything exciting and worthwhile in the area, so you'll be able to fit in everything you want to do. From the moment we pulled up outside and saw the setting, we were in love with this gorgeous stone-built home with its mesmerising views over the Mediterranean. Relax on the comfy L-shaped sofa in the stylish living room and drink them in or head to the mezzanine sitting room. Our favourite spot is the Eames-style rocking chair in the bedroom with its lovely beams. 

Outdoors is beautiful, too, and wonderfully private and secluded, thanks to its warm stone walls. Cook up a Mallorcan feast in the outdoor kitchen and enjoy it on the shaded terrace surrounded by cacti and potted palms. Then laze on the sunbeds in the Balearic sun – that's our kind of holiday. This place is absolutely perfect for families.

The location is great too – the charming town of Port de Pollença, with its restaurants and shops, as well as the fine sandy beach, is just three minutes by car, while Can Cullerassa Beach, used mainly by locals, is under 50 metres away.

In the heart of the countryside and an area of natural beauty, you’ll find this beautiful, elegant villa waiting quietly for you. You are welcomed by shades of pink, cream and terracotta stone, lit with warm amber lighting. The interiors are modern and abstract which will have you enthralled at every turn. Wonderfully social in nature, enjoy the open-plan living areas where you can sink into the deep comfortable sofas and chat about your day. Our favourite spot is the entertainment room, where you can pop some music on the jukebox or simply sit back and relax with one of the many books available. 

Outside is a jungle masterpiece. Spend your days wandering down the quaint paths to enjoy an afternoon of swimming in the private pool. With several exposed and covered terraces, you can relax with a cocktail in hand or dine alfresco with loved ones. The scenery is breathtaking, washed in shades of green. 

While this is a peaceful setting, if you fancy something a little more vibrant, stroll into the town of Pollença or take a short drive to the local beaches – there is plenty in the area to fill your day. When you are ready to retire for the evening, take a long luxurious bubble bath before enjoying a restful sleep in one of the serene bedrooms. Perfectly placed between Pollença Old Town and Port de Pollença, this home ticks three big boxes for us. It’s close to town for shopping and dining out, a mere ten-minute drive from the beach, and it’s a peaceful countryside location to retreat to. Comfortable for eight guests, the outdoor space is the cherry on the cake with mountain views, generous gardens and a private pool to cool off in the heat – ideal, really, as with timed air conditioning, inside the villa may be a little warm during the day.
