This fabulous period townhouse is a real find. Authentic, beautifully styled and packed with character, it's a homage to the city and its history. Set over five floors, including the stunning roof terrace, its green shuttered windows and balconies are in keeping with the area's traditional feel, and the interior, while stylish and comfortable, reminds us of a museum. Whites and terracotta tones make for a timeless feel, while architectural features like the marble staircase and beamed ceilings provide a backdrop to a collection of antiques, vintage artworks and local artefacts – some even displayed in cabinets. 

The living space is exquisite, with windows to three sides, a comfy sofa and an open plan kitchen and dining space, and although the kitchen isn't huge, the host has managed to pack in everything you could need. But we think you're likely to be eating on the roof terrace most evenings. With its own small preparation kitchen to save you lugging dishes up the stairs, this space is simply beautiful. Eat together at the little table, read on the sun loungers or just take in the views across the rooftops. Given some privacy by a series of screening curtains, it's a superb place to watch the sun go down with a good bottle of wine.

Or head to the largest covered market in the city, Olivar Market, for local delicacies and flowers, a fifteen-minute saunter.

Back at this fine, three-storey townhouse, there's a private lift to whisk you up to the top floor, where you'll find the main living accommodation. Head through the stylish living space to the glorious terrace, fire up the barbecue and grill some fresh produce from the market (whizz up some aioli with the blender in the modern kitchen to accompany your feast). Then relax on the comfy outdoor sofa – our favourite spot.

If you love modern art, this home is perfect – it's under a fifteen-minute stroll from Es Baluard Museu d'Art Contemporani de Palma. Once you've admired the hundreds of artworks here, many of which are by artists from the Balearic Islands, head up to its roof terrace for fabulous views over the bay. Or soak in the atmosphere at the historic Plaza Mayor, the heart and soul of Palma Old Town, just a one minute amble from this apartment's quiet street. Other attractions nearby include the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma (La Seu), a six-minute walk away. For a day on the beach, pop over to Can Pere Antoni, which is twenty minutes on foot. Later, if you love browsing a local market like us, there are a couple within a five-minute amble. Olivar Market has lots of local delicacies, or pick up some flowers from the stalls on Passeig de la Rambla and take them back home.

Housed in a beautiful 18th-century mansion, this abode is lovely and light, thanks to French doors that open up to a Juliet balcony. We love the views of the sun-bleached ochre-coloured facades opposite with their jade window shutters. Take the weight off your feet after all that sightseeing and relax on the cream sofa for a while. Later, if you don't fancy eating out, whip up some frito Mallorquin for dinner in the modern kitchen with ingredients from the market, and then enjoy it at your dining table. Although this apartment's located in an eighteenth-century mansion in Palma's Old Town, the interior is delightfully modern. The minimalist kitchen is dominated by sleek finishes, while the living room's stark white walls and wooden floorboards look similarly smart.

That's not to say it's completely anonymous, though. There are some Asian influences in the decorations, particularly the elephant statue and the orange patterned rug. We're also big fans of the intricate mosaic tiling in the bathroom too, also in sunset tones.

When you want a breath of fresh air, simply step out onto the home's balcony and gaze out onto the street below. Plaça Major sits just one minute's walk away and Museu Fundació Joan March is another sixty seconds beyond that. The city's gothic cathedral only takes six minutes to reach on foot, too.
