Restaurants, shops, and bars are a bit further – you'll need to hop in the car, but they're just a short drive away. It's on the first floor, so prepare to climb some stairs, and since it's part of an apartment complex, you're likely to hear and see your neighbours. For a family getaway in Mallorca, it's a good choice.

This traditional villa sits on the edge of sleepy S’Horta where it provides a great location for a family getaway. From here, you can walk to the nearby supermarket and restaurants, plus it’s just a five-minute drive to the beautiful beaches of Cala D’Or. Your host can organise a range of extras for little ones and while the rooms are basic, we think you’ll be spending most of your time in the swimming pool or lounging on the terrace.

It’s also just a short drive to Portocolom, with the island’s beautiful beaches also within easy reach. The rustic interiors won't appeal to everyone – in particular, the bathrooms are somewhat dated – but the single-level layout will suit guests who struggle with stairs.

This breathtakingly beautiful villa is the perfect place to call home during a trip to the south of Mallorca. Just a few minutes away from the water's edge, in the town of Cala d'Or, it's ideal for groups of friends or families who want to embrace island life. 

The traditional white exterior gives way to a gorgeous, tranquil living space. With plenty of comfy sofas and a collection of local artworks, it's a true sanctuary where you can kick back and relax. Outside, there's a grassy area where the kids can play, and a sparkling swimming pool that invites you to take a refreshing dip after a sunbathing session. When you get hungry you can fire up the grill, and serve up a delicious feast outside on the patio as the sun goes down. 

A five-minute walk will bring you to Playa Cala Gran, a sandy cove where you can snorkel or even rent a little paddle boat. Nature lovers can visit Parc natural de Mondragó to hike through the gorgeous landscapes and even do some birdwatching. And, if a dose of culture is more your kind of thing, then the capital city of Palma is under an hour away, where you'll find plenty of fascinating history.

This sun-soaked villa is a comfortable base from which to discover the east coast of Mallorca. The place is appointed with everything you’ll need to get stuck into local living and while the decor here is a little inconsistent, we think it adds a homely feel. Outside, there’s a swimming pool for keeping cool and table tennis to keep the big and little kids entertained. Location-wise, you’re a short drive from both the heart of Portocolom and Marçal Beach.

Peace & Pines

With some homes it's hard to know where to start, but with this place in Cala d'Or there's a very obvious beginning point. The beach. Set so close to the gorgeous Cala Petita that all you have to do is stroll down the garden path and step out of the gate to feel the warm sand between toes, it overlooks this pretty little inlet – the crystal-clear water constantly tempting you from below. With one of the best beach views we've seen, this beautiful spot is one of our favourites. 

Screened from its neighbours by lush hedges and fragrant pine trees, you'll feel tucked away here, with a fabulous view from the private terrace. The home itself is as pretty as a picture, with green shutters and a traditional covered porch. Inside, high ceilings, all-white walls and plenty of curves and arches provide the backdrop, while comfy, stylish furnishings and nautical artwork make for a homey feel. The living room is dominated by a gorgeous fireplace and there's a covered dining space with huge doors opening to the sunny terrace. Cooking at home will be a pleasure in the well kitted-out kitchen, but it's just a few minutes' walk to the nearby shops and restaurants.

Perfect for a family or a great choice for a multigenerational stay, two rooms are well suited to children, with enough bathrooms to prevent any queues for the shower. And if you're the kind of person who likes to begin the day with a swim, nothing could be more invigorating than a sea dip before breakfast.

With a jacuzzi at one end and a shallow area for kids to splash around in at the other, this villa’s pool is where we suspect you'll be spending most of your time. Set on a huge private estate amid the rolling hills of Vall de s'Horta, the setting may be rural but the feel here is sophisticated and luxurious. 

Spend the morning lounging by the pool, savouring those unbelievable views, and in the afternoon head to the terrace for an alfresco lunch – all those citrus trees, ancient olive orchards and almond groves serve as a reminder of the excellent produce at your fingertips. If you’re feeling active, there are plenty of walking paths nearby, lined with wildflowers and herbs. 

Here you'll be just a ten-minute drive from the beautiful beach at Portocolom. After a day of island adventures, retreat inside, where exposed stone, dark wood furnishings and a neutral colour palette blend perfectly with the natural surroundings.

Located on a quiet residential street, this home is perfectly located to reach the amenities including shops and restaurants in Cala D’Or’s centre. Plus, with two sandy beaches both reachable within just seven minutes on foot, you can spend your days splashing in the waves, building sandcastles, or simply relaxing as you enjoy the views and soothing soundscape. 

Start your mornings with a glass of jugo de naranja on the sun-bathed balcony as you admire the incredible views stretching out to the ocean. Then head to the beach or spend leisurely hours lounging in the sunshine before cooling off in the waters of your private swimming pool. When you need a moment of shade, why not sit back with a good book on the comfortable outdoor seating under the shaded pergola?

In the evening, sliding doors connect the kitchen to a small porch with a dining table creating the perfect area to enjoy a meal of Spanish tapas. There’s a private pool surrounded by Mediterranean plants or enjoy an alfresco meal on one of the covered terraces. The décor inside is on the traditional side, but we love that all of the bedrooms open out onto the terrace or balcony. When you are ready to explore the area, you’ll find an array of restaurants, bars and shops in Portocolom, as well as beaches such as Cala Marcal.

My Rainbow World

Situated just a ten-minute walk from the centre of Porto Cristo, this apartment is in an excellent location which offers the tranquillity of being near the edge of the forest but also the convenience of plenty of local amenities including a supermarket, restaurants, bars, and even a bakery – perfect for buying fresh breakfast pastries. Start your mornings here with a café con leche at the kitchen’s breakfast bar or take your fresh jugo de naranja outside and enjoy it in comfort on the pergola-shaded terrace. 

Sandy beaches are also close by to this home and can be reached in as little as fifteen minutes on foot. So why not spend several hours basking in the sunshine as you recline on the soft sands and listen to the soothing sounds of ocean waves?
