This south-facing rooftop apartment is a real suntrap. Not only is the kitchen illuminated throughout the day, but all the bedrooms are blessed with large external windows too. And if there's one thing you can never have too much of in a home, it's light. We're in love with the kitchen and terrace, with views across the city and plenty of outdoor seating for everyone to enjoy breakfast in the sunshine. There's also a barbecue out here for alfresco summer evenings grilling dinner as the neighbourhood's residents return from work and things spring to life. While it might not be the most centrally located, the upmarket residential neighbourhood of Sarría offers a peaceful break from the bedlam of central Barcelona. Packed with posh homes, shops and restaurants, it was an independent town until 1921, when the city engulfed it. High ceilings and tall windows mean that the interior feels bright and airy, but there's also a Juliet balcony if you want to feel the breeze on your face at any point. There's a lot to like about the design too, with wooden furnishings and surfaces going nicely with the cool grey tiles and eclectic selection of objets d'art. Just looking at it, you wouldn’t expect Pulpo Gallego to be on the ground floor. It has most of the trappings of a loft, and wouldn’t feel too out of place in Williamsburg or Greenpoint. Maite’s done a lovely job setting it up. It’s been renovated in the past year or so, and even though it has a small and unusually shaped footprint, it easily feels large enough. You also have the benefit of being in Eixample, so getting around the city, either on foot or by public transport, is very simple.

Neat and practical, this nifty studio is situated in the heart of Eixample. Its terrace looks out at a 19th-century water tower, which might not be one of the city’s most iconic landmarks but serves as a nice backdrop to a cosy cocktail evening. If you fancy a change of scenery, though, you’re within easy reach of Gaudí’s Casa Batlló, as well as Plaça de Catalunya where you’ll find plenty of shops and cafés to while away the day. And while the kitchen’s slightly limited, this home is surrounded by tonnes of bustling bars and restaurants, so you won’t have to venture far for a bite of something delicious to eat.

You're in for a treat with a stay at this contemporary apartment perched along a handsome leafy avenue of the well-heeled Eixample district. Home to Gaudí's architectural gems, haute couture shops, and Michelin star restaurants, they call this neck of the woods Quadrat d'Or (Golden Square) for a good reason.

Back at home, the pristine, uncluttered interiors will appeal to all you minimalists out there. Flooded with natural daylight thanks to those floor-to-ceiling Juliet balcony windows, it feels like a breath of fresh air to return to after a day soaking up all that Gaudi extravagance in the streets below.

Drop your bags in the spacious hallway, grab a glass of something crisp (the complimentary chilled wine will help with that), then fling the balcony doors open wide to watch the grand avenue of Gran Via bustle below. We like the separate kitchen, which is ready and waiting to help with your culinary efforts – although, with Michelin-starred restaurants and cosy bistros nearby, we’re sure that meals out sampling authentic Spanish cuisine will be high on the agenda.

This elegant apartment is in the centre of Barcelona, 100 metres from Las Ramblas and a short walk from Plaza de Catalunya. Bars, restaurants and shops are all on your doorstep. Apart from a full kitchen and delightful dining room inside, there’s a private terrace for evening cocktails outside. In the living room, you’ve got a dedicated laptop desk for those that need to work remotely. Despite the central location, it’s pretty quiet as the rooms look out over the terrace rather than the busy street.

Or, for a slice of something more authentic, stop by La Boqueria Market (twenty-two minutes on foot), the city's most flamboyant and bustling market, for a market-fresh snack.

When it's time to escape the bustle for a while, the beach for an afternoon of lounging around on the golden sand and sipping a glass of Sangria is never far away. Or head back home to this fresh and inviting city hideaway.

Housed in a grand art nouveau apartment building typical of the city, you can tell a designer has been working their décor wizardry inside this home. You're just a short walk from the lively Rambla de Cataluña, filled with shops, restaurants and bars, while the cultural landmarks of Gaudí's Casa Batlló and Casa Milà are fifteen minutes away on foot. The bedrooms vary in size and there's limited space on the terrace, but the home is bright and comfortable. If we could choose one street out of the thousands in Barcelona to lay our hats for a stay in the city, it would always be the leafy, pedestrianised Carrer d'Enric Granado of the L'Eixample district. And luckily for you, it's the setting of this oh-so-elegant apartment. Brimming with highly-brunchable cafes, ice-cream parlours, and galleries and within walking distance of the city's must-see sights, you couldn't dream up a better location. 

Inside, vaulted ceilings dating way back to the 1800s bring all the wow factor – while a glorious mishmash of heirloom-worthy antiques and curated artwork add layers of interest and authenticity. Guests rave about the careful attention to detail here and we couldn't agree more. There's a dedicated desk area to keep on top of emails, a slick kitchen, and two fully modernised bathrooms, complete with rainfall showers to kick start your day.

But the clincher for us has to be that lavish living room with panoramic views of the city from the Juliette balcony. Grab yourself a freshly brewed coffee and peer out over the balcony to watch city life awaken below along its leafy avenue – it's everything you imagined it would be.

Enrique's Place

This wonderful central location places you in the heart of Passeig de Gràcia, surrounded by tapas bars, authentic restaurants and trendy shops. You’re also a short stroll from the many highlights of Barcelona, from Gaudí's famous Casa Batlló and Casa Milà to the Sagrada Familia and bustling Plaça de Catalunya. The apartment itself is designed with functionality in mind and offers some fabulous perks. Enjoy a complementary Catalan breakfast in the cafe downstairs, all the benefits of a 5-star hotel (doorman, lobby, on-site parking), and the shared rooftop terrace with plenty of outdoor dining space for your group. 

La Vida Llega

This apartment is on one of Barcelona's most fashionable boulevards, close to Las Ramblas and the late-night tapas bars of the Gothic Quarter. Passeig de Gràcia with its shops, restaurants and bars, is just a five-minute walk away. There’s a sense of old-world grandeur inside thanks to chandeliers and corniced ceilings, in keeping with the historic building. The apartment is family-sized, but might feel cramped at capacity with three in one bedroom and two on the sofa bed in the living room. Balconies off the living room and one of the bedrooms face Rambla Catalunya – perfect for people-watching.

The Eliza

Perched on the bustling Passeig de Gràcia, this apartment is just across the street from Gaudí's famous Casa Battló. You're so close that you can spot the fantastical architecture from the balcony – there may be nowhere to sit, but you can't beat the views. The home consists of two separate apartments connected by a hallway. That means you'll have two kitchens, two living areas, and double the amount of space. Factor in the central location – this pad is within walking distance of many landmarks, shops, and restaurants – and you can see why it caught our eye.

Eyes on Batlló

Just a few blocks from Plaza de España and in walking distance of both Old Town and Barcelona's port, it's no exaggeration to say this two-storey home puts you in the centre of the action. We were fond of the modern interior, pleasingly combing with the traditional vaulted ceilings. The shaded terrace is a particularly nice touch, allowing you to grab some fresh air while you relax at home. When it's time to head out, you'll find museums and shopping centres practically on your doorstep.

Antique Mosaic

Having recently undergone a renovation, this Gràcia apartment is awash with earthy colours, natural materials and leafy houseplants. It could be said that the design isn't so much led by Catalan influences as by North African style – whatever the inspiration, it's undeniably easy on the eye.

Not only that, but it's somewhere in which you'll quickly feel at home. The sleek white kitchen is plenty big enough for whipping up family-sized feasts, while there are a couple of spots in which to do nothing more strenuous than relax and take it easy – the hammock chair is sure to be a firm favourite among some guests, while the balcony allows you to get a burst of fresh air during warm afternoons.

That's not if you're already out and about exploring the cultural riches of Barcelona. One of the city's must-see sights – La Sagrada Familia – is less than a quarter of an hour's walk away, while you can also get to Barceloneta Beach in around half an hour on public transport.
