We're not sure if BBC sent you here, but if you want a closer look at Mulberry House's kitchen, look no further than Rick Stein’s 'Secret France' featuring the smiley host making a delicious meal here — and were absolutely expect your to try to recreate it! This is a typical French hilltop chateau, but this doesn't mean it's ordinary. The casually welcoming atmosphere is a product of modern furniture and restored period features, the kitchen being the best example of this harmony. Still, we expect you to spend much more time around this home than in it. With the huge pool that's perfect for a morning splash and the futuristic loungers around it, a gorgeous dining spot under the pergola, and a breezy back garden, there are plenty of spots to socialise or reflect in peace. When you stay at this apartment in La Ciotat, you’ll be just steps away from the Sunday market. It’s also under a five-minute stroll to the Old Port and fifteen minutes from La Ciotat’s beaches. The home itself has been renovated by an architect and includes a large living-dining room with a sofa bed, which guests five and six will be sleeping on. One thing to note is that there's air conditioning in the living space and the main bedroom only. There is also a children's bedroom with a bunk bed off the main bedroom, so this place is ideal for families.

This beautiful village house is the perfect place to enjoy a holiday in the Luberon region of Provence. The property is located on a hillside on the edge of Gordes, one of France's classified 'Plus Beaux Villages'. The Provençal valley views from the terraced grounds are incredible.

The house has been decorated with refined style and there's an authentic ambience across its elegant lounge, dining room and perfectly equipped kitchen with doors sliding open to the al-fresco dining terrace. Modern additions include air-conditioning throughout, a Sonos music system and Smart TVs in its mezzanine lounge and two of the three bedrooms.

Sleeping up to six guests, the bedrooms are gorgeous, one with a king-size double bed, wood-beamed ceiling and romantic rolltop bath, another with a queen-size double, sofa and en suite shower room and the third en suite with twin beds and lovely views through its little windows. 

Outside, the vistas of Provence will take your breath away whether you are enjoying a glass of Luberon AOC wine on the upper terrace or peacefully reading on the outdoor sofa beneath the poolside pergola. The swimming pool is superb for warm summer days when you don't wish to venture too far. We love the rustic charm of the terraced grounds with old stone steps, pretty pathways and swathes of summer colour.

If you're looking for a French villa with true character, Here Comes The Sun is a great option. With typical rustic features that include exposed brick and beam contrasting the modern features, this home is a great place to help you relax and enjoy the gorgeous surroundings. Wake up with a nice cup of coffee on the balcony, then pick up your local delivery of baked goods that can be brought right to your front door, then set up a little breakfast for the rest. If you're feeling rather adventurous, hike all the way to Pont du Gard or take the car if you want see as much as you can in a single day. When you're back, go for a relaxing swim in the pool and enjoy a nice glass of locally produced wine, then maybe visit the nearby town of Uzès and explore the local restaurants. The wider area is filled with stunning gold courses and plenty of activities, but there's absolutely no rule that says you can't just stay in your superbly cosy holiday residence and curl up with a good book.

Or squeeze in a round of golf at the famous Frégate golf course, with its breathtaking views over the island of Embiez. Whatever you choose to do, it seems impossible not to relax here.

While plenty of period features remain, the interior is mostly furnished with high-end minimalist pieces that create a delightful hybrid atmosphere. Still, we don't expect you to be spending most of your time admiring the furniture — the outdoor parts of this home are far more exciting than the insides. From the alfresco spots and loungers scattered around the garden to the huge swimming pool that's perfect for  a morning swim, Garden Escape does its name justice. When you're ready to venture a little farther, the charming town of St-Remy where Van Gogh painted the famous 'Starry Night' is only a short walk away, but since you'll be staying in the heart of Provence, every road will take you to a beautiful market town. Bring back a nice bottle of wine and enjoy watching the sunset from the garden. Retreat to the breezy living room for a movie night, and prepare for another day of relaxation.

Why not book for a private chef to come and give you French cooking lessons? You'll also find that the local area allows guests to experience French culture at its finest. Mornings are for market visits here, so head on down into the local village, just a three-minute walk away where you'll find a lady named Patricia who sells fresh fruit and vegetables every Monday and Wednesday morning in the central square, Place de la Fontaine. Better still, visit on a Saturday as this is the main market day for the villagers to stock up on fresh meat, fish, cheese, truffles, wine and flowers. It's safe to say that such a warm and friendly atmosphere is hard to come by in France, if you're not in a rural village like this one.
