This is the kind of holiday home that dreams are made of. This magnificent villa was a hotel in days gone by, hosting the likes of Virginia Woolf and Winston Churchill. Now it’s a spectacular holiday home that sits on a cliff, looking over the French Riviera. 

Tucked away within the Calanques National Park, this home feels like an oasis. The sweeping views out to sea and the verdant surroundings make it feel as though it’s a million miles from the rest of the world. In reality, it’s just a twenty-one-minute walk from the village of Cassis – you can wake up in paradise and be eating croissants at a cafe by the port in under thirty minutes. 

It really does feel paradisiacal. A huge terrace looks out over the water and to the small beach below – walking seven minutes down a private path will see you arrive at Plage de l’Arène. The heated swimming pool shares the same gorgeous Riviera view, which makes sunset swims all the more enchanting. Wherever you choose to watch the sunsets, you’re in for a marvellous show. We’d pop open a bottle of bubbly and take a seat on the terrace. As the sun sinks lower, the sky transforms into pastel-hued art. You’ll never want to leave.

The home itself has been renovated by an architect and includes a large living-dining room with a sofa bed, which guests five and six will be sleeping on. One thing to note is that there's air conditioning in the living space and the main bedroom only. There is also a children's bedroom with a bunk bed off the main bedroom, so this place is ideal for families.

You'll find this gorgeous family-size cottage, surrounded by unspoilt countryside, at the foot of the typical Provençal village of Ventabren, is just about as sweet as it gets. We're not sure if BBC sent you here, but if you want a closer look at Mulberry House's kitchen, look no further than Rick Stein’s 'Secret France' featuring the smiley host making a delicious meal here — and were absolutely expect your to try to recreate it! This is a typical French hilltop chateau, but this doesn't mean it's ordinary. The casually welcoming atmosphere is a product of modern furniture and restored period features, the kitchen being the best example of this harmony. Still, we expect you to spend much more time around this home than in it. With the huge pool that's perfect for a morning splash and the futuristic loungers around it, a gorgeous dining spot under the pergola, and a breezy back garden, there are plenty of spots to socialise or reflect in peace. The host team that looks after this home is always available to help and organise those extra touches that will make your stay even more special. The house has been decorated with refined style and there's an authentic ambience across its elegant lounge, dining room and perfectly equipped kitchen with doors sliding open to the al-fresco dining terrace. Modern additions include air-conditioning throughout, a Sonos music system and Smart TVs in its mezzanine lounge and two of the three bedrooms.

Sleeping up to six guests, the bedrooms are gorgeous, one with a king-size double bed, wood-beamed ceiling and romantic rolltop bath, another with a queen-size double, sofa and en suite shower room and the third en suite with twin beds and lovely views through its little windows. 

Outside, the vistas of Provence will take your breath away whether you are enjoying a glass of Luberon AOC wine on the upper terrace or peacefully reading on the outdoor sofa beneath the poolside pergola. The swimming pool is superb for warm summer days when you don't wish to venture too far. We love the rustic charm of the terraced grounds with old stone steps, pretty pathways and swathes of summer colour.

Or squeeze in a round of golf at the famous Frégate golf course, with its breathtaking views over the island of Embiez. Whatever you choose to do, it seems impossible not to relax here.
