The grounds are full of magical wonders perfect to spark the imagination of young children. Little ones can splash about in the safety of the children's pool, which is attached to the main saltwater swimming pool. The house is also stocked with toys and games ready for all the family to play with. The location is close to the towns of Saintes, Cognac and Taillebourg where you can pick up local produce and wine to bring back and devour at the poolside cabana. 

The Watermill Wheel

Set within extensive grounds, this century-old chateau has been immaculately restored by its committed owner. Out back, a raised terrace makes the most of the uninterrupted vineyard vistas, while the pool is perfect for topping up your tan. You won’t be short of space inside, either – there are four floors to explore here. And when it comes to stocking up on essentials, the Gironde estuary town of Saint-Christoly-Médoc is nearby, along with some of the area’s best-known winemaking chateaux.

The Valley of Sunshine 

This newly renovated apartment in central Bordeaux, home to largest urban World Heritage Site, is perfect for couples and small families. Cute and quirky, this fabulous French home features a lovely, light filled open plan kitchen cum dining cum living room characterised by pops of red, contrasting coloured wall paper.  You’ll love waking up in your idiosyncratically decorated room for two, and delighting in a rain shower before breakfast in the white tiled kitchen. Read, relax or watch the world go by from the sofa next to the window while making a plan for the day. This home’s superb location in the semi-pedestrian Saint-Pierre district, the city’s historic heart, means you’ll be wandering the cobbled streets and stumbling across picturesque squares in no time. 

A stone’s throw from the best Bordeaux has to offer by way of museums and cultural heritage sites as well as restaurants and bars, why not plot a course through the Place du Parlement, the Place du Palais or the Place de la Bourse, before visiting CAPC, the musée d'art contemporain, Saint-André Cathedral, and the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux? You won’t want to miss out on sampling both Bordelais premiers crus and cuisine and vibrant Saint-Pierre hosts a sassy mix of traditional French kitchens, experimental neobistros, creative fusion restaurants, food trucks and barista-run coffee shops, a gastronomic scene that is sure to impress even the most discerning of bon vivants.


Paper, Prints & Pops of Colour

Tucked away in the Cote de Bourg area just north of Bordeaux, this fairytale 19th-century chartreuse overlooks beautiful vineyards and the rolling landscape beyond. The seclusion makes this a tranquil getaway – especially when swimming in the private pool or enjoying the ample seating outside – but with this being an active vineyard, it's also a unique way to experience the French countryside. The interior, all rustic rafters and palatial furnishings, might not be everyone's cup of tea, but there's plenty of space and charm here. It is worth noting that there are only three bathrooms to share between fourteen guests. The country house is bold and full of character, and the pool table is a nice touch too.

Comte de Montagny

Soak up the rustic charm of this beautiful home, filled with character and all the luxuries you might want from a stay in France. Go for a float in the private pool or get some remote work done at the dedicated desk. Who says you can't be productive on holiday? The garden is perfect for sitting out under the trees with a drink, and the terrace is perfect for alfresco dining. Get a good night's sleep in the round bed upstairs, and relax in one of many shaded and sun-kissed spots outside.

Enjoy picnics by the banks of the Dordogne and strolls through the markets of Périgord. If you're looking for somewhere to eat, there are plenty of options a short drive away, whatever you're craving. Enjoy hours of exploration whether you're a hiker, a cyclist, or even a sailor. In the summer months, rent a kayak or canoe and traverse the Dordogne river. In the evening, the plush sofas of the two living areas make for cosy places to gather and discuss a busy day.

Bliss by the Pool

It's not every day you find a place with two outdoor spaces in the heart of a city. This gem of a home is putting an end to the idea that being in the city centre automatically means forfeiting space. Here, location, style, comfort, and luxury have beautifully been combined to bring you a showstopper. 

There's a lot to love here, from the contemporary interior to the fantastic location, but the outdoor space takes the cake. There's something wonderful about waking up in the morning and stepping straight outside to feel the sun on your face, and here, you get that small but special treat from each bedroom. Invigorating fresh coffees in the sun are the perfect way to start the day. Whether you're on the rooftop terrace or the patio, you'll feel a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Bordeaux city centre, despite being close to all the action.

Exploring Bordeaux comes easy here. You're just a five-minute walk from the tram, which takes you all across the city. Or, you can take to the wine metropolis on foot – you're just 1.5km away from the historic centre. There, you can take a walk along the famous promenade which is lined by restaurants and bars, discover the city's museums, and spot some notable sights, like the 11th-century Bordeaux Cathedral. 

However you spend your day, you'll love coming home to your bright, welcoming home. Take the spiral stairs up to the rooftop terrace, armed with a bottle of local wine, to watch the sky envelop into hues of reds and oranges at dusk. When dinner rolls around, your kitchen is perfectly equipped for whipping up meals at home. But if you don't feel like cooking, there are several brilliant restaurants nearby, ready to welcome you. 

City Tropicale

Sitting within twenty-five acres of verdant grounds in the Vienne region, the manicured lawns and towering turrets of this mighty nineteenth-century chateau look like a real fairytale fantasy.

This impression doesn't change when you go behind the front door. There's a grand total of four reception rooms on the ground floor, all treated to high ceilings, framed artwork and antique furnishings. The dining room is similarly grand, as is the hallway complete with a grand piano.

Out among the vast grounds, there are rose gardens and shady hideaways to discover, as well as a large swimming pool, loungers and a barbecue for when guests have worked up a hunger.

The local area is perfectly peaceful as it is, but there are plenty of local attractions nearby, too. Lencloître is the nearest town, only six minutes' drive away, and has a few restaurants and shops with which to get acquainted. There are also Roman ruins, Abbeys and even larger chateaux to explore in the surrounding Loire Valley, too.

Rural Daydreams

This 18th-century farmhouse sits in La Gripperie Saint Symphorien, a small Charente-Maritime village. Renovated with natural materials like hemp, lime and clay, it blends historic charm with modern comfort. The main space has a cathedral-style living room and kitchen, plus a mezzanine bedroom for kids and a ground-floor bedroom. You'll have access to a shared pool and a natural pond, as well as your own private terrace. From April to October, you can even pick as many vegetables as you want from the farm’s organic garden. Shops and restaurants are a short walk, but a car is useful for exploring. With Rochefort, Marennes, and Oléron twenty minutes away, plus Côte Sauvage's beaches just half an hour, it's worth it.

Harvest Retreat

Nestled away deep within vineyard country between the Garonne and Dordogne, Monségur is a quintessential bastide town full of medieval architecture and this impressive home is a suitably characterful place to stay if you're planning a visit.

It's a more recent addition to the locale than many of the nearby buildings, but there are still a few centuries of heritage in the walls and this sense of history has been expertly retained during a recent renovation, which prioritised traditional methods and materials. Take a wander throughout the ground floor and you'll spot antique furnishings, period features and elegant decorations evocative of years gone by. At the same time, guests are also treated to all of the amenities to be expected in the 21st century – we're talking sleek kitchens and bathrooms, plus plenty of tech and gizmos.

We've been saving the best until last, however. Out in the enclosed garden, it's pretty clear to see where long summer afternoons will be spent – flitting between the cooling waters of the swimming pool and the surrounding loungers. Of course, if the weather's on your side during your stay, there are plenty of wineries, abbeys and walking routes to explore in the surrounding Entre-Deux-Mers region, as well. The city of Bordeaux only takes an hour to reach by car, too.

Words of Wisdom

This fully restored castle in the Dordogne manages to merge the modern with the ancient. The stone foundations may date back as early as the 5th-century, but the interior is dotted with modern art and all the little luxuries of modern life. There's over 15 hectares of land to explore, with a swimming pool, terraces, and a barbecue area for al fresco dining. The castle backs on to the vineyards of Bergerac, so you're never too far from a glass of locally produced wine. Should the weather turn, the games room with a billiards table and library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves provide quality indoor entertainment.

Just a three-minute walk from the Plage d'Arcachon beach, this modern apartment boasts sparkling sea views over the red rooftops. On your doorstep, you'll discover the lovely Les Halles market, where you can pick up fresh fruit and local produce. Or, why not try your luck at the seafront Casino d'Arcachon? With lots of exciting boat trips at hand, there is something for everyone to enjoy at this dreamy holiday destination.

From your Juliet balcony, you'll want to let the breeze rush through the bedroom as you overlook the beautiful bay, only 400 metres away. Each morning, indulge your sweet tooth at this sleek dining table and opt for pain au chocolat. When it's time to explore, we think that this place promises you the perfect base, whether you're staying here on a solo adventure or a romantic getaway. Later, come back to this serene space and soak your feet in the bathtub, then pour yourself a glass of French wine as you watch an idyllic sunset.
