Wander back inside, and this home gives a very distinct nod to its surroundings. Pops of teal and blue are peppered throughout this apartment, mirroring the tones of the ocean outside, and with coastal decor adorning the walls and shelves. It’s compact but comfortable with that little touch of class, making it the ideal base for exploring the local area. 

Locally, you may want to visit the old town of Ajaccio or perhaps you long to feel the sand between your toes – if so, you’re in luck, as Porticcio beach is just a short four-minute drive away. After a day of adventure, return home, pour yourself a glass of wine, and head onto your terrace where you can snuggle up on the sofa. Our favourite bit is the expansive roof terrace, the ideal place to gather for soaking up the Corsican sunshine. The well-shaded dining area has its own barbecue so you can sit down to eat alfresco at lunchtime. There’s also a relaxing chill-out area, with wicker furniture and beanbags overlooking the Mediterranean sea below. If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

Now that's what we call a view. Whether you're relaxing on the balcony, swimming in the pool or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the waves rolling in the sea. Although bed linen and towels are an additional cost, each bedroom is comfortable and cosy – but, as there's only space for eight around the table, we think ten guests will be a squeeze. Location-wise, Costa Paradiso is yours to discover. Li Cossi beach is less than a five-minute drive, with restaurants, bars and seasonal shops also within striking distance.

The view is everything here. This modern villa stands in Portobello di Gallura, just 800 metres from Baia dell’Amore beach, and boasts glorious views of the coast. From here you can explore the area's hidden coves and peaceful beaches on foot, and spend your evenings drinking in the spectacular sea sunsets. You’ll have a Jacuzzi to unwind in but no pool, so this home will really only appeal to those who enjoy sea swimming and the feel of sand underfoot. The twin rooms are ideal for children. Bedding and towels aren’t included in the price but can be provided for an additional fee.

With an advantageous hillside position giving way to panoramic views of Palombaggia Bay, this home is all about tranquillity. You'll find a private swimming pool and alfresco dining table all positioned towards the scenery. Personally, we like the little observation nook. Two chairs create the perfect opportunity for a romantic sunset moment. Though the interior doesn't quite hold a candle to the surroundings, it's still comfortable. There's also more than enough room for a family or group of friends. As for location, beach lovers can rejoice knowing they're only 800 meters from Palombaggia Beach.

The view from this villa is simply stunning. From every angle in the garden, your eye is drawn to the Gulf of Pevero, and to the lush scenery of this Emerald Coast home. The private infinity pool and outdoor lounge are undoubtedly the stars of the show here, but the interior has plenty of appeal too. Kids will love the cinema area, and the gym is handy too. The fine white sand and turquoise waters of Porto Paglia beach are just a short distance away. You’ll need to pay extra for towels and bed linen. 

The Palazzo Retreat

If you want to get some diving done while you’re in Sardinia, this could be the perfect base for you. This villa is in Santa Teresa di Gallura, just 450 metres from Baia Santa Reparata, a beach known for its colourful seabeds. You can also easily hop on a boat trip to explore La Maddalena Archipelago. When you’re on terra firma, you’ll enjoy the outside space here – the private pool and shaded terrace are where we’d be spending most of our time. Some of the decor is a little dated, but there’s also plenty of charm here – you’ll need to pay for bedding and towels though.

Lounge by the pool surrounded by verdant trees and listen to the bird song when you stay at this villa in the hamlet Trinité de Porto-Vecchio. We adore the views over the Corsican countryside from the balcony (one of two). Have a game of boules, then fire up the barbecue for lunch or head to the modern kitchen and whip up some aziminu (Corsican bouillabaisse). There are more of those fabulous vistas from inside too. The open plan living space, with its wood floors, white-washed walls, and a log burner, is perfect for entertaining. This place is ideal for a family or group of friends.

This home is just 2 kilometres from the sea, 5 kilometres from Cala Rossa beach and 4 kilometres from Porto-Vecchio, with its narrow streets lined with shops, bars and restaurants.

Whether you’re a family or a group of friends, this villa provides a comfortable base from which to explore Sardinia’s northwest coast. While Luculumbu Beach is within walking distance, there’s not much else to do in the surrounding area, so a car is a must here. The home itself is well-appointed and the views of the Mediterranean Sea from the swimming pool speak for themselves. Just a heads up, bed linens and towels are an additional extra and will need to be booked before your arrival.

In our opinion, a trip to Corsica is always a good idea. The scenery is exquisite, the food a marvel, and the beaches are something from a dream. We love this pretty stone house in the seaside resort of Moriani Plage – it’s a splendid base for a family or a group of friends. 

The house is simple and bright, with a neutral colour scheme that lends itself to relaxation. There’s plenty of room for everyone to gather together, whether it’s around the piano in the living room or in the dining room. When the sun is shining, you’ll want to be outside to enjoy every last second of it. Happily, there’s a wonderful garden here. Little ones will love playing on the lawn, while grown-ups might prefer sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine. There’s a hammock to doze in, and a barbecue for alfresco meals – we’d be buying some fresh seafood for sure. 

This home is in a quiet residential area so you’ll really be able to relax and unwind. That’s not to say that it’s a sleepy spot though – Padullela Park is across from the house, with its tennis courts and play area. Moriani Beach is a seven-minute walk from the house, and you can stroll for a gelato a couple of minutes away. If you feel like being a bit more active, you might try your hand at jet skiing or sailing. Hikers will love exploring the Costa Verde trails. There’s something for everyone here.

In the rugged south of Corsica, near Bonifacio, sits this chalet-like retreat in the hills. Wood-clad outside, it blends in with the rolling scenery, where ancient woodlands cover the hills like a deep green blanket. It’s a ten-minute drive into Bonifacio, an ancient port town with a buzzing marina and medieval hilltop citadel. The villa itself is set in field-like lawns where a shady olive grove invites you for an afternoon stroll. The turquoise swimming pool sits pride of place on the deck and is lined with loungers.
